Meet ‘Big Alex,’ the Brazilian judge

Some Brazilian historians now count 14 coup attempts in the republic’s 136 years. Some have been successful, including the one that installed a military dictatorship between 1964-1985. But only the latest, which a Supreme Court panel ruled was orchestrated by former President Jair Bolsonaro, ended with prison sentences for its leaders, instigators and supporters, many of whom are already behind bars. To a large extent, the unprecedented outcome is the result of one man’s drive. Supreme Court justice Alexandre de Moraes, the judge who spearheaded the case, has become a hero to some Brazilians and a zealot to others. In Brazil he is better known as “Xandão,” or “Big Alex” in Portuguese.

Of course, such a trial is political. But was Bolsonaro guilty or was the trial just the Brazilian version of our own J6 fabrications?

Now We Know: Voters Were Right, ‘Experts’

All last year, we were treated to a steady stream of stories about the “huge” and “baffling” gap between the public’s negative views about the economy and its “actual performance.” Our favorite “economist” Paul Krugman was apoplectic. “Why are so many Americans still telling pollsters that the economy is in bad shape” when “it’s hard to overstate just how good recent economic numbers have been.” Last week, the government issued two reports that explain why. And the reason is simple. The experts were wrong. The public was right. On Tuesday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, after a string of glaring mistakes in its jobs report, announced the mother of all screw-ups.

Some Thoughts on the Assassination of

If by chance you were unaware of Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University this week, he was a very articulate debater who treated respectfully those who debated him. He espoused views which were perfectly normal, a defender of the West, Israel, and Christianity, enlightenment views which matched those of the Founders and are encapsulated in the Constitution. You may see videos of his debates on the internet. He was skillful at it and had thousands of young followers. Indeed, many consider his successful work a big factor in youth support for the President.
Ivermectin's Surprising Potential Against Cancer 11 replies

There is a safe and inexpensive cure for many types of cancer that is apparently being ignored by medical industrial complex and media. One possible reason why is because this new treatment protocol includes ivermectin (IVM). During the pandemic the use of this so-called “horse dewormer” was vigorously attacked by legacy media and banned as a COVID-19 treatment by the Biden administration’s FDA and CDC. India used it and had 10 times fewer deaths. Perhaps admitting that IVM worked would be embarrassing. During the pandemic many courageous doctors were fired for questioning the government-mandated COVID-19 treatment protocol or warning of the dangerous mRNA vaccine side effects.

At long last, the guardians of traditional finance have admitted the obvious: the future of securities lies on-chain. Nasdaq’s application to the SEC to list and trade tokenized U.S. stocks and exchange-traded products is not a gimmick. It is the most significant step Wall Street has taken toward legitimizing the digital infrastructure that crypto builders have been perfecting for over a decade. For years, tokenization was dismissed as a fever dream of crypto maximalists. Now the world’s second-largest exchange wants in. Nasdaq’s plan is deliberately cautious. Tokenized securities will carry the same CUSIPs, the same voting rights, and the same dividend streams as their paper-era counterparts.
Over 400 Genocide Scholars Say That Hamas,

Four hundred and twenty genocide scholars, survivors, and experts signed a statement affirming that Hamas, not Israel, is guilty of the crime of genocide. The experts also criticized their fellow scholars who falsely accused Israel of genocide in Gaza. Scholars for Truth About Genocide (STAG) condemned the inaccurate accusations of the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) against Israel. While IAGS asserted Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, STAG explained why this is false. “Genocide is the gravest offense known to humankind; to dilute its legal standards for ideological ends is a form of moral violence,” STAG declared.
The Dragon’s House of Cards: China’s

Last month marked the collapse of China’s Evergrande, once the world’s most indebted developer with $300 billion in liabilities. The real estate sector remains a debt bubble, fueled by roughly $695 billion in new government-approved loans. While the property crisis has been widely reported, the broader scale of China’s debt problem is less understood. Official figures show that public and private debt combined already exceed 309% of GDP, yet even this number understates the true scope. When other sources of leverage are factored in, such as margin trading, shadow banking through wealth management products, and off-balance-sheet local government borrowing, China’s total debt burden climbs to at least 400 percent of GDP.

At a Home Depot parking lot, a man patrols on a bicycle for federal immigration agents, toting a megaphone on his hip so he can blast a warning to day laborers waiting to land a landscaping or construction job. The workers from Mexico, El Salvador and elsewhere carry whistles to also sound the alarm, while activists swap details over two-way radios about whether cars whizzing by could be unmarked vehicles carrying officers preparing for a raid. Their work is cut out for them. Agents have raided the lot outside the 108,000 square-foot Home Depot store in the Van Nuys neighborhood of Los Angeles at least five times this summer,

When most people think of mayoral campaign promises, they picture fixing potholes, improving schools, or reducing crime. But Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Socialist nominee for New York City mayor, is vowing to have the NYPD arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should he dare show his face in the Big Apple. This isn't your typical political grandstanding. Mamdani wants to honor an International Criminal Court arrest warrant targeting Netanyahu for alleged war crimes in Gaza, stemming from the ongoing war that erupted after Hamas's October 7 attack on Israel. The Pentagon is not backing down from its quest for consequences for those who celebrate Charlie Kirk’s killing, even as Democrats warn the move is "un-American" and violates free speech protections. The controversy underscores a clash between military discipline and First Amendment rights, with top Pentagon officials arguing that celebrating the killing of an American political figure is unacceptable conduct for service members — while Democrats counter that the crackdown risks punishing constitutionally protected speech. "Hunting down and prosecuting service members for their individual political beliefs is dangerous and un-American," Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., a former Army Ranger, wrote on X.

Something fundamental shifted in Britain on September 13, 2025. In the heart of London, a sea of flags unfurled and hundreds of thousands...no, millions of ordinary men and women marched together for an idea: That Britain must remain Britain, that its borders must be defended, and that its culture, heritage, and people deserve respect. Or else. Naturally, the mainstream press dutifully downplayed the numbers, claiming “just” 110,000 to 150,000 attended. But I was there, and I can assure you that nobody who was there believes it. It was far larger, at least one million, but probably nearer three. And it did not appear out of nowhere.

The order stays two July preliminary injunctions issued by Obama-appointed U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani, which blocked the defunding measure from going into effect.

The Trump administration is deploying cutting-edge artificial intelligence to conduct an unprecedented review of more than 55 million visa holders in what could become the largest immigration dragnet in U.S. history. But in practical terms, the unprecedented vetting process will likely target a far smaller pool than the number being floated publicly. It's a sort of psychological warfare designed to trigger mass self-deportations, a former State Department employee tells. "They don't need to scrub 55 million. They just need to say they are casting the net as extensively as possible, to encourage those who know they are ineligible, probably overstaying their visas, to self-deport before they are caught"
