TMZ's Halftime Show Poll Isn't Going the

Well, Bad Bunny ended up not wearing a dress during yesterday's Super Bowl halftime show. We have to wonder if Roger Goodell or someone in the NFL put the kibosh on that plan, especially after Goodell said the program wouldn't be political. President Trump slammed the show as "terrible" and "one of the worst." Meanwhile, the TPUSA alternative show attracted tens of millions of views so far. TMZ put up a poll last night asking which show was better, and it's not going well for them.(snip) "Estimates show that over 20 million watched the alternative halftime show. That's a huge chunk of the captive audience walking away,"

It will be interesting to see if this affects things financially. At one time, certain events guaranteed the price of the ads after the number of viewers was confirmed. Fewer viewers meant that the advertisers had to pay less. I was in the newspaper business, and our audited circulation set our advertising rates, so there was no refund involved, but if we made a mistake in the first issue, we ran what we called a 'make-good'. A second, corrected ad at no cost. Just curious. The SB may have had extra viewers at halftime just because they wanted to see what all the controversy was about.

Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) has positioned himself as a firebrand when it comes to exposing the Epstein files, and he now has a chance to prove it's not just partisan grandstanding. Following the release of more information on Monday, his fellow party member, Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-VI), has been further implicated in the scandal. According to multiple emails, she used a pseudonym to solicit funding from Epstein for a "new voter file" that would help her win elections in the Virgin Islands. (Snip) Plaskett had a full-blown relationship with him, up to and including letting him dictate congressional hearings

Among the people running to fill the seat vacated by former GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is one of her former staffers, Jim Tully. Introducing himself on a local conservative radio show in January, he didn’t mention his connection to Greene until asked by the host.(snip)There’s a clear pattern in how the Republicans running to replace Greene address her resignation and her split with President Donald Trump. Those who are better known due to their prior involvement with local GOP politics strike a balance between showing loyalty to Trump and respect to Greene, while newcomers have less hesitation about taking shots at her.

The closely watched Republican Senate primary in Texas is too close to call, with incumbent John Cornyn, Rep. Wesley Hunt, and state Attorney General Ken Paxton within 1.5 percentage points of each other, according to a new poll exclusively obtained by The Post. J.L. Partners found 27.0% of likely voters supported Paxton, 25.7% backed Hunt, and 25.5% would cast a ballot for Cornyn if the election were held today. Another 21.7% were unsure of whom they would support. The survey indicates the race has tightened from two months ago, when 29% of likely primary voters said they would back Paxton —

Are demographics really destiny? The 19th-century philosopher Auguste Comte, credited with the aphorism, emphasized that population trends are the most reliable predictors of a country's long-term trajectory. Comte actually said "demography" was destiny, which makes more sense, but the idea that a nation's future can be predicted by figuring out where people are moving is still a solid theory.[snip] there's a lot more to demographics than race or gender. There's the very real and consequential fact of people "voting with their feet." As it stands now, those votes are shifting massively toward red states.

The problem was the show’s conceit: It was a message of unity, inclusion, and togetherness — in a language that 85% of the population doesn’t understand and cannot speak. That’s not unity. That’s division. Lo siento, Bad Bunny and/or the NFL, but the underlying metrics of the NFL’s Super Bowl halftime show didn’t make a lick of sense: Only about 14% to 18% of the U.S. population speaks fluent Spanish — which means, of course, that 86% to 82% do not. Only 14% of the NFL’s total audience is Hispanic. The number of Latinos/Hispanics who speak English exclusively is growing, not shrinking:

The game, before 70,823 fans at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, showcased a punishing, opportunistic defense by the Seahawks that rendered Patriots quarterback Drake Maye mostly ineffective all night.

Democrats push hard for every possible advantage in elections, but courts sometimes draw a line. U.S. District Judge William L. Osteen Jr. delivered a ruling that defined those lines by rejecting a Democratic demand for early voting sites on three North Carolina university campuses. His ruling carried an unmistakable tone of impatience toward a case that tried to dress political convenience as constitutional necessity. The College Democrats of North Carolina argued that without on-campus sites, students would need to travel off campus to vote, imposing time and transportation burdens on young voters. That's the premise Judge Osteen rejected, making clear that elections aren't built to require perfect comfort;

The SAVE Act: Why Are Senate Republicans Dithering? 13 replies

In almost all midterm congressional elections, the President’s party loses seats in the House of Representatives. The only exceptions occurred in 1902, 1934, 1998, and 2002. This obviously means the razor thin Republican House majority — and thus the GOP’s governing trifecta — will be in considerable peril next November. This being the case, common sense dictates that certain crucial bills should be prioritized by Congress and sent to President Trump’s desk for signature post haste. Considering the insecure and chaotic manner in which federal elections are conducted in blue states, the SAVE Act clearly falls into the must pass category.
