SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California lawmakers this week advanced several efforts aimed at reining in utility profits and slashing electricity bills as part of their agenda to tackle the sky-high costs of living. The proposals would make sweeping changes to how utilities fund expensive infrastructure projects like putting power lines underground to guard against wildfires. They also would add more oversight around wildfire mitigation spending and put new requirements on utility requests to increase rates. Supporters said the goal is to make the big investor-owned utilities start sharing some of the costs to fight wildfires and build new transmission infrastructure. “This

Sure, blame it on the profits... Maybe if they weren't so hamstrung with regulations and taxes, prices could be held at a reasonable level. Wait, let's shut down some generating stations, to save Mother Earth.

California of the east Maryland isn't far behind. After years of banning any new power plants and closing those that use coal because phony climate claims, Maryland now imports close to 50% of its power from other states which charge more for electric for doing so. Now everyone's electric bill is going up as a result. Demosluts running this state have no plan to increase power generation, but cling to the global warming narrative. The idiot voters of this state will continue to vote for demosluts expecting something to change. Is there anything demosluts don't screw up?

Have these geniuses checked out how much cheaper it is to produce electricity with nuclear power? And those wildfires are bad because the state won't manage the forests and open lands.

The only thing California government is doing is buying votes. That's not governing. Californians might want to invest in candles. Btw, the rise in utility prices is happening all over the country. That's what happens when the dollar gets de-valued. That's what happens when government (at all levels, both parties) spends your money and gets nothing back in return. And we the people keep voting them back in when we should be showing them the door.

So utilities have to use “public financing” and this would supposedly save ratepayers $8.8 billion. Except where, exactly does this “public financing” come from? Government has no money itself, it all comes from taxpayers in the end. Just another political cup game of trying to obfuscate where the money comes from.

Everything the Democrats have done for the last 20 plus years has greatly increased electricity costs, they have never done anything to lower costs. In summer, bills of over $1000 isn't unusual for those that run their AC a lot. I'm lucky being just a few miles from the cool Pacific it rarely gets into the 90s here and cools off at night. Where I work they used to do manufacturing here, 2 years ago they move the manufacturing to another state with lower electric bills.

I thought California was going to set utility rates based on income, where the "poor" would pay a low, flat fee while the "rich" (not including, of course, the favored and well-connected politically) would pay their "fair share". What's the problem with that? (Sarcasm key now turned OFF.)

Basically what the Democrats have done is use the utilities as their new "big tobacco" where they can blame them for everything and have them have to pay to fix the failure to have properly used forest management and brush clearing for decades. The utilities ends up obtaining the oversight approvals (same Democrats) to increase their prices to cover X, Y and Z. No one ends up looking like they failed to do their job and the boogie man is the utility company not some liberal Democrat policy that was demanded by the extremely liberal environmental groups for the past 40+ years.

The utility rates in Calif have to be ok'd by the politicians. The politicians in Calif (super majority Democrat for many years) instructed PG&E to work on 'green energy' NOT to spend the research and develop money on improving the electrical grid or improving the transmission lines. Much of Calif has overhead lines which have led to many of the wildfires, along with poor forest management. I don't understand why the citizens of Calif don't realize the Democrats are screwing us and have been for decades.

It sounds like the California Democrats are rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, again! They insist using costly, unreliable wind and solar power and refusing to build reliable fossil, nuclear, and hydro power plants resulting in power shortages requiring power to be supplied by other states at premium prices. Unable to meet existing demand, they are adding to increasing demand by mandating EVs and all electric appliances. Failure to do proper forestry management results in increasingly destructive forest fires that destroys power distribution infrastructure. None of this is being addressed by the proposed legislation.

William Sullivan’s essay regarding scientific atheism is intriguing and enlightening. It got me thinking about a very simple proof for a Creator. The atheist loves to proclaim, “There is no scientific proof of the existence of God!” This is true, since by “scientific” proof, the atheist means “empirical” proof, and there is no empirical proof of anything. However, it is quite easy to use logic to prove in easy steps that God exists and that He is the God of the Bible. 1. Every existing thing either is or is not existentially dependent upon the action of other beings. Those beings that are existentially dependent are called “contingent.” A being that is not
