Milan Olympics: Honor the Country or Hand

Olympic athletes aren't stumbling into competition by accident; years of training, taxpayer-backed facilities, national governing bodies, corporate sponsors, and a county willing to invest all come together to push the select few onto the world's stage. Displaying the flag on their uniform represents far more than any fashion choice or personal mood, yet every Olympic cycle seems to attract competitors who want the benefits without sharing the burden of gratitude. U.S. freestyle skier Hunter Hess, a Team USA member, recently voiced his mixed emotions about representing America, citing immigration enforcement and political disagreements. He determined that the flag on his chest represents friends, family, and personal ideals over government

What an ingrate. I hope he gets a proper tongue lashing from everyone he knows. More than that, though, is that he fell for a rookie trap and now he'll pay the price. When fake news asks how you feel about the country, ask him if he's got any questions about skiing or he can leave.

The right answer to this, as mentioned by others, is to poison the advertising gigs that these people live for. If a company signs on a "Hess" that disrespects their own country, people should vigorously point out the toxicity of that individual. It could also be pointed out to companies that their sponsorship of teams should come with clauses that say that disrespect of the USA will be reason for loss of the sponsorship. Vast amounts of money are spent by companies to be associated with the Olympics and their positive image. "Hesses" soil that image and stain the Olympic brand. There should be a cost to officially standing at the Olympics and dissing your country.

We go through the same crap every Olympics when some entitled twit decides to use their moment in the spotlight to trash the country. These people basically live for free thanks to the taxpayer if they reach the Olympic level in whatever obscure event they happen to enter. These skiers and skaters and others travel all over the world for events leading up to the Olympics all on the American dime, and their sponsors. Plus, before they reach the Olympic level, they train for years to get good enough to compete on the international level. This training isn't cheap. So, generally, these people come from fairly well-off families. They're not usually from lower income or even blue-collar families. They grow entitled.

His commercial “sponsors” are Volkl skis, a German brand; Marker bindings, a German company; Dalbello boots, an Italian company; Peak Performance outerwear/apparel, a Swedish brand; and Dragon Alliance goggles/eyewear, finally a US-based company. Perhaps these companies supply all our skiers, but I would certainly dissuade them from asking comrade Hess to endorse their brand.

"America, Love It or Leave It," was a bumper sticker found on cars of the 1960's and 70's, but should be more applicable now, than back then. Make these athletes ALL sign contracts/NDAs making them face very real consequences for their actions, while in Olympic competition, especially while overseas. Shame on these Olympic Committee Approved "Journalistas" for their "trash America" setup questions they ask every American athlete/competitor/winner, that they don't also do with other nation's athletes. European elites still hate Americans, 250 years later; for the next European international war, you're on your own, boys and girls, don't call us to waste American lives bailing y'all out again.

I watched a Democrat politician on Fox News a couple of days ago claim that the wimpy Republicans created the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) a few years ago to essentially terrorize minorities throughout the USA, thus telling the uninformed that there was never essentially such “Gestapo” style enforcement of immigration laws before that by the Federal Government. That is not true. What really happened was after the 9/11 Islamic attacks on the USA, the Federal Government decided to establish the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and combined the legacy Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), that included the US Border Patrol, from within the Department of Justice along the US Customs Service from within the Treasury Department together, along with other agencies, in the new Department of Homeland Security. The Inspections and Investigation Divisions of the INS and the Border Patrol always have enforced the immigration laws across the USA and along the international borders and ports of entry. In that respect as a personal note I have my mother’s foreign passport that contains a US Immigrant Visa that was issued to my mother at a US Embassy abroad in 1926. Without having that passport and visa my mother would never have been able to board the ship that carried her across the ocean to the USA. I also have her alien registration card that was issued to her by the INS after she entered the USA showing that she was a permanent resident alien. She passed away 48 years ago. What has actually changed is that the leftist, progressive, and socialist Democrats have highly politicized the legitimate enforcement of the federal immigration laws across the USA to be able to keep all illegal aliens (tens of millions) in the USA and be able to transform them into a future leftist, progressive, and socialist Democrat constituency organization, grant them a so-called “comprehensive immigration reform amnesty” putting them all on a “path to citizenship” and of course transformed to becoming Democrat voters on into the future, by telling the current illegal alien population, that consists of mostly Third World origin poor and uneducated people that the leftist Democrats will grant them all eligibility to receive all forms of public assistance (welfare) benefits, free healthcare benefits, and other “free stuff”. To do that the leftist Democrats, in the extreme, claim that they will abolish all immigration enforcement across the USA, so that whatever foreign people who wish will be able to gain entry to the USA as “Blue Bunny” essentially told told the World during the NFL half time show on Sunday, gain US Citizenship, permanently change the racial and voter population demographics of the USA, and of course become leftist Democrat supporters and voters on into the future in unlimited numbers, common sense will tell you if such leftist Democrat political dreams ever become reality, that the current USA would loose its sovereignty and will not have much of a future as a developed independent country.

Hey Hunter. Do you want some cheese with that whine? Sure, you're an Olympic athlete, world class, but you weren't one when your mother pushed you out of her womb. It took work, time, dedication, and especially money to get where you are today. Once you reached the elite level, you pursued your passion essentially for free, on the backs of millions of American taxpayers. At the Olympics, you are not just an elite athlete, you are also a representative of the United States, and you should be appreciative of our support and be glad to represent us. I'm sure there are other skiers who would love to be in your skis and would support and enthusiastically represent the US. Maybe you should give them a chance.

This is why I don't watch any Olympics - summer or winter. They have become a political stunt and a sorry spectacle full of self absorbed prima donnas. The media will pick one "darling" for the games and put it in our faces until we puke. Apparently this year was the Vonn woman (she is not a girl any more) but it failed. She got what she deserved because of her ego. As to the others, I hope they lose every time they compete. I'm tired of listening to the endless sobbing stories of what it takes to be in the sport while they have sponsors to boot and get a lot of money for playing all day. How about real people working for living and the sacrifices they make time and time again. Every time the disgusting games are longer and longer with more ridiculous "sports" to add. Sorry, but I'm tired of them badmouthing the country that is paying for them to be there. I know fellow L Dotters. I just had it.

Nonfarm payrolls increased by 130,000 for January, above the Dow Jones consensus estimate for 55,000, according to seasonally adjusted figures the Bureau of Labor Statistics released Wednesday. The total also was an improvement over December, which saw a gain of 48,000 after a slight downward revision. The unemployment rate edged lower to 4.3%, below the forecast to stay unchanged at 4.4% from the prior month. A more encompassing measure that includes discouraged workers and those holding part-time positions for economic reasons slipped to 8%,

Newly unsealed Department of Justice documents reveal that in July 2006, then businessman Donald Trump was one of the first to call police to warn them about sex predator Jeffrey Epstein. The documents include a previously unreported 2019 FBI interview summary with former Palm Beach police chief Michael Reiter. Trump had contacted the department shortly after reports of Epstein's criminal sex investigation became public. The future president contacted Reiter to express relief that authorities were finally acting, suggesting his associates in New York had described Epstein's behaviors as "disgusting," and advised investigators to focus on Ghislaine Maxwell, whom he described as "evil."

President Donald Trump, in a call two decades ago to a Florida police chief, bashed his former friend Jeffrey Epstein and called Epstein’s procurer, Ghislaine Maxwell, “evil,” the now-retired cop recounted to FBI agents in 2019, according to a document released by the Department of Justice. Trump called the then-Palm Beach Police Chief Michael Reiter “to tell him ‘thank goodness you’ [are] stopping [Epstein], everyone has known he’s been doing this,” Reiter told the FBI in October 2019, according to the FBI document, known as a 302. Two weeks ago, Jonathan Chait was one of many left-wingers who seemed to be declaring victory of ICE and President Trump. Here's a bit of what he was saying. Trump’s retreat in Minneapolis is a stinging defeat for the national conservatives, the Republican Party’s most nakedly authoritarian faction... Trump’s capitulation would never have occurred if not for the heroic, disciplined resistance in Minneapolis. Faced with something like an occupying army that was systematically flouting the law, the people of Minneapolis thrust its abuse into the public eye, raising the political cost of Miller’s war until enough Republicans decided that they couldn’t bear to pay it.

The Trump administration is set this week to overturn an Obama-era scientific finding that serves as the legal basis for federal greenhouse-gas regulation, the Environmental Protection Agency said on Monday. Repealing the so-called endangerment finding, a scientific determination that greenhouse gas emissions endanger human health, would remove the legal foundation for broader greenhouse gas regulation and would mark the Trump administration’s most wide-reaching ‍climate policy rollback. The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that the repeal is expected to be published later this week, and cited EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin saying it would amount to “the largest act of deregulation in the history of the United States.”
