Peace after conquest

The Armenia–Azerbaijan peace summit can be claimed as the most significant achievement of President Donald Trump’s second-term foreign policy. As his administration constantly reminds us, Trump, a man chasing the ever-elusive Nobel Peace Prize, is the “peace president”—so much so that he is seeking peace in the badlands of Eastern Europe/Western Asia, where three Huntingtonian civilizational blocs (Western, Islamic, and Orthodox) clash, and in the chronically bloody Middle East. The admin also reminds us that he has settled wars between Thailand and Cambodia (true), India and Pakistan (debatable), and a variety of African ethnic groups (partially true).

Comments:

His argument is that it' s all about power, and best to set religion aside. He is wrong. I remember people saying exactly that about Lebanon in the early 1990s, that they had got rich by being religiously indifferent. That did not go well, and while I wish all tpeace and success to the parties to this agreement , the peace won' t come because they ignored God but because in different ways everybody here is devoted. Erdogan indifferent? ru kidding? The Armenians, they wrote to Jesus before he died telling him they knew the Jews were giving him a bad time and he could come to them. And Azerbaijan? They love God too. I was there. Interestingly, they are where I found out Islam loves Mary the Mother of Jesus..

Giving him the Peace Prize would burnish it beyond its worth.

How is Trump running around chasing after the ever elusive Nobel Peace Prize? Cheap shot by the article's author. So let's now talk about Obama's Nobel peace prize...

I doubt that DJT is 'running around' anywhere chasing the Nobel. I doubt he even thinks much about it, if at all. It's also not worth anything now, considering who they have given it to in the past.

Donald Trump has signed a new executive order launching what he called the “first ever self-deportation programme,” allowing undocumented immigrants to leave the United States at no cost, with flights booked via a new government-backed app. In a video posted on Truth Social, the president said: “Today I signed an executive order to launch the first ever self-deportation program for illegal aliens. We are making it as easy as possible for illegal aliens to leave America. Any illegal alien can simply show up at an airport and receive a free flight out of our country.”

The Catholic Church has vowed to excommunicate any priest who follows a new Washington state law requiring clergy to report information about child abuse to law enforcement — even if given in the privacy of the confession booth. Priests in the Evergreen State had enjoyed something similar to attorney-client privilege when hearing confessions, but the new law — which Democratic Gov. Bob Ferguson signed on Friday — revokes that protection for discussions of child abuse or neglect.

The Supreme Court’s double standard suggests it is not prudence dictating the outcome. It is also not the Constitution..... “Both the Executive and the Judiciary have an obligation to follow the law.” Those thirteen words, penned by Justice Samuel Alito on Holy Saturday, represent the first admission by the judiciary that courts too can wrongly flout the law. Justice Alito’s stark acknowledgement concluded his bullet-point evisceration of the Supreme Court’s “unprecedented” command ....

More information now on how a potential ceasefire deal would look. Revealing some potential details of the agreement, a Palestinian official told the BBC that "the detailed technical discussions took considerable time". Both sides agreed that Hamas would release three hostages on the first day of the agreement, after which Israel would begin withdrawing troops from populated areas. Seven days later, Hamas would release four additional hostages, and Israel would allow displaced people in the south to return to the north, but only on foot via the coastal road.

Hamas is expected to release 33 hostages during the first phase of an emerging ceasefire agreement being finalized by negotiators in Doha, two Israeli officials said, the first positive sign in months that a truce in the Israel-Hamas war may be in sight. Officials have expressed cautious optimism that a deal could soon be announced to halt 15 months of fighting that has destabilized the Middle East and devastated Gaza, allow for more aid into the besieged Palestinian enclave, and ensure the return of dozens of hostages held by Hamas since its attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is planning to use Tesla Cybertrucks and Starlink technology to provide free internet to areas devastated by wildfires in California. Musk, who is the CEO of both Tesla and Starlink, wrote in a post on X, another one of his companies, that Cybertruck deliveries would be delayed over the next few days. "Apologies to those expecting Cybertruck deliveries in California over the next few days," he wrote. "We need to use those trucks as mobile base stations to provide power to Starlink Internet terminals in areas of LA without connectivity. A new truck will be delivered end of week."

(Reuters) - A U.S. government weather forecaster expects an about 60% chance of the La Nina weather pattern characterized by unusually cold temperatures in the Pacific Ocean emerging in the second half of 2024. There is an 85% chance that a transition from El Niño to ENSO-neutral is likely to occur by April-June, National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center (CPC) said in a monthly forecast on Thursday. "The end of El Nino would take away the vertical wind shear that tends to reduce the number of storms in the Atlantic basin. Further, warm ocean temperatures should facilitate the formation of stronger storms," Citi Research said in a note.

They worry they’re using too much water to brush their teeth, they can’t take a vacation because the emissions from the car or plane will cause the demise of us all, and the CO2 they emit with each breath spells disaster.
