Irony is a term whose meaning is elusive and which escapes precise definition. A lot of people think they know what it means when they actually don’t. About the best that can be said is that irony is the quality of a situation in which not only are prospects ruined and even reversed, but done so resoundingly – irony not only wrecks your plans, but does so while turning you into an object lesson. Irony occurs when the postman rings twice for the drifter Frank Chambers, who is arrested, tried, and executed not for the murder he unquestionably committed, but for the accidental death over which he had no responsibility.

I missed Rachel K. Paulose’s column about George Floyd—sorry, Saint George Floyd—when it appeared in The Spectator World at the end of May. Knowing of my interest in the case, a public-spirited individual brought the column to my attention. I thought it was an appalling regurgitation of the established, but erroneous, narrative about the larcenous, drug-and-woman-abusing miscreant George Floyd and the former police officer primarily involved in his arrest.

Democrats have been wetting themselves over the past week about the idea of Texas redistricting their Congressional seats like, well, Democrats have in the states they control. They can’t handle it; they won’t handle it. Honestly, I don’t care. As Democrats flee Texas like roaches when the light is flipped on, let them destroy it all. We had a good run, right? There comes a time when it is simply no longer worth it, doesn’t there? I mean, 249 years is a pretty good run for a republic. They’re usually destroyed by leftists looking to do things with government power long before now.
Rachel Maddow is at it again — eyes to the heavens, voice quivering, as if she’s about to narrate the final act of a Ken Burns documentary entitled “America: The Dark Years.”
This week’s cliffhanger? “We have a consolidating dictatorship in our country.”
In Maddow’s latest monologue, she painted Trump’s America as a police-state nightmare — “secret police” supposedly prowling for immigrants, civil life grinding to a halt, the entire nation undergoing a “profound” transformation in just six months. If you closed your eyes, you’d think she was describing Venezuela with better lighting.

Since the day that Israeli Jews were attacked, tortured, murdered, raped and burned to death on October 7, 2023, the entire world, save for a tiny minority, has vilified, excoriated, and blamed — ta-da! — the Jews! The victims!

A group of Catholic, pro-life demonstrators were repeatedly maced while holding a peaceful protest outside a Planned Parenthood facility in St. Paul, video shows.
During that rally, TFP members encouraged passersby to support the unborn and stand up against abortion.
....At one point, the woman told protestors, “I’ll mace the f— out y’all” and “Stop recording. I don’t consent to your recording.” Moments later, she sprayed mace at a TFP cameraman multiple times. The woman proceeded to walk by other TFP members saying, “Do you want to be maced?” and “I’m macing all of y’all!”
German economy in free fall

The German economy is sinking far deeper into recession than previously thought. Recent revisions to the national accounts by the Federal Statistical Office paint a dramatic picture.
Quietly and without fanfare, the Federal Statistical Office released new data this week on Germany’s economic output. And, as expected, the figures were revised downward. Instead of shrinking by 0.2% in 2023 as initially reported, Germany’s GDP actually contracted by 0.9%. The outlook for 2024 has also worsened: a projected contraction of 0.5% instead of the previously assumed stagnation.
