The Ukraine War Was Always Going To End

President Donald Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday didn’t yield the ceasefire deal Trump was hoping for, but there was apparently enough progress made that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and top European leaders are meeting with Trump in Washington today to discuss the possibility of peace negotiations and a deal to end to the war for good. What might such a deal look like? Simply put, it would consist of territorial concessions in exchange for security agreements. Ukraine would cede portions of Russian-occupied territory in Crimea and the eastern provinces in exchange for a security alliance with the United States and European powers.

'The Ukraine War Was Always Going To End This Way' What makes you think it's ending? The question for both Putin and Zelensky is what is it going to take for either of them to relinquish their claim over the disputed parts of Ukraine. Neither of them are ready for that. Why did Russia start the war? One word: Money. A strong US might have been a deterrent. When the war is no longer worth it they will talk peace. Sadly, both sides are ready to pay a high price.

Those who study history recall "peace in our time", a quote most famously associated with Neville Chamberlain, the British Prime Minister, following the Munich Agreement in 1938. He used the phrase to describe the agreement which aimed to appease Adolf Hitler by allowing Germany to annex the Sudetenland. The agreement was intended to prevent a wider European war, but it is now widely regarded as a failed attempt at appeasement. I am no fan of Zelensky because he is crooked as can be and laundered dirty money for the Biden family, but his country was invaded and now he is asked to give up his land to the people who invaded and occupied it. Putin looks like the winner on this one.

I don’t see how it’s in Russia’s interest to have EU troops on the border.

Uh, no, Trump was not hoping for a cease-fire deal, he wants actual peace. The concessions will not affect the outcome but economic reality will. Putin is holding a hand that is Jack-high but Zelenskyy is sitting with a pile of three chips. The game is ending.

If you need a laugh, try to imagine Joe Biden or any recent president holding court in the way Donald Trump is doing it. To double the laugh, try to imagine any of the current presidential wannabes sitting in the big chair in the Oval Office. It’s an impossible exercise because of how dramatically Trump is redefining what it means to be president of the United States. His talents are vast and uniquely suited to the role he has created. For the most recent and dramatic example, take Monday’s historic meeting of European leaders about Russia’s unrelenting invasion of Ukraine.

The historic peace summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin took place this weekend in Alaska, with the two nations coming somewhat closer to achieving a lasting peace in Ukraine. Those who had hoped this meeting would result in an immediate end to the conflict were left disappointed; however, top U.S. diplomat and negotiator Steve Witkoff said that Putin had agreed Ukraine would receive a NATO-esque protection guarantee, which would protect Ukraine from further Russian aggression after the war. That’s a key component of any peace agreement — Ukraine can’t simply agree to lose some territory now if

Marius Borg Høiby, the son of the Norwegian crown princess, has been charged with 32 offences including four counts of rape, a prosecutor has said. Høiby, whose mother is the crown princess, Mette-Marit, and whose stepfather is the crown prince, Haakon, Norway’s future king, is expected to stand trial early next year and could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty of the most serious charges. The charges, made public on Monday, include the rape of four different women, domestic abuse of a former partner, and illegally filming a number of women, including their genitals, without their knowledge or consent.

Terrifying video shows the moment a minivan ploughed into a tractor-trailer making an outrageous rogue U-turn on a Florida highway last week — with all three people in the van killed and the truck’s illegal-migrant driver charged with homicide. The roadway horror happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday on the Florida Turnpike near Fort Pierce when the tractor-trailer driven by suspect Harjinder Singh made a hard left turn across the highway and attempted to cross the median through an “Official Use Only” pass, authorities said.

At the August 15 Alaska summit, Vladimir Putin performed as expected. He desperately wants an end to Western sanctions, détente with the U.S., and assurances that the U.S. will not impose a disastrous anti-Russian secondary boycott—and, apparently, some additional Ukrainian territory. Consequently, Putin, in his media synopsis, talked more about restored friendship with a “neighborly” United States under Trump. He scarcely mentioned Ukraine directly—other than to imply to Westerners that he seeks not merely to annex a foreign country, but to reclaim what he views as a former Soviet province with ancient ties to the Russian people.

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill has revealed he planned to leave the United States when Donald Trump was re-elected as president in 2024. The 73-year-old, known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the iconic sci-fi franchise, gave his wife Marilou Tork – whom he married in 1978 – the choice between relocating to “London or Ireland. Hamill’s wife, who worked as a dental hygienist and met Hamill while cleaning his teeth, ingeniously convinced her husband not to move countries by suggesting Trump was pushing them out of the US. “She’s very clever. Barack Obama is the new Nixon. There, I wrote it down and my name is on it. It’s not publicly approved speech yet, but it is no longer the Thought Crime it once was. Many Americans are thinking it. And some, like me, are saying out loud. Barack Obama is our modern Nixon figure. Worse than Nixon, actually. Nixon was considered devious. He was presented as demon by The Washington Post and most of the rest of American journalism as the devil who had to be crushed, his followers subjected to never ending ridicule, his political party was sent on a Walk of Shame.

In December of 2016, just before the unthinkable was about to happen in the form of Donald Trump becoming president, Director of the National Security Agency Mike Rogers emailed then Director of National Intelligence James Clapper with concerns he had over a report outlining Trump’s ties to Russia.

Gather round the campfire, children, and let me tell you a scary story about the annual ritual humiliation known as the Presidential Fitness Test. Long before SoulCycle, the social internet, and the everyone-gets-a-trophy ethos that allegedly remade millennials into a generation of coddled, spherical slobs, the youth of the nation were summoned each spring to the school gymnasium and put through the rigors of seven exercises designed to measure our strength, our stamina, and our flexibility. Sit-ups. Pull-ups. Push-ups—knees down for the girls, full planks for the boys. Until, finally, we were herded out the rear of the gym, down a back

The hurricane’s behavior in recent days makes it one of the fastest-strengthening Atlantic hurricanes on record and yet another indication that climate change is increasing the risk of rapidly intensifying storms. Erin became the first hurricane of this year’s Atlantic season Friday and exploded in strength from a Category 1 into a Category 5 storm in a little over 24 hours. Even after it weakened and re-strengthened into a Category 4 storm, Erin’s jaw-dropping transformation ranks it among the five storms

Was the FBI Behind the Oklahoma Bombing? 24 replies

It has always been hard to believe that the truck-bombing of the A.P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, which killed 168 people, including 19 children at a daycare center, was planned by just one or two perpetrators acting alone. However, the official story states that the mastermind was Gulf War veteran Timothy McVeigh, and that the two others sentenced with him only helped him in various ways. Right from the start, warning signs indicated that the investigation was being misled. The FBI developed a story claiming that a group called the Patriots Movement, which included anti-government extremists and white supremacists, was responsible for the attack.

Mark Hamill, the man most famous for playing the character of Luke Skywalker, recently admitted that he nearly packed his bags after Donald Trump won re-election in 2024. Apparently, the thought of another Trump term sent the actor spiraling into the dark side, ready to abandon this country altogether. He even floated the idea past his wife, Marilou York, offering her a choice between moving to London or settling in Ireland. It's a bold proclamation on its surface, but like so many of Hollywood’s political temper tantrums, it ended in retreat.

Hamas has apparently accepted the terms of a ceasefire deal similar to one that was proposed last month but never put in place. Basem Naim, a senior member of Hamas’ political bureau, said on social media, “The movement has accepted the new proposal from the mediators. We pray that God extinguishes the fires of this war on our people.”
