The former New York Yankees first baseman and three-time MLB All-Star announced his campaign for Texas' 21st Congressional District in the U.S. House on Wednesday. Mark Teixeira, the most-hated man in the State of Maryland. Grew up in suburban Baltimore, drafted by the Rangers, traded to Atlanta and then the Angels. Through it all he claimed that what he really wanted in life was to play for his hometown team, the Orioles. In 2008 he got his chance via free agency, and after months of eager anticipation by the local fans and a $140 million offer from the Orioles he signed with the Yankees for more money. Needless to say, whenever he approached the plate in Camden Yards for the next 8 years the boos and cursing rained down from the stands without mercy. Fun story, but sounds like he's the right man at the right time for the job in Congress.

I remember Mark Teixeira from his early MLB days when he played for the Rangers. He seemed like a pretty upstanding, even keel kind of guy and very affable. Oh yeah, and he could play baseball too. Maybe after he left the future cesspool aka Baltimore he realized he didn't want to go back there when the opportunity arose later in his career, despite yearnings for his old stomping grounds. Who knows? If I could vote for him in his quest for the U.S. House I likely would, but alas he is not in my district. Hopefully he does well because President Trump needs more support in both chambers of Congress.

TX21, the district he seeks to represent, is just a few miles away from where I live (right now, I'm in TX15, but I'm going to be relocated into TX35, which will be one of the Republican pick-up districts. While Mark's probably a good candidate, I don't see where he has any connections to the area where the district is based (north San Antonio, New Braunfels, Kerrville). Wikipedia says he lives in Connecticut and he has ties to the DFW area from his play with the Texas Rangers. But that's 200 miles away.

Leguizamo blasted top Trump official Stephen Miller as a racist and architect of Trump's mass deportation policy, but Maher retorted that the last administration bore blame. "Part of this is a backlash to how badly Biden handled the immigration situation. It can't just be like ‘Come one, come all,’" Maher said.

One of the most powerful executives in the financial industry did not mince words when talking about the modern Democrat Party. Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase, absolutely went off on the political left, its terrible ideas, and even worse execution. "I have a lot of friends who are Democrats, and they’re idiots," Dimon said, per Bloomberg, while speaking at a foreign-ministry event in Ireland. "I always say they have big hearts and little brains. They do not understand how the real world works. Almost every single policy rolled out has failed," he added. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, suggested in a new interview that most people don’t vote the way she thinks they should because they are not properly informed. "Most people voted the wrong way because they were uneducated," Crockett said on The Jamal Bryant Podcast "Let’s Be Clear," released on Thursday. "And that's not to call them dumb," Crockett clarified, explaining that real life gets in the way. "You're trying to keep a roof over your head, keep food on the table, trying to make sure that your kids have what they need. And so you're not tuned in."

Kroft appeared on Paramount-owned Comedy Central to discuss the settlement with Stewart, who didn’t pull punches when discussing his own employer. Kroft, who retired from the show in 2019 after a 30-year run, said his former colleagues are devastated that CBS and its parent company settled Trump’s "election interference" lawsuit. "I think there is a lot of fear over there… fear of losing their job, fear of what’s happening to the country, fear of losing the First Amendment," Kroft said.

Democratic lawmakers say their voters are enraged at the lack of ability to counter President Donald Trump's agenda, with some saying they could resort to "violence," Axios reported Monday. The outlet says it spoke to over two dozen House Democrats to measure the temperature of the Democratic base. What it found was red-hot anger and a burgeoning desire to circumvent the rule of law, where explanations that Democrats simply don't hold enough power in Washington fall on deaf ears. "We've got people who are desperately wanting us to do something... no matter what we say, they want [more]," Rep. Brad Schneider, D-Ill., told the outlet.

Florida’s immigration jail known as “Alligator Alcatraz” will probably be empty of detainees within days, a state official has said, indicating compliance with a judge’s order last week that the facility must close. But in an email reported Wednesday by the Associated Press, Kevin Guthrie, executive director of the Florida department of emergency management, which operates the jail on behalf of the federal government, appeared to confirm it would be shuttered.

The black community’s disengagement from ordinary acts of civic responsibility is harming America as a whole, but mostly, it’s harming blacks. To save their communities, blacks need to reengage with what was once normative polite conduct across American society. To appreciate this point, consider the tales told by abandoned shopping carts and litter. [snip] Here’s the thing: Shopping carts and litter are just the most benign signs of conscientiousness and citizenship. The lack of such betrays itself in far more malignant ways as well, and we’re seeing that across the country, particularly in videos: Spirit Airlines airport counters. Six Flags parks.
