St. Louis' Emergency Management Director
Placed on Leave After She Forgot to Sound
Tornado Alarm

Original Article

I have no idea how to comprehend this act of incompetence. Last Friday, severe storms rolled into St. Louis. A tornado touched down and struck the northern part of the city—and there were no warning sirens. The tornado alarm system was never activated. It wasn’t due to a computer glitch. It was human error: the emergency management director, Sarah Russell, essentially forgot to turn it on, but it gets worse: the staff wasn’t even in the office. Russell contacted the fire department to initiate the system, but this was a shambolic failure

Comments:

Incompetence used to be somewhat rare, but with various programs in place, we seem to be ignoring skill and competence.

#8 Maybe it was how to push the siren button when a tornado is coming? I saw the Mayor on a Reels on FB and she was in tears after being in so many homes with so many in need on the north side. Scavengers are already coming in to pick up bricks. They are telling the people not to sell their bricks, use them to rebuild your home. Such a sad situation.

The Department of Homeland Security and congressional judiciary committees are probing whether O’Connell used federal tax dollars “in criminal enterprise” related to illegal immigration, Tennessee Rep. The progressive mayor had condemned a huge Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation that nabbed immigrants — many criminals with gang affiliations — and then signed an executive order making city staff report all communications they have with agents.

Apocalyptic cults provide a window on some amazing complex group dynamics. First, of course is the "apocalyptic" part. This is what they are best known for -- the world is going to end next Tuesday or the aliens will be arriving the first of the month to take the chosen to space heaven, or a hundred other crazed ideas. The cults preach that the only way to “escape this impending doom is by joining the group, adhering to its leader's teachings, and following its prescribed rituals.” For the Democrat party, the most recent apocalyptic tale is of course the horrors of climate change.

Apparently, nobody’s watching the watchmen. Several commuters could be seen walking up to the gate, and exchanging words with the guard, who then let them in. Whenever the guard opened the door, other fare-evaders would make a dash for it. “Whenever the gate opens, nobody wants to pay,” offered Allied Guard

WASHINGTON — A federal court on Wednesday blocked President Donald Trump from imposing sweeping tariffs on imports under an emergency-powers law, swiftly throwing into doubt Trump’s signature set of economic policies that have rattled global financial markets, frustrated trade partners and raised broader fears about inflation intensifying and the economy slumping. The ruling from a three-judge panel at the New York-based U.S. Court of International Trade came after several lawsuits arguing Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs exceeded his authority and left the country’s trade policy dependent on his whims. Trump has repeatedly said the tariffs would force manufacturers to bring back factory jobs to the U.S.

As Americans began to prepare for Memorial Day weekend, the Supreme Court quietly handed President Donald Trump a significant victory in the fight to rein in the rogue D.C. bureaucracy. In a short, two-page order, the court stayed a district court order that directed Trump to reinstate two federal officials whom he had fired. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett voted for the stay. Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented. The obvious effect is that the two officials (Snip) cannot retake their positions in either agency unless they win their lawsuits.
