Will Newsom Rig His Redistricting Referendum?

Original Article

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has cast himself as a defender of democracy in the gerrymandering war that erupted after Texas Democrats fled the Lone Star State in a futile attempt to kill a GOP redistricting plan. This is obviously part of an ongoing effort to bolster his national profile ahead of a probable presidential run, but it has forced him to adopt an Orwellian position on redistricting. Newsom is telling Golden State voters that, to save democracy from Republicans, they must allow him to usurp the power of a redistricting commission they voted to create in a 2010 ballot initiative.

Can we bring back the old colonial custom of miscreants in the stocks with folks hurling rotten fruit and vegetables? I'd love to hit Gavin Baby square in the face with a big rotten tomato. TK and I voted for the Commission and even went to one of their regional meetings during the Tea Party days. We still get a lopsided representation, but we get more Republican votes every election. (Their level of cheating is the "tell".) That is why our erstwhile governor is, in essence, publicly admitting the Dems are losing control of California due to their total incompetence. As the wisdom of that childhood taunt taught us; cheaters never prosper. It just sometimes takes a little time. MAGA - MCGA, Make California Golden Again!

With polling showing 60% of the voters against this scheme Newsom isn’t launching this without a plan to defraud them. If he fails at this his Presidential aspirations are over.

More hypocrisy by the Democrats. Newsom wants to ignore the democratically approved initiative establishing a redistricting commission. This would allow the Democrats to further gerrymander California. This is supposed to save democracy in California, but destroy democracy if Texas does it. Do you hear yourself Gavin?

Robbie Woodland was skeptical of President Trump’s takeover of the District of Columbia until she spotted a patrol firsthand in Southeast. The lifelong Washingtonian watched as federal agents drove by without performing any jump-outs or other strong-arm police tactics of the sort she feared would target her predominantly Black neighbors living across the Anacostia River, a part of the nation’s capital long associated with high crime. When she took her focus off the patrol and looked at her surroundings, she noticed that the troublemakers who had become fixtures of her community were nowhere to be found.

f you're a working parent (or if you know one) then you already know—summer is one big juggling act. Yes, there can be joy in the mix with sunshine, sprinklers, and popsicles. But there are also child care gaps, tricky logistics, and the ever-mounting costs of it all. And in the middle of all that juggling, it can be really tough to also keep up with what's happening in Congress. You might hear something about a "One Big Beautiful Bill" on the news or overhear some political back-and-forth, but what does any of that actually mean for you and your juggling routine? Let's break it down.

I just recorded Sean Spicer's show, and as he always does with his panel, he asked for a winner of the week and a loser. For the latter, I picked Gavin Newsom, who is on a losing streak. As he flails around, looking for a way to gain more traction in the race to become the Democrats' nominee for president, Newsom is trying on a Donald Trump skin suit to see if that will work. Hey! Trump is winning, so why not emulate his style? (Snip for X post) Ah, Gavin, this is pathetic. When Pete Buttigieg, Mr. Vanilla, is beating you in the race to become president

Fateh made the statement during an interview with KARE 11 News in Minnesota, doubling down on his identity as a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, but denying his policies are "radical." "Day one, if you were elected, what would be some of your top two or three priorities for the city?" the reporter asked in an interview aired Friday. "The first I would say would be a hostile federal government, with not only Donald Trump in office,

It’s hardly a secret that the Democrats are in the midst of an existential crisis. They are leaderless, fractious, broke, and more unpopular with the voters than they have been in decades. Yet, as their antics have demonstrated during the first seven months of the second Trump administration, they don’t connect these calamities to their bad policies and worse execution. Instead, they attribute their ills to malevolent forces threatening “our democracy” and see themselves as its saviors. How will they rescue the republic? Former Clinton advisor James Carville laid out a blueprint last Wednesday.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this. A big, explosive controversy that’s impossible to ignore! A jaw-dropping confession that outraged his corporate bosses! Or maybe he’d finally suffer the consequences of speaking “truth to power” — and pay the ultimate price for refusing to back down! That’s how “The Howard Stern Show” was supposed to end. This November marks the 100th anniversary of TS Eliot’s haunting poem, “The Hollow Men.” It’s a telling coincidence, for it foretold not just the fate of the world, but of a certain shock-jock: “This is the way the [Howard Stern Show] ends; Now with a bang but a whimper.” This week, the news broke:

President Donald Trump has directed the Commerce Department to conduct a new census, one that counts citizens of the United States and omits illegal aliens. "I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024. People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump posted on Truth Social Thursday. The 2020 Census was alarmingly inaccurate, resulting in faulty congressional representation in Washington D.C.

Britain’s Labour government is in trouble: Its program of massive third-world immigration from places like Pakistan and Somalia is wildly, overwhelmingly unpopular. But that’s not the real problem. The real problem is that despite the best efforts of Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his leftist captive media, Britons themselves have discovered just how unpopular it is. You might think that’s absurd — if mass immigration is unpopular, how can everyone not know it? Everyone doesn’t know it because the government has been policing speech about immigration.

The corporate news media greeted the lackluster jobs report that dropped on August 1 with unabated glee, and savored President Trump’s complaints concerning its accuracy. They were less pleased, however, when he fired Commissioner of Labor Statistics Erika McEntarfer. The coverage of her termination was predictable. CNN, for example, went with the following headline: “Trump fires a senior official over jobs numbers.” In reality, McEntarfer’s termination was long overdue. She was a Biden appointee whose tenure at the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has been characterized by disarray.

It’s understandable, and rational, that the American people don’t trust the media. Time and time again the media have proven themselves to be untrustworthy. Still, I sometimes find myself wondering how different things might have been, how the press could have saved itself, had reporters just been willing to work with honor and walk down the painful road of introspection when they were wrong. That last phrase, “walk down the painful road of introspection,” is not my own. It belongs to Bob Woodward, the “legendary” Washington Post reporter. Woodward became famous for his coverage of Watergate in the 1970s. A lot of conservatives dislike Woodward, and I understand why.

It turns out many Americans aren’t great at identifying which personal decisions contribute most to climate change. A study recently published by the National Academy of Sciences found that when asked to rank actions, such as swapping a car that uses gasoline for an electric one, carpooling or reducing food waste, participants weren’t very accurate when assessing how much those actions contributed to climate change, which is caused mostly by the release of greenhouse gases that happen when fuels like gasoline, oil and coal are burned. “People over-assign impact to actually pretty low-impact actions such as recycling, and underestimate the actual carbon impact of behaviors much more carbon intensive,

It has always been hard to believe that the truck-bombing of the A.P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, which killed 168 people, including 19 children at a daycare center, was planned by just one or two perpetrators acting alone. However, the official story states that the mastermind was Gulf War veteran Timothy McVeigh, and that the two others sentenced with him only helped him in various ways. Right from the start, warning signs indicated that the investigation was being misled. The FBI developed a story claiming that a group called the Patriots Movement, which included anti-government extremists and white supremacists, was responsible for the attack.

The first, and possibly most controversial, question asked: “Did Jeffrey Epstein die by suicide or was he murdered?”
