Chicago was founded by fur traders. Now, it might soon kick them out. An ordinance banning the sale of new fur products advanced in the City Council Tuesday, setting up a final vote as soon as next week. Ald. Raymond Lopez, the ban’s author, hopes the move will stifle the “barbaric and inhumane” fur industry, and said existing furriers need to evolve. “We know we can transition away from formerly live fur products,” Lopez, 15th, told aldermen.

A distraction from:
February 25, 2025
"In January 2023, shortly before the February Chicago mayoral elections, former Mayor Lori Lightfoot had a dismal 22% approval rating. Current Mayor Brandon Johnson’s approval has now sunk even lower, to only 6.6% in the latest poll, as issues such as rising crime concern residents of the Windy City."

Replaceable, to a small extent, by the tanned skins of Democrat politicians.

The left always uses the term "we" --- but it is not "we", its them, and I want no part of any of them.

How about "we know we can transition away from formerly live meat products".

Joyless Reid was wearing a fur coat the day she got fired. Maybe it's a backdoor attempt to keep her out of Chicago.

I’m glad to see my old home town is addressing serious issues. I left that once great city 41 years ago and have no desire to return. The furriers could move to the North Shore or other wealthy areas in DuPage County like Oak Brook, Burr Ridge, or Hinsdale.

Hey, wait a minute!
What about leather coats, leather purses, leather gloves, leather shoes, leather belts and all other things made of leather.
Silly Chicago!

Wow, wait until they find out what hamburgers are made of!
Fur farming is heavily regulated. It does not benefit fur farmers to mistreat their animals as the abuse will show up in the fur. The death of the animal and harvesting of the fur is also well regulated. Anthropomorphizing animals, most especially vicious little predators, that would have no issue killing your pets or poultry is stupid. Fur bearing animals do not make good pets. They are destructive when not in their own habitat and even then their numbers must be kept in check.
Fur is warm, long lasting, natural, biodegradable, and reusable. A well cared for fur coat can be used for 25 years, then restyled and used another 25. Try that with polyester or rayon or some other fabric made from oil.
The war on fashion and materials that last beyond the next season has been going on for some time. It is wasteful and totally driven by corrupt consumerist industries. Try buying a leather handbag, you have to really look for one, even when paying $150+. It's all vegan leather (plastic) or faux leather (more plastic) and you are lucky if it lasts a year. Same with shoes. They are all cheaply made overseas out of plastic. Clothes are so bad now they are practically disposable. I was struck going through my mother in laws clothing after she passed how many older suits she had, some 30 years old, that look fantastic and with some modifications could be very serviceable for years. But you can't sell mass quantities if you produce products that don't have be replaced every year.

Women cannot wear fur, but everyone can wear a leather coat.
It's Chicago, do not expect it to make sense.

I had the same thought as #7.
Furriers, move your business to a nice neighborhood OUTSIDE of Chit-Congo.
One more reason to NOT go into that city!
