Norah O’Donnell bid farewell to her anchor chair at “CBS Evening News” on Thursday night, calling the gig an “honor of a lifetime” — as the network prepares for an overhauled broadcast.
“It has been an incredible five and a half years,” O’Donnell said.
Oprah Winfrey surprised O’Donnell, 51, with a montage that featured interviews with Pope Francis and former Vice President Kamala Harris and on-location coverage across roughly 1,300 broadcasts. Norah O’Donnell officially signed off as the “CBS Evening News” anchor on Thursday.

“You have so much to be proud of,” Winfrey said.

If Winfrey lauds you, you must be despicable! Congratulations Norah, you qualify!

Sorry Norah, haven't watched CBS news in well over five years.
How many millions did you get for reading a teleprompter?

Five years. What a career! Remarkable!

Many have asked why the network evening news endures in an era of narrowcasting, streaming and digital devices.
The answer, in short, is because DC is stuck in the 70s. Media, politicians, bureaucrats believe that there are still three networks and a handful of newspapers and that controlling them means controlling all information and opinion. The networks, eager to have a seat at the table, play along as propagandists and the anchors imagine they are special, clever, influential. It reminds us of the 'showing off in Sunday school' chapter from Tom Sawyer.
It's interesting that we discover after the fact that the 'journalists' especially the evening news anchors turned out to be liars, egomaniacs and plain old jerks. Dan Rather set fire to his own career but Buck Sexton, once a callow intern at CBS, reveals that even at his ratings peak Rather was vain, shallow and lacked any grasp of detail.
Demographics have eroded ratings but the dumbed-down, alarmist, programmed nature of network news has done far more damage. If you've had the recent unfortunate occasion to view network news - even with the sound down - you see blood-red graphics and hyperbole: budget showdown, Trump under siege etc. Even Joe Biden's cue cards were more subtle than this.
We were in a bar/restaurant with the usual surfeit of TVs that were tuned to a golf tournament on a Sunday. The tournament concluded and cigar store Indian Lester Holt appeared to present the news. A bartender grabbed a handful of remotes and frantically began changing the channel on each TV. He gave us a panicked look and said 'People get very angry if we have the network news on.'

In other words: ''I'm jumping ship before CBS's upcoming round of layoffs, please excuse me while I hustle to MSDNC to submit an application.''

Well, this is just WONDERFUL!
With the election, Inauguration, and other goings on, I had seen more of O'Donnell in spot clips, articles, etc. and found her reporting Leftist and annoying. I hardly watch CBS and certainly not their news so this was a relatively new exposure although I knew who she was.
I had no clue that she was on her way out. I am delighted. And this is the typical boot out the door tied up in pretty ribbon so you don't complain too much. Salary cut by more than half, assigned to undefined "special" projects, blah, blah, blah.
Leftist reporters are mostly idiots. They could all be let go and our information access would not be affected at all. Could we test that?
I love how the article ranks the big three alphabet networks without noting that the "news" pie that they share is shrinking significantly. They are ALL losing audiences. I wonder what they will all look like in 4 years? Will there be any of them left?

Y’all, she’s not leaving CBS, she’s just moving to 60 minutes and other programs on CBS, so we still have to work hard to avoid her.

I haven't watched them in years, but I think some of these high profile "journalists" make too much money for a network losing viewers. This is mostly a financial move. Why pay millions a year to someone when only a relative handful are watching them.CBS won't change their propaganda, though, leftism is in their corporate DNA.

"Work hard to avoid her", poster #15? I've not seen any "news" on SeeBS since the early/mid 80s. It was easy!!!!!

O'Donnell, one inhabitant of the left-wing media echo chamber, gets a tribute from another, Winfrey. Meaningless to those of us who live in and deal with the real world.

I haven't cared when a C the BS Evening Snooze host left the airwaves since Walter Cronkite left in 1981. I remember watching it as a kid with my dad (Vietnam USMC vet) and remembering him saying that he was glad that lying putz is now off the air. Only to my dad's chagrin to be replaced by JFK assassination liar and fake news extraordinaire Dan Rather Not Watch. I've never watched the evening news on CBS as a kid (what kid does). I did never care for the arrogance of Rather especially one how he treated GHWB during their infamous interview and his eventual co-host Connie Chung behind the scenes. Hated Couric and thought Glor was an idiot. Pelley was like Rather only younger. Never cared for O'Donnell as she also was an arrogant harpy sort of like a younger version of the beforementioned Kate Couric. The only time I fully watched her was when she and the other CBS harpy Margaret Brennan tried to trip up JD Vance and help self-described knucklehead Tim Walz in their VP debate. Like my dad said about Cronkite when he left 44 years ago, I'm glad that lying putz is now off the air.
