Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend peace talks in Turkey Thursday even though Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had earlier said he was willing to sit down face-to-face with the pugilistic strongman to try to negotiate an end to the brutal Russia-Ukraine war that has raged on since the Russian Federation invaded its neighbor in February 2022. Although U.S President Donald Trump had hinted that he might show up if things looked promising, he has now nixed those plans, considering Putin will be a no-show:

One or both sides still think they can win the war. They are trying to win the war at the diplomacy table as well as on the battlefield. Meanwhile, both sides continue to feed the meatgrinder. Somewhere the devil is laughing.

I don't think either one of them wants the war to end. Zelensky has been lining his pockets with money the U.S. gave him during Biden's term but he doesn't have anything to blackmail Trump with so that he keeps doing the same. Putin doesn't care how many Russians or Ukrainians die. He just wants power and doesn't want the world to see him backing down about anything. He is a truly evil man.

How many times do we have to see that Putin has ZERO interest in peace. He started this war, and he wants to continue this war. He only wants to use these "peace talks" to work out some military advantage while NOT agreeing to anything other than gaining more land from Ukraine without having to take it by force.

Putin may be a LOT of things, but he is no "chicken". More likely it is because Zelenski made easily half a dozen "Mineral deal announcements" resulting in massive media coverage, numerous visits by/to high level meets...then crawfished and didn't sign them. PS: Crimea will not be returned to Ukraine. It will remain part of Russia, or continue as a free state.(Just as Israel will not give up lands to the "Palestinians" and "Return" to 1967 borders)

I have Ukraine war fatigue. I don't know any Ukrainians. I don't know any Russians. My grandson's piano teacher is one or the other. These borders have been unsettled for centuries. I don't care where the lines go. I DO care that people are being killed who simply want peace. I DO care that our own country has an affordable housing crisis, that there is a doctor shortage and that our Congress thinks health care is "buying health insurance and drugs".

We expect Russia to accept something analogous to China integrating Mexico into its economic sphere of influence after staging its own color revolution. Europe is the seat of neoliberal expansionist economic hegemony-- the uncontrolled concentration of wealth into the hands of a few powerful corporations and families. They leverage that wealth to manipulate supply of critical resources and markets to extract maximum profits. The Russian Federation is not the Soviet Union, but since the latter's collapse, US and NATO's policy has been to dismantle Russia piece by piece. We have spent billions to maintain the investments of a few dynastic families--the Clintons, the Bidens, the Bushes, the Obamas. Biden blew up a gas line that cost a trillion to which would have been an artery to Germany's energy needs.

In a previous column, I detailed Michael Mann’s unraveling legal crusade, focusing on his courtroom defeat and the staggering financial penalty levied against him. Readers' responses were passionate, particularly about the absence of commentary on Mark Steyn. Let me be direct: the omission was intentional. The Mann saga deserved focus, and Steyn’s fight deserves its own chapter. This is that chapter. Author, broadcaster, and unflinching cultural critic Mark Steyn did not merely weather a defamation trial. He survived it physically, financially, and morally when most would have buckled under the strain. What began as a battle over words became a battle over the soul of free speech.

A former National Guard member from Melvindale, Michigan, near Dearborn, was busted for attempting a mass shooting at a base in nearby Warren, Mich. Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, 19, was arrested and charged with providing training and materiel to undercover federal agents. Investigators claim the planned attack is related to ISIS. The plan was to launch a mass shooting at the U.S. Army’s Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM) facility just north of Detroit. This is not a military base but more of an Army facility. Said not only provided ammunition, magazines, firebombs, and weapons training to undercover agents,

As Pete Buttigieg attempts to stand up a 2028 presidential campaign by growing a patchy beard, he might want to consider that his record could be a major liability. On Wednesday, it was revealed that a key hotline between the Pentagon and the air traffic control at Washington National Airport has been inoperative since 2022. But what would have been a mundane failure turned deadly in January when a military helicopter collided with a regional airliner, killing 67 people. That phone line would have typically been used by the Department of Defense to report when its aircraft were in the vicinity and what their intentions were.

It’s always amusing when someone who has not been an active conservative and free marketer for over 40 years and did not run his own small business for nearly 30 years, as I have, gets accused of being a socialist because he refuses to pretend that the world is not as it is. I like free enterprise. It’s in my blood – everyone in my nuclear family had his/her own business. The Biden administration claimed to have added almost 400,000 jobs from July through September of last year, but new data released this week suggest none of those jobs ever existed. Despite constantly gaslighting by the mainstream media, Americans knew the economy was in poor shape and these latest numbers prove it. Month after month, the government bean-counters under former-president Biden published overly optimistic estimates for everything from job growth to the size of the economy, only to have those numbers routinely—and quietly—revised down later. Every month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) produces estimates for the number of nonfarm payrolls in the country,

It’s a fool’s game to try to predict President Trump’s audacious new moves. Tommy Vietor was the latest to learn this. He posted that it was “really scary” that hostilities between India and Pakistan were escalating and that Trump was “completely asleep at the wheel.” Twelve hours later Trump announced he’d mediated a peace deal between the two countries. In Lebanon he has acted to substantially cut off Hezb’allah’s supply and revenue sources, making it more likely that country’s civilian government will be able to reassert control and enhance the peace of the area. The Ivy League institution in Manhattan placed more than 65 students on interim suspension and barred 33 others, including those from affiliated institutions such as Barnard College, from setting foot on campus. Interim suspension generally means that a student cannot come to campus, attend classes or participate in other university activities, according to Columbia’s website. Far from helping to end the war in Ukraine, all the indications suggest that US President Donald Trump's mediation efforts are not only prolonging the conflict, but increasing the likelihood that Russia will ultimately emerge victorious. Indeed, far from showing any interest in ending Russia's military offensive in Ukraine, the Russian leader has given every intention that he intends to continue fighting until victory has been achieved. Nor does there appear to be any serious prospect that Trump will be willing to hit the Kremlin with further sanctions, let alone military encouragement, if it fails to show any serious interest in peace negotiations.

North Korea, the Hermit Kingdom so fond of choreographed triumphs and goose-stepping grandeur, recently tried launching a 5,000-ton “stealth” destroyer, only to have it tip sideways into the sea like a child’s bathtub toy. This wasn’t just a mishap. It was a symbolic faceplant: the world’s most belligerent pariah state, fresh off a backroom weapons-for-bodies deal with Vladimir Putin, found its supposed symbol of strength literally sideways and broken. State media said the the 5,000-ton ship, which had been due to enter service next year, is designed to carry weapons systems including nuclear-capable ballistic and cruise missiles.
