It took 21 hours for the American negotiators in Islamabad to confirm what we’ve known about the regime in Iran for the last 47 years. The IRGC won’t ever negotiate in good faith.
And this time, even J.D. Vance had enough. In a presser from Islamabad, the Vice President announced he would withdraw from talks after the Iranian regime refused to come off of their list of demands. Vance told reporters that he left our “best offer” on the table and said it would be up to Iran to figure it out. As Hugh Hewitt commented on X, it’s a replay of the Reykjavik conference between Ronald Reagan

"Monty Python" actor John Cleese warned this week that the world has failed to live up to the ideal of saying "Black lives matter" when it ignores anti-Christian terrorism in Nigeria. Numerous news sources around the world, including The Associated Press, reported that according to local military and officials, at least 26 people were killed in three separate Easter attacks in northern Nigeria. This has caused multiple prominent commentators to not only criticize the terrorism rife in the region, but the silence of the international community that they argue is politically-motivated. "It looks rather as though Black Lives Don't Matter," Cleese lamented

A federal appeals court said Saturday that President Donald Trump can move ahead for another week with construction of a massive new White House ballroom while judges consider the project.
The 2-1 order from the DC Circuit Court of Appeals is a temporary win for Trump in a protracted legal fight over whether he has the authority to build the ballroom on the site of the former East Wing without express approval from Congress.
The appeals court said work on the project can continue until at least April 17.

When the Boston Red Sox’s legendary Fenway Park posted archival footage of 1950s Opening Day last week, the team expected a pleasant wave of nostalgia. But the comments section produced something else. The grainy clip showed thousands of Bostonians all lining up with uninhibited joy for a baseball game. After receiving almost 10 million views, the video was so flooded with pointed comments that Fenway had to lock it. The message was clear: The America in the video exposed the unmistakable decline of our current nation. Millions of viewers saw it and immediately understood why.

Well, this should make for a pleasant ice-breaker in Islamabad. Negotiating teams from the US and Iran had a meeting scheduled for the morning in Pakistan, in large part focused on Iran's pledge to allow unfettered traffic in the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for [checks notes] not getting bombed back to the Stone Age. Instead, Iran attempted to force shippers to pay exorbitant "tolls" in cryptocurrency while continuing to export its own oil.
We'll get back to the opening session in a moment. The US Navy decided to enter the chat – as well as the Strait of Hormuz:

The U.S. military has launched operations to begin de-mining the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. Central Command (Centcom) said on Saturday.
Centcom said in a social media post highlighted by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that two Navy guided-missile destroyers began “setting conditions” for this mission on Saturday morning.
The USS Frank E. Peterson and USS Michael Murphy have previously operated in the Arabian Gulf to help clear the strait of sea mines set by Tehran, according to Centcom.

We were promised an absolute bloodbath.
During the 2023 election in Argentina, politicians, academics, journalists, and commentators lined up to denounce populist candidate Javier Milei and his plans for “shock therapy,” symbolized by the chainsaw he had taken to brandishing ominously on the campaign trail while shouting, “¡Viva la libertad, carajo!” (“Long live liberty, damn it!”)
Just days before Argentina went to the polls, more than a hundred economists, including superstar Thomas Piketty, published an open letter. They said a win for Milei would “inflict further devastation and social chaos” on a country that was already devastated and in chaos.

Things move fast in wartime, and the geopolitical situation in the Middle East might very well have shifted by the time this piece publishes. Nonetheless, Tuesday night’s ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States is a wonderful step in the right direction. It should be praised. Peace is a good thing.
I have long maintained that war in the Middle East is not in America’s interest and that war with Iran would be unproductive and should be avoided. I want Donald Trump’s domestic agenda of strong immigration enforcement, law and order, and economic growth to succeed. War abroad detracts from those core issues.

just discovered a breathtaking example of leftist bias on Google. I usually consult Thesaurus in Google if I want alternative words. If I look up a phrase I’m writing, let’s say “breathtaking corruption,” I just Google it to find a better way of expressing a phrase. Under those circumstances, you’d expect several examples of something comparable to “incredible corruption.” But would you expect nine paragraphs about a political figure? Bear with me. I am rereading the book, The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt (1979) by Edmund Morris. I’m halfway through the 800 page, Pulitzer Awarded masterpiece of writing.

In reports picked up by left-leaning outlets such as the Daily Beast and New Republic, Vatican-oriented freelance journalist Christopher Hale has tweeted that President Obama's chief strategist, David Axelrod, has met in a private audience with Pope Leo XIV. Axelrod, really?
What kind of message does that send? The pope has declined an offer to visit the U.S. for its 250th anniversary in favor of a trip to visit the illegal migrants on Lampedusa (which might bring him an unexpected round of protests from angry locals sick of being robbed and raped by them) on the grounds that he doesn't want any trip to be political.

Oh-oh, we may be looking at yet another instance of socialism that, gosh darn it, just wasn't done right.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani rode into office on a socialist unicorn after promising everything but free ice cream for life to the children of every voter. There are only two blocs in any electorate who vote for the kind of socialist utopian garbage that Mamdani spouted: young people who are too dumb to know any better, and older people who know better, but are so wealthy they don't care. The latter group is simply looking for a politician whom they might be able to control.

Why? Because Americans who are not die-hard leftists “can no longer live with radical, extreme, self-destructive, communist SUICIDE BOMBERS.”

Iran threatened to attack any US Navy ships that enter the Strait of Hormuz shortly after American vessels moved through the channel for the first time since the war broke out.
Tehran warned Pakistani mediators that “if the vessel continues to move, it will be targeted within 30 minutes, and the Iranian-American negotiations will suffer,” a Foreign Ministry spokesperson told Khabar Network, according to Fars News Agency.
The warning comes just after reports broke that “multiple” US vessels had crossed the strait for the first time in months in a move that “was not coordinated with Iran.”

Fifty-five years after Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals landed on shelves in 1971, I am applying to it the only framework that matters: a performance audit. The question is not whether Alinsky's thirteen tactics are morally defensible. The question is whether they worked for the constituencies they claimed to champion. The answer is no — and the data are not subtle. This is not merely a conservative grievance. It is a portfolio performance review. And the returns are dismal.

Cartel violence in places like Colombia and staggering debt crises in Argentina created cycles of deep despair. Now, these communities are finally witnessing their countries embrace booming oil and gas economic growth. Open minds and proactive policies rooted in energy realism are driving this change.

Apart from the fact that he is a terrible human being and a far-left fanatic, Swalwell has a problem with women. Numerous women have now accused him of sexual harassment or worse. Of course, they could all be making it up. But California’s Democrats aren’t betting that way.
