Businesses Aren’t Fountainheads

Consumers see businesses as partners in transactions they have voluntarily chosen to take part in. They might not always be happy with the exchanges they make, but they generally understand that they are making a tradeoff that benefits both parties.  Policymakers, however, far too often see businesses as endless sources of money to fund their agendas.  On occasion, businesses will reach a breaking point. So they defend their interests, as some in Los Angeles are doing. A coalition has launched a June 2026 ballot measure to repeal the gross receipts tax, which is levied on business revenues, not profits (and is often passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices).

And they wonder why successful businesses pack up and move away. At some point the taxes are too onerous to make it worth the effort.

The thing is, DemoRoids think everything you have is actually the governments, and they decide how much they let you keep.

Half of any business income goes to some governmental authority. Half of administrative time is spent on governmental compliance issues.

Earlier this month, Customs and Border Protection recorded fewer than 7,832 illegal border crossings in July. That’s a staggering number when you consider that the 25-year average for that month is 76,000. Even more staggering is that this should never have happened. At least, not if you believed President Joe “Autopen” Biden. For four years straight, Biden and his minions told the American public either that the border was secure, or that the problem was impossible to fix due to Republican intransigence, or some combination of the two. Here, for the record, is a sampling:

The Press Is Lying About D.C. Crime 8 replies

We’ve come to expect that no matter what President Donald Trump says or does these days, the mainstream press will rush out to say he’s wrong. So, we weren’t the least bit surprised when, after Trump said crime in the nation’s capital is out of control and called in the National Guard, news outlets immediately dismissed his claims. But who is doing the lying here? Crime in D.C. “is getting worse, not getting better,” Trump said. Nonsense came the chorus of press reports, with headlines such as: “Fact check: Violent crime in DC has fallen in 2024 and 2025 after a 2023 spike” said CNN.

Yesterday, President Donald Trump nominated a high-profile critic of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, EJ Antoni, to be its new commissioner, promising on Truth Social that under his leadership “the Numbers released are HONEST and ACCURATE.” If confirmed, Antoni, currently chief economist at the Heritage Foundation, has his work cut out for him. Last week, we pointed out glaring mistakes the Bureau of Labor Statistics had made in recent years and asked whether its foul-ups were driven by politics or ineptitude. The issue came to a head after President Donald Trump fired the head of the BLS in the

Amid new revelations, spurious Russia collusion charges against President Trump have become both a major scandal and a grand jury investigation. Do voters want top spies in former President Obama’s administration investigated? Yes, the I&I/TIPP Poll shows. The national online poll was conducted from July 30-Aug. 1, with 1,362 adults taking part. The poll’s margin of error is +/-2.7 percentage points. I&I/TIPP asked a total of five questions about what has been called “the dirtiest political trick in history,” and worse. The first question asked: “Do you believe the Obama administration deliberately fabricated the Trump–Russia collusion narrative

Consider what has transpired in the past few weeks and ask yourself which political party is acting like petulant children. Earlier this year, the Justice Department found that four Texas districts drawn in 2021 are “unconstitutionally racially biased” because they violate the equal protection clause and “must be rectified immediately.” Hans von Spakovsky, an election law expert at the Heritage Foundation, notes that not only did those Texas districts violate the Constitution, but the boundaries they drew in 2021 were based on faulty 2020 Census data, which had missed half a million Texans, and didn’t reflect the influx of 2 million people over the past five years.

We’ve been told for decades that working for the government is a calling, a service to society not unlike being called into the ministry or feeling an obligation to teach the next generation of Americans. If so, why do public employees need unions? Maybe in our lifetimes we’ll see public-sector unions reduced to the rubble they should have been crushed into decades ago. Government workers aren’t angels and their union affiliations aren’t sacred. The country would be better off with far fewer of the former and none of the latter. To this end, President Donald Trump issued an executive order in March that barred agencies that have national security missions

We thought President Donald Trump was merely another Hitler. But, no, he’s also another Mao and another Stalin. Next he’ll be on his way to becoming Beelzebub himself, unless the climate fanatics can finally get a hold of themselves. In one of the more maniacal rants we have seen, Rep. Sean Casten, an Illinois Democrat, swore before hundreds of millions that the administration’s dropping of the Obama-era Environmental Protection Agency’s carbon dioxide endangerment finding is an act of mass murder. Seems to be a lot to put on an administrative order that reverses the EPA’s ability to regulate CO2,

As soon as President Donald Trump announced that he was firing Erika McEntarfer from her job as commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the wailing and gnashing of teeth began. This was part of an “authoritarian playbook,” it was “Orwellian,” it was “preposterous.” The correct response is, “long overdue.” Even for government work, the BLS has been breathtakingly bad at its job, something we’ve been reporting on this space for years. Back in 2023, we noted that the BLS had been vastly overcounting jobs created since Joe

President Donald Trump has told Canada that if it recognizes Palestine as a state, it’s jeopardizing a trade pact with the U.S. The threat is more than leverage for talks. It’s a reminder that the West is giving up on civilization and needs to be rousted from its slumber. “Canada has just announced that it is backing statehood for Palestine,” Trump wrote Thursday on Truth Social. “That will make it very hard for us to make a trade deal with them.” Canada is not the only Western nation that feels the need to recognize the terrorist-controlled Gaza Strip,

I received such an outpouring of comments to my recent bad T.V. and cable ads article that I thought I’d give this another shot. Currently, there are so many bad ads I had no problem finding truly dreadful examples. First, let’s check out an ad campaign that worked, American Eagle’s ads featuring Sydney Sweeney, a popular young Hollywood actress. Apparently, she not only has good genes, but good jeans. When those American Eagle Sydney Has Great Jeans ads broke a couple of weeks ago, three things happened. Immediately, the “progressive left” predictably lost their minds, flooding TikTok and YouTube with screaming video fits, calling Sydney a Nazi while claiming

By all accounts, even those of liberal media outlets, the Democratic National Committee is broke. Under the leadership of chairman Ken Martin, the DNC is facing a full-blown financial crisis. But how did it come to this? Well, donor flight is one part of the answer. Since President Trump and J.D. Vance took office in a historic victory, the DNC's once-reliable donor class has slammed the brakes on contributions. But the bigger story, and one the mainstream press won't touch, is that a critical pipeline of cash has been shut off: the massive taxpayer-funded slush fund known as USAID.

Neighbors near Northeast Main Street and 11th Avenue Northeast say seemingly every window was smashed, with dozens of vehicles hit. They also say thieves targeted the same area just three weeks ago. They worry they’re using too much water to brush their teeth, they can’t take a vacation because the emissions from the car or plane will cause the demise of us all, and the CO2 they emit with each breath spells disaster. They constantly fret over the consumption of meat, the use of everyday household appliances that make our lives better, and any other progress that has brought our civilization into the 21st Century.

This connection reveals how classified intelligence was weaponized to target Donald Trump. We’ve already talked about how recently declassified documents confirm the Trump-Russia collusion hoax was a deliberate political hit job, which Barack Obama approved in coordination with Clinton’s 2016 campaign. But things are so much worse. As PJ Media previously reported, then-congressman Schiff was the architect behind the deliberate leaking of classified information aimed at smearing Trump
