The ballroom dancing won’t commence just yet at the White House, but President Trump is celebrating a decision by U.S. District Judge Richard Leon that denied an attempt by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to stop construction of the president's $400 million proposed addition.
Leon did write, however, that the matter could very well be revisited:
U.S. District Judge Richard Leon ruled that the National Trust for Historic Preservation is unlikely to prevail on its request for a temporary halt to President Donald Trump’s construction plan. He said the group may have a stronger case if it amends its lawsuit.

Why, how helpful of him!

Along with hating the idea of everything President Trump proposes, the left has another flaw the pops up when there's an effort to provide a source of pride for Americans. Even when no taxpayer money is to be spent building it, the left objects to President Trump building a magnificent ballroom for future events worthy of our great nation. Dems have become stuck in a mindset that looks down on Americans with the attitude they don't deserve nice things. Their performance at the SOTU speech suggests that few of them were ever taught how to disagree without being disagreeable. Upgrading the White House seems like a reasonable idea. Maybe we can start upgrading the quality of electeds who get to use it in the mid-terms.

The East Wing has been demolished. Just exactly what is the National Trust for Historic Preservation trying to preserve?

I think this ballroom is going to be awesome.
It's great idea and long overdue. There is just no reason to oppose it.

If Obama or Biden had come up with this idea to build a new East Wing WITH taxpayers' money, the Dems would have thought it was the most wonderful idea ever. If the National Trust for Historic Preservation had been able to stop construction, what was their plan then? The East Wing has been torn down so I guess they would rather have a permanent unfinished construction site than the beautiful new building that is going to be built there that all Americans should be proud of.

The old, run down East Wing is gone. What does the lawsuit hope to achieve? Leave grass where the East Wing was? Rebuild the East Wing? Where is the trust worrying about the poor state of many of the historic buildings in Washington DC? They should stick to their non profits mission and focus on preserving and maintaining what exists; not what has been torn down.

The stupidity of these people amazes me. I wouldn't be surprise if when the Democrats get back to the White House the will tear down the ballroom, they are that stupid.

The leftists seem to find a “Snail Darter” under every rock, wherever progress is yet to be made. This isn’t the 1970’s anymore, leftists. We simply don’t care about your latest naturalistic concerns.

Trump is paying out of his pocket for the project. No federal funds involved.

Preservation? Kinda late to the game. Demo is done. So it's obvious this isn't about preservation.

I think a revised East wing is good, I not excited about it rising above the major structure so much. It looks like it is about 5 ft. higher. It should not be any more than 2 feet, That is for aesthetics and ease for the security people.

As stated by #3, 5, 7 and 11, the old East Wing building has been demolished and removed.
What is there to 'preserve'..... other than the 'Rats hatred for anything President Trump may build and leave behind, which would preserve the memory of him as President, and the good that he has done -is doing- for America.
As #8 said, when the 'Rats get a pResident back in the White House, it would not surprise me for them to destroy the new ballroom building, just out of meanness and spite.
The 'Rats are like the Communists and the Muslims..... Destroy any memorial or anything else that would inform future generations of the good deeds done by any person or any culture other than their own.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation wants to preserve the practice holding large international occasions in tents and port a potty facilities instead of a beautiful ballroom with indoor plumbing. They are out of their minds with TDS.

Many years ago, a engineering analysis and simulation software company used to hold the annual user group meetings in the magnificent old mansions in Newport, RI. Even though I had attended the first grade in Newport, at that age, I hadn't previously been aware of Mansion Row. I did go out and look for my school one free afternoon....found it, and then found the three story house where we had lived for a year and a half.
The software company rented out various old mansions for the meet and greets and for the big dinner, while using the classrooms and auditorium at nearby Salve Regina University for the technical meetings.
I'll never forget the big formal dinners, held several times at the Rose Cliff mansion, which superficially resembles, on a much smaller scale, what the new East Wing Ballroom will be like. It has a magnificent white ballroom with tall windows, high ceilings and beautiful decor..... which just sets the tone for an enjoyable, fine dining experience. Nothing says low class like a tent and porta-potties.

I spit in the direction of these sad haters. The ballroom will be wonderful.
