Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, agreed to pay nearly $300,000 in restitution on Tuesday under a deal cut with federal prosecutors to terminate fraud charges that have been leveraged against him for nine years. Paxton had pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors announced the decision in a Houston courtroom just weeks before Paxton was set to face trial, where he could have faced 99 years in prison if found guilty.
Paxton's attorney, Dan Cogdell, told Fox News Digital following the announcement that "the state finally realized that they could not prove the charges and simply made us an offer that I could not

The federal persecuters should each be paying Paxton $300,000 and the state of Texas $300,000,000 for trying to prevent Paxton from being able to do his job and keep fighting the Federal government and voter fraud.

Sad to say, but the trial would probably cost more than $300K in lawyer's fees and not have a certain outcome.

You're still paying for a fraud, Ken. What's with people happy to pay fines when they're being railroaded? The next train is on the tracks and coming for ya. You should be figuring out how to sue them!

As a Texas Republican who has voted and contributed to Mr Paxton, I'm not sure he's as clean as the wind-driven snow, but there are a whole bunch of beloved in-power Democrats much worse.
He obviously did what he had to do and make this go away.

This reminds me of an old Tom T Hall song about a guy sitting at a stop sign in a little country burg and gets arrested for speeding through main street. Spends a week in jail when the judge takes every nichol he had to get out. He gladly paid too.Must have been a democrat deputy and judge.

Welcome to legal battles with our government. You can be innocent, but get crushed by massive legal bills fighting a government with an endless supply of money.

It's obvious the democrats are nasty people...and they are using the courts to do their dirty work...so okay...perhaps tomorrow the Texas Attorney General will have a wind fall...like President Trump did when the court tried to punish him...GO Texas!!

Re: #5 - In the vein of #7, I believe Joseph Souter, (aka Joe South) in 1970, had an answer to your question:
"Walk a mile in my shoes
Walk a mile in my shoes
Hey, before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Walk a mile in my shoes."

So the question Ken Paxton had to answer was, was my time and money to pay an attorney to fight a bogus fraud charge I've been fighting for 9 years worth my peace of mind and freedom? Most people would probably say yes to get the govt. off his back. Yes, it's blackmail, but what are the options? Fight in court, spend tons of money, take a chance with a liberal jury and lying witnesses? A lot of people don't have the cash or the political gumption to fight this.

I too voted for Paxton, and will again. He may not be the "cleanest" individual, but compared to demonrats and rinos, he's a Saint!
This is the persecution of Paxton, just as the Deep State is doing to President Trump. Everyone knows the demonrats are behind this, but everyone cannot forget the complicit Rinos, both in the state of Texas, other states, and the country overall. At least you know when you see a (D) beside someone's name, they're a commiecrat and definitely not to be trusted. However, the insidious Rinos are proving to be far more difficult to expose even though many more are showing their hand since President Trump came on the scene. The sooner people are up to date on "compromising" backstabbers other than Cornyn and McConnell, the better off the country will be.

Yes #6, me too. I do support AG Paxton but I also think a trial might be not so good for him.
