Marius Borg Høiby, the son of the Norwegian crown princess, has been charged with 32 offences including four counts of rape, a prosecutor has said.
Høiby, whose mother is the crown princess, Mette-Marit, and whose stepfather is the crown prince, Haakon, Norway’s future king, is expected to stand trial early next year and could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty of the most serious charges. The charges, made public on Monday, include the rape of four different women, domestic abuse of a former partner, and illegally filming a number of women, including their genitals, without their knowledge or consent.

U.S. Attorney General for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced that an Indiana woman was arrested in D.C., charged with two federal crimes after she allegedly threatened to assassinate President Donald Trump. In a video posted on Monday on X, Pirro talked about the arrest in D.C. on Saturday, August 16, of Nathalie Rose Jones, 50, of Lafayette, Indiana, in D.C. Authorities said Jones traveled from New York to D.C., where she was taken into custody after she made a "series of threats on social media in which she threatened to kill President Trump."

In a stunning and alarming development, U.S. Attorney Judge Jeanine Pirro confirmed that a woman traveling from New York to Washington, D.C., was arrested for plotting to assassinate President Donald Trump. According to Pirro, the suspect “was working to have him eliminated.” She is now in custody and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This news comes just days after President Trump and Pirro launched a sweeping crackdown on crime and lawlessness in Washington, D.C., signaling their commitment to restoring order in a city that has spiraled into chaos under Democrat leadership.

A cargo ship exploded in Chesapeake Bay near Baltimore on Monday evening. “At this time, numerous emergency crews are responding to a cargo ship fire in the Baltimore Harbor on Chesapeake Bay, according to Maryland officials,” noted Rawsalerts. “The Baltimore City Fire Department reported that the ship caught fire in the Patapsco River near the site of the Key Bridge collapse.” “While initial reports described it as an explosion, officials clarified that the incident involved an under-deck fire that sent smoke billowing into the air. The fire has since been contained, and the vessel is being removed from the channel.

President Donald Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday didn’t yield the ceasefire deal Trump was hoping for, but there was apparently enough progress made that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and top European leaders are meeting with Trump in Washington today to discuss the possibility of peace negotiations and a deal to end to the war for good.
What might such a deal look like? Simply put, it would consist of territorial concessions in exchange for security agreements. Ukraine would cede portions of Russian-occupied territory in Crimea and the eastern provinces in exchange for a security alliance with the United States and European powers.

It turns out many Americans aren’t great at identifying which personal decisions contribute most to climate change.
A study recently published by the National Academy of Sciences found that when asked to rank actions, such as swapping a car that uses gasoline for an electric one, carpooling or reducing food waste, participants weren’t very accurate when assessing how much those actions contributed to climate change, which is caused mostly by the release of greenhouse gases that happen when fuels like gasoline, oil and coal are burned.
“People over-assign impact to actually pretty low-impact actions such as recycling, and underestimate the actual carbon impact of behaviors much more carbon intensive,

Yes, there can be joy in the mix with sunshine, sprinklers, and popsicles. But there are also child care gaps, tricky logistics, and the ever-mounting costs of it all. And in the middle of all that juggling, it can be really tough to also keep up with what's happening in Congress. You might hear something about a "One Big Beautiful Bill" on the news or overhear some political back-and-forth, but what does any of that actually mean for you and your juggling routine? President Donald Trump meets with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Monday, August 18.
The meeting comes following Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last Friday.
Trump famously ejected Zelensky from the White House earlier this year after a contentious meeting in which the Ukrainian president criticized the United States for pushing for peace. Trump warned Zelensky he was “gambling with World War 3” by advocating for an expansion of his country’s defensive war with Russia.
The president will also meet with other European leaders alongside Zelensky later Monday.

Has anyone noticed the incredible scrutiny that left-wing propaganda bureaus (formerly known as “news media”) give to every little disease outbreak?
Let’s take measles, for example. It’s a virtually harmless childhood disease. You get measles once, and you’re immune for life.
When I was a child, whenever any of our friends got the measles, it was time for a slumber party. All the kids who weren’t immune from previous outbreaks got the measles, and stayed home from school for a few days.
Our parents planned it that way. Development of the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine in the 1970s put an end to this “abusive” practice. Nowadays, measles outbreaks are front-page news.

At the August 15 Alaska summit, Vladimir Putin performed as expected. He desperately wants an end to Western sanctions, détente with the U.S., and assurances that the U.S. will not impose a disastrous anti-Russian secondary boycott—and, apparently, some additional Ukrainian territory. Consequently, Putin, in his media synopsis, talked more about restored friendship with a “neighborly” United States under Trump. He scarcely mentioned Ukraine directly—other than to imply to Westerners that he seeks not merely to annex a foreign country, but to reclaim what he views as a former Soviet province with ancient ties to the Russian people.

Trump called for Ukraine to drop its bid to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), a demand long held by Russia, and also said there would be “no getting back” Crimea – signaling to the nation to accept Russia’s illegal 2014 annexation of the region during the Obama administration.

The candidate with the most votes, however, turned out to be a surprise: centre-right senator Rodrigo Paz Pereira, 57, who had started the campaign with just 3% support in opinion polls.
In second came Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga, 65, a rightwing former president who briefly led the country in 2001 after the resignation of ex-dictator Hugo Banzer.

For supporters of the leftwing, worker-led political ideology, last weekend’s annual democratic socialists of America national convention in Chicago, which welcomed tens of thousands of politically minded individuals from across the country to the unionized McCormick Place convention center, was further recognition of the growing influence of the DSA, the country’s largest socialist organization, founded in 1982.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has outdone herself.
At a time when violent crime, illegal immigration, and public safety dominate national concerns, the governor of New York decided her top priority was granting clemency to an illegal immigrant with a manslaughter conviction. Yes, you read that correctly.
Hochul pardoned Somchith Vatthanavong, a 52-year-old illegal immigrant who was convicted as a teenager of killing a man in a Brooklyn pool hall. By offering him a pardon, Hochul effectively cleared the path for him to stay in the United States and avoid deportation.
Vatthanavong shot and killed a man outside that pool hall in 1990. He called it self-defense.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has cast himself as a defender of democracy in the gerrymandering war that erupted after Texas Democrats fled the Lone Star State in a futile attempt to kill a GOP redistricting plan. This is obviously part of an ongoing effort to bolster his national profile ahead of a probable presidential run, but it has forced him to adopt an Orwellian position on redistricting. Newsom is telling Golden State voters that, to save democracy from Republicans, they must allow him to usurp the power of a redistricting commission they voted to create in a 2010 ballot initiative.
