TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida will have one of the country’s most restrictive social media bans for minors — if it withstands expected legal challenges — under a bill signed by Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday. The bill will ban social media accounts for children under 14 and require parental permission for 14- and 15-year-olds. It was slightly watered down from a proposal DeSantis vetoed earlier this month, a week before the annual legislative session ended. The new law was Republican Speaker Paul Renner’s top legislative priority. It takes effect Jan. 1. “A child in their brain development doesn’t have the ability to know that they’re being sucked into these addictive

Keeping children from video screens before they are developed prevents their brains from being wrecked.

I hate it when lie-berals do this garbage, and I hate it every bit as much when so-called conservatives do this garbage!!!!! It's not the government's place to make that call for our children. It's the parents' job!!!!! And parents do need to do this. But this is government over-reach at its most fascist!!!!!

With all these bans , I can't see how any of these can be enforced. Will adults have to show a birth certificate?

This will do nothing. I broke into my squadron's computers in the early 90's. My daughter hacked her high school's computers in 2000, and her son is even better than she was. Laws dont keep people out.

I do understand that laws don't keep people out because when a person decides they want to do something unlawful, all lengths will be taken to achieve it. Oh, I get it is a "heart" issue but when Democrats are taking God out of society, "hearts" will do whatever they feel like doing and their reasoning is they have free will and free choice. Sadly, the people with good hearts, good conscience, good intentions etc. suffer because of the people who don't have good hearts, good conscience, or good intentions. You can criticize this action all you want but I look at it a different way. Maybe these kinds of laws are put in place to protect the innocents. . .

Although I agree with this, I don't like it. It's not the government's job to regulate children's time with social media. That job belongs to the parents. It's sad that some of them won't do the right thing, but I don't want Big Government to do it no matter how good the intent.

I have to add one more comment because I wonder if people would complain that the Ten Commandments are too restrictive. The more God is taken out of society, the more "heart" problems we will have. . .

I'm the first to admit I know nothing about tech stuff....as my grandchildren will attest to...but this seems to make sense to me....child grooming by the whackos and fooling with children's minds seems to me...to be off limits for the strange crowd who are running the country now....what are they thinking?

Tech is everywhere and laws or no laws, bad parents are going to parent badly. But legislative overreach from left or right is bad for our country and no amount of governmental finger wagging is going to stop the immature, irresponsible, and stupid from breeding, neglecting their offspring, spoiling said offspring to offset their guilt, and thus producing little social media tyrants. We can see that with our own eyes today. Every fight, every brawl, every altercation... 100 people with phones aimed at the action. 0 people helping, 0 people breaking up the fight. Teaching your children to navigate tech safely and keeping the reins taut is just part of good parenting now. We don't do social media, we don't even post pics of our kids online anywhere. Too dangerous now. Our youngest surprise baby is now age 6 and has "informed" me multiple times that she wants a phone. I said "over my dead body." I cringe when I see young children with their own phone. Why? This can only lead to trouble. She does however enjoy educational and music games on her very parentally control and locked tablet and her homeschool involves a great deal of work on the computer. We screen every show she watches, every book she reads, every everything. Her elder brother did not get his own cell phone until he had a drivers license and a job at 17. I see no reason to change that rule.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) vetoed Democrat lawmakers’ “assault weapons” ban on Tuesday, along with a number of other Democrat-backed gun controls. On January 23, 2024, Breitbart News noted that Virginia Democrats were advancing an “assault weapons” ban. On February 9, 2024, Breitbart News pointed out that the Virginia House Democrats “assault firearm” ban targeted semiautomatic centerfire pistols — like the 9mm or 45 ACP — if said pistols take a detachable magazine and have a threaded barrel. Semiautomatic centerfire pistols are wildly popular among concealed carriers and target shooters. Some of the most popular semiautomatic centerfire pistols include the 9mm, 45 ACP, and 10mm, and a pistol chambered

Last summer the regime of socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro announced that leading opposition candidate Maria Corina Machado was ineligible to run for office. The country hadn't held an election in five years at that point but Machado was expected to be the leading candidate if the current government agreed to hold an election. The opposition held a primary to decide who would face off with Maduro and, as expected, Machado won despite the government sending out its colectivo thugs on motorbikes to harass opposition voters. Machado hoped that a clear win in the primary would embarrass the socialist government into allowing her on the ballot, but in January

Shares of Trump Media & Technology Group soared like helium from the opening bell and maintained most of those gains until late in the trading day when a selloff brought Trump's namesake social media company closer to earth with a closing market value of nearly $8 billion, on par with ride-hailing company Lyft and online marketplace Etsy. It was also an epic trading day for Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee and Trump Media's largest shareholder.

The Washington Post reported Tuesday that a member of the Qatari royal family invested roughly $50 million in Newsmax in 2019 and 2020, citing documents and representatives for the media company and the royal. WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Tuesday appeared likely to reject a challenge to the abortion pill mifepristone, with a number of justices indicating the lawsuit should be dismissed. The court, which has a 6-3 conservative majority, heard oral arguments on the Biden administration's appeal of lower court rulings that restricted women's access to the pill, including its availability by mail. But during the arguments, there was little discussion of whether the Food and Drug Administration's decisions to lift restrictions on the drug were unlawful. Instead, the justices focused on whether the group of anti-abortion doctors who brought the lawsuit even had legal standing to bring the claim.

Politico has a follow up on something which seems pretty strange in retrospect. Just a few months ago, the Biden administration was leaking to the media that it was about to crack down on illegal immigration. Specifically, we were told there might be an executive order coming intended to limit the surge of asylum seekers. But all of that seems to have faded away. A month ago, the White House was openly considering a string of executive actions to curb migration at the southern border. But no announcements were made. And now, immigration advocates who had been engaged with the Biden administration about the moves say they no longer appear imminent...

At least eight states are planning to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars in the next decade - and others are considering joining them. Only zero-emission vehicles can be sold in participating states beginning from the 2035 model year, according to the Advanced Clean Cars II legislation. The rule, which was first adopted by California, means that automakers and dealerships would be banned from selling new gas cars in these states from that point onwards. Americans will not be forced to take their gas-powered cars off the road, however, and will still be able to buy used and secondhand gas vehicles. These states have gone further
