James Tolkan, the character actor who expressed a disdain for “slackers” in the Back to the Future trilogy and portrayed Tom Cruise’s no-nonsense commanding officer in Top Gun, has died. He was 94. Tolkan died Thursday in Saranac Lake, New York, a family spokesperson announced. Tolkan also played Napoleon and his look-alike in Woody Allen’s Love and Death (1975) and was the crooked accountant known as Numbers who works for Big Boy Caprice (Al Pacino) in Warren Beatty’s Dick Tracy (1990). He appeared in three movies directed by Sidney Lumet: as a cop in the Pacino-starring Serpico (1973), as a determined D.A.

And as both Mr. Strickland and Maverick's squadron commander, he was perfectly cast and played each part superbly. He was invited to and showed up at the Tomcat Sunset ceremony at NAS Oceana in 2006, and was looking rather old then. But wow - that was suddenly 20 years ago and 20 years AFTER the movies were released. RIP, Sir.

One of the good ones. Hollywood's worst specimens never seem to die, they just keep getting facelifts until they are eventually reincarnated.

On Sunday, a Frontier Airlines flight 2539 from Columbus, Ohio had to make an emergency landing at the Hartfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta after a passenger on board the aircraft made verbal bomb threats. The incident sparked a massive police response at the airport in Atlanta, Georgia, around 5pm on Sunday. The emergency landing took place shortly after that, amid allegations that the suspect allegedly tried to hijack the plane with the bomb threat. Fox 5 Atlanta reports citing the Atlanta Police Department, which is leading the investigation, that the bomb threat turned out to be a false alarm. However,

Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) said the United States had “won or is winning” the military conflict with Iran. Kristen Welker said, “I want to start off by talking about the war with Iran. Senator, President Trump continues to insist that the United States is winning. Take a listen to a little bit of what he had to say this week.” Trump said, “Let me end with one. You know, you never like to say ‘too early’, you won…We won. We won the bet in the first hour. It was over. I think we won. The wind knocked out the Navy, the Air Force. We’ve knocked out

The deal that was struck during the Obama era. Do you support the Trump administration’s efforts to try to negotiate a deal with Iran to bring this war to an end?” Booker said, “I don’t support this administration, period.

One of the surest ways you know that the left’s lame “No Kings” propaganda movement is inorganic is how much time, effort, and money must be concentrated every so many months just to get people to leave their homes for a narrow window in time on a single, slow-news Saturday. If the movement were truly grassroots and organic, you would be able to whip up a crowd in a day or so, especially if the movement were as nationwide as organizers want you to believe. If the movement were as real and as big as the organizers want you to believe, participants would be so “local”

While President Donald Trump is busy toppling communist dictators around the world, America's suicidally socialist Left has once again called on its legions of street thugs to burn, riot, and loot, as they did six years ago for George Floyd. For most of my life, Westerners have been harangued by feminists over our having a "rape culture." It's always annoyed me a bit because, while rapes obviously do happen, my own experience is that rape is considered one of the most heinous crimes, comparable with murder. Most people I know would happily applaud a father who killed his daughter's rapist. But when confronted with an actual "rape culture," liberals bend over backwards to excuse the rapists, hide the crimes, and embrace the culture that quite openly treats its own (and our) women like cattle.

House Republicans moved Friday to further extend the six-week shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, snubbing a bipartisan Senate bill that would fund the vast majority of DHS agencies through September and moving ahead with a plan of their own that stands little chance of becoming law. All Republicans and three Democrats — moderate Reps. Don Davis of North Carolina, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington and Henry Cuellar of Texas — voted in favor of a temporary extension of all DHS funding through May 22, including immigration enforcement. The gavel came down on the 213-203 vote just before midnight Saturday morning,

"As the Democrat-caused shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security continues well into its sixth week, America’s air travel system has reached its breaking point," Trump wrote. "This is an unprecedented emergency situation."

At 87 years old, California Rep. Maxine Waters isn’t just part of the Democratic gerontocracy the party is trying to fight against — she’s arguably its most visible face. Thus, approaching the 2026 election, you’d think that she’d be considering retiring — and if not that, at least scaling back her role a bit. Pulling a Pelosi, if you will: take it a bit easy and let your stock portfolio do the work for you. But, no. Not only does crazy old Auntie Maxine plan on running for her 19th term in office — which she’ll almost certainly succeed at, given her name recognition and how blue her district is

When did getting from point A to point B get so complicated? When the government decided which cars Americans should buy. With the economic and scientific premises behind electric vehicle (EV) mandates collapsing, the EV bubble may burst completely. There is one mandate left to burst: California’s Advanced Clean Cars II (ACC II) regulation, which requires all new vehicles to be 100 percent electric by 2035, or else automakers get penalized. With the federal repeal of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Endangerment Finding in February, the government’s formal scientific basis for EV mandates is gone. State governments no longer have a rational scientific basis for requiring EV sales.

What do you call it when a politician tells you to put elections “back on a level playing field” by voting for a redistricting map gerrymandered to give Democrats 10 seats to Republicans’ one? “Lying” doesn’t quite foot the bill. “Rank deception” is closer, but I think this kind of rhetoric calls for the big guns. I’ll settle on “shameless Orwellian gaslighting,” because supporting the Virginia redistricting push in the name of “fairness” involves redefining basic words in the same manner as the oppressive government in George Orwell’s “1984,” and this rhetorical strategy seems designed to make people with rational concerns about the ballot initiative question their sanity. This particular shameless Orwellian

The housing development was canceled for now, but it’s not the only problem. Texas, like Florida, New York, Utah, South Carolina, and North Carolina, is experiencing a similar threat. Attorney General Ken Paxton wrote, In early February 2026, residents raised concerns about a foreign-based development company’s plan to purchase thousands of acres near Kaufman, Texas. The developers’ plan to create a “sustainable city” capable of housing as many as 20,000 foreign nationals alarmed the surrounding communities.

Sharks in the Bahamas have tested positive for cocaine, a new study concludes. Researchers from the Bahamas, Brazil, and Chile also found traces of caffeine and painkillers in the sharks. This isn't a shift in lifestyle from the animals, but rather something that's being forced upon them, as marine pollution becomes ever more pervasive. Finding traces of these substances in a tropical place widely seen as idyllic and pristine is concerning – it seems there are vanishingly few spots on Earth where wildlife can escape our influence. "Pharmaceuticals and illicit drugs are increasingly recognized as contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in marine environments, particularly in areas undergoing rapid urbanization and tourism-driven development,"
