More than 38,000 Minnesotans have applied for the state’s paid leave program and some of them have already been flagged for possible attempted fraud. The Department of Employment and Economic Development reported Monday that it received a total of 38,336 applications for the paid leave program in its first month of rollout. Nearly half are for paid family leave and about 40 percent are for medical leave, while the rest comprise of caring, safety and military family leave. Global warming morphed into climate change so that liberals could complain about any inconvenient weather and blame it on free enterprise. Thus, we have the absurd situation where liberals claim that “climate change” causes both excessive heat and excessive cold, whichever happens to be occurring at the moment.
This makes no sense. Saying that climate change causes warmer (or colder) weather is circular. It is like saying that my weight change caused me to get heavier. Blaming both heat and cold on climate change is like saying that my weight change caused me to get both heavier and lighter, at different times.
In any event, it isn’t true. Both extreme heat

A federal judge refused Sunday to help in attempts to open early voting sites at three public North Carolina universities, declining requests to overrule decisions by Republican-controlled elections boards leading up to the state’s upcoming primary.
U.S. District Judge William Osteen rejected arguments by the College Democrats of North Carolina and some students that they were likely to win a recent lawsuit because decisions by GOP board members placed undue burdens on the right to vote.
The decision by Osteen — nominated to the bench by President George W. Bush — to deny a preliminary injunction or a temporary restraining order can be appealed.

Recent regional elections have seen Democratic candidates win a number of special-election races.
Now, energized left-wing politicos remind the nation daily that every incumbent president, except three over the last century, has suffered substantial midterm losses in Congress.
Polls show President Donald Trump suffering an average 11-point negative unfavorability rating.
So Democrats promise to soon stop all new legislation and end Trump and his counterrevolution itself.
But the left will never offer any alternative agenda on the economy, the border, crime or foreign policy.

Two Los Angeles County supervisors are backing a new tax hike on residents that would spike the cost of almost everything — including shopping, dining out and other everyday purchases across the county.
Supervisors Hilda Solis and Holly Mitchell are pushing a half-cent sales tax they say would help counter looming federal health care funding cuts that threaten Medi-Cal services.
But because the tax would apply to retail sales and restaurant purchases, it was quickly trashed by opponents who say it raises prices for families regardless of whether they use affected health care services.

This is a tale of two federal judges -- one Trump appointee and one Biden appointee -- who separately sentenced two men for their attempted assassinations of a former (and future) president of the United States and a current Supreme Court justice. The Trump judge correctly followed the facts and law, sentencing the would-be Trump assassin to life; the Biden judge dangerously followed her political and ideological agenda, sentencing the would-be Kavanaugh assassin -- because he now pretends he's a woman -- to less than one-third of the recommended sentence.

In the wake of a deadly semi-truck versus van accident in Indiana last week, increased scrutiny is being placed on a shadowy network of trucking companies that seem to be responsible for putting illegal aliens and unqualified foreign nationals – many who don't even speak English – in the driver's seat of big rigs that criss-cross the United States every day. One of these drivers, Kygryzstani national Bekzhan Beishekeev, is believed to be responsible for the February 3 crash in Indiana that killed four members from the local Amish community who were traveling in the van that was hit head on by Beishekeev (three of the victims were from one

In a stunning reversal, the Trump Justice Department on Monday asked the Supreme Court and a federal judge to dismiss the criminal contempt indictment and conviction of Steve Bannon for refusing to testify in the January 6 investigation by Congress, declaring such a request is in the “interests of justice" after years of politically weaponized lawfare by Democrats.
The move by DOJ is extremely rare -- but not unprecedented -- considering Bannon was already convicted and served time in prison.
"The government has determined in its prosecutorial discretion that dismissal of this criminal case is in the interests of justice,” Solicitor General John Sauer wrote in a brief to the nine justices,

Some news stories are an IQ test. That was my initial reaction to a recent report claiming DNI Tulsi Gabbard was covering up a damning "whistleblower" complaint involving foreign intelligence and the Trump White House. As usual, almost the entirety of the left and their allies in the mainstream press didn't manage to break 70.
To start, let's take a look at the original claim, as published by The Guardian on Saturday. Here was the wording before the paper amended it for "clarity," which we'll get to.
Last spring, the National Security Agency (NSA) flagged an unusual phone call between an individual associated with foreign intelligence and a person close

I guess we’ll have another federal government “shutdown” starting on Friday night. Except it will only impact a single federal agency, the Department of Homeland Security. And not even all of that, as I understand that ICE and Border Patrol already have approved budgets.
Congress worked out a full budget covering all agencies through the end of September. Republicans have already conceded much ground on spending, and everyone on both sides had already signed off on the deal.
Then Senate Democrats, acting in bad faith, staged a revolt last week, leading to the current impasse. Democrats have provided a new list of policy demands

The problem was the show’s conceit: It was a message of unity, inclusion, and togetherness — in a language that 85% of the population doesn’t understand and cannot speak.
That’s not unity. That’s division.
Lo siento, Bad Bunny and/or the NFL, but the underlying metrics of the NFL’s Super Bowl halftime show didn’t make a lick of sense:
Only about 14% to 18% of the U.S. population speaks fluent Spanish — which means, of course, that 86% to 82% do not.
Only 14% of the NFL’s total audience is Hispanic.
The number of Latinos/Hispanics who speak English exclusively is growing, not shrinking:

If you take a close look at some of the major news stories that have captured our collective attention over the last few weeks, you may notice a peculiar pattern.
We’ll start in Minneapolis, with the story that has dominated the headlines for weeks. Although Tom Homan, President Trump’s “border czar,” has deftly negotiated a de-escalation of tensions in the nation’s most aggressive, bizarre, and aggressively bizarre sanctuary city, protests there continue. More to the point, state and local politicians continue to behave as if federal laws are irrelevant and as if they have no responsibility whatsoever to abide by rules that they have decided are unpleasant.

Public broadcaster NHK estimated that the coalition headed by Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is on track to secure a two-thirds supermajority in the House of Representatives.
The LDP alone is expected to win enough seats to govern outright, marking a dramatic turnaround for a party that had lost its parliamentary majority just two years ago.

In almost all midterm congressional elections, the President’s party loses seats in the House of Representatives. The only exceptions occurred in 1902, 1934, 1998, and 2002. This obviously means the razor thin Republican House majority — and thus the GOP’s governing trifecta — will be in considerable peril next November. This being the case, common sense dictates that certain crucial bills should be prioritized by Congress and sent to President Trump’s desk for signature post haste. Considering the insecure and chaotic manner in which federal elections are conducted in blue states, the SAVE Act clearly falls into the must pass category.
