My family has a long history with Ford trucks. Among my earliest memories is riding in the 1950 Ford F-1 my Dad had when he was farming; the Old Man later kept a 4-wheel-drive F-250 on his place for various chores. I've had a bunch, from a 1984 Ford Ranger, two Broncos, a 1999 Ranger, and now the F-350 Super Duty we call the Behemoth. I like Ford trucks, and reckon I'll keep on driving them.
On Tuesday, Ford gave me more reason to favor them by finally dropping the F-150 "Lightning," an all-electric version of Ford's famous top-seller.

It was doomed to fail from the start. Nobody who wants a REAL pickup wants an electric pickup.

I worked in the automotive industry in Detroit for 30 years. The gurus running it are not magical. They are as out of touch and political as anyone in Washington. The political winds in this country change under every Administration so these fools should have known better.

Couldn't get 270,000 miles out of an electric like I have on my daily driver. An older F-150

I saw this coming when they "paused" EV truck production. I was pretty certain that they'd never start it up again.
And, of course, there are more fools out there saying, just like Communism and Socialism....."well, THEY didn't do it right, but I can do it right and make it work!"
EVs have been "the technology of the future" since the 1880s, and now almost 150 years later, people are still saying...."well, in a few years, when they get these small problems worked out, EVs will be great".
NO......chemical batteries will NEVER, EVER compare with hydrocarbon fuels for energy density, cost and speed and convenience of refueling. NEVER. One of the greatest inventors in human history, Thomas Edison, did a VERY, VERY thorough search, with hundreds of skilled chemists and huge funding to discover 'the perfect battery'. And he was successful. Edison cells last forever, and work very well. But they are EXTREMELY heavy and very low energy per unit volume (energy density). They were used some in commercial, stationary service decades ago -- but are almost unknown today because of their important limitations.
And an even BIGGER joke are these various "electric airplanes" and flying car scams that many starry eyed or crooked folks are trying to sell to the public...."All I need is a few million to perfect the design and increase the range".....from 15 minutes and 20 miles before the batteries are flat.

I don’t normally have any particular reaction to a vehicle, but I saw my first big, black, boxy, all electric Ford F150 Lightning truck today on a Walmart parking lot while waiting for curbside pick up. It pulled into the parking slot facing me and I thought how ugly the truck was with that big white (odd and cheap plastic looking) light bar across the front.
I realized it was electric when the driver opened the front hood for her groceries to be loaded in the storage compartment. Not only ugly, but weird too, I thought, and this one was really decked out!
I came home and looked it up online. No wonder they are ending production of it. I can’t imagine anyone wanting one in the first place because of the looks alone, but certainly not at that price! Maybe that’s why there aren’t that many of them seen around this neck of the woods, and that this one had a woman driver.

This entire EV dream was a landfill waiting to happen. I am reminded of the story of 12 blind men describing an elephant.

My son drives a hybrid Toyota truck and loves it. As for me, I like my Toyota Corolla. It gets good mileage and it's fine for what I need it to do. I have a battery powered lawnmower, weed eater and leaf blower which are also fine for what I need.
Ford was going to build a battery manufacturing plant in Kentucky. But they aren't anymore.

I actually own, and drive daily, a 2nd generation Ford F-150 Lightning. It has about 150k miles on it, I bought it new in 2003 and it has been the most dependable truck I've owned. That 400hp under the hood has never let me down. As for the electric Lightning, it was an insult to the real Ford Lightnings!

The most rudimentary Engineering Analysis will ALWAYS prove that "electric" vehicles will NEVER be viable in a free-market capitalist system wherein internal-combustion competition exists. Electrics LOSE on:
a) Environmental impacts of batteries
b) Sustainability and recyclability of batteries
c) Roadworthiness Immediacy, time to charge, etc.
d) Distance capable on a single charge compared to a full tank of gasoline in a comparable IC vehicle.
e) Pulling capacity & duration compared to the ICV
f) Customer setup costs (chargers, electrician's labor, etc.)
g) Price delta of an EV versus a comparable ICV.
These are all things they don't tell you when you're making your purchasing decision. I suspect EV's would have one of the highest, "Buyer Remorse," poll numbers of any vehicle, since the Yugo were it not for Government financial incentives... tell me if I'm wrong.

Ford is infamous among mechanics (been one for 40 years) for doing stupid things. These car companies need to stop hiring madison ave. types and go back to those with engineering backgrounds. Hoovies (tyler hoover) youtube was quite an eyeopener on the lightening. The goofy all-electric dingbat at GM comes to mind. HD is another example, though with motorcycles.

#17 is not wrong! Hybrids I can understand, although hybrids, despite their great efficiency, also have potentially dangerous Li-ion batteries. When Luton Airport outside London saw its parking structure partially collapse in a fire, it was a hybrid, not a full electric car, that started the fire. Fire was apparently shooting like a blowtorch out of the front axle area. Many cars were unretrievable. Total disaster. Fire departments hate having to deal with electric car fires, which will burn underwater, merrily.
In time, electric cars must disappear because they make no practical sense in a world where people have to move about. No "15 Minute" cities in America! Electric cars were a bad idea when they first appeared in the 1880s; they are a bad idea now. With AI and cryptocurrency requiring heretofore unknown horrendous amounts of electricity, windmills and solar panels will be utterly insufficient, and also must disappear when their short 15 year lifespan requires them to be replaced. Don't replace them! We ought to go back to coal. And nuclear. And hydro. And natural gas. The earth's plant and animal kingdoms would benefit from more carbon dioxide.

They should have polled the customers that buy trucks. they never have made an EV piece of crap. But that is what happens when one listens to Democrats and thinks, we'll get rewarded for getting on board. Nope it's a losers bet.

There is definitely a "herd" mentality among corporate executives. The company I work for (part-time, after retirement from same) banked big on the EV success story. Now you read lines in the company newsletter about "...the slow adoption of EVs..." I agree with other LDot posters, there will always be a niche market for EVs. Will probably never rise above 10%, except by Executive Order. Which is always a possibility.
