Donald Trump Post Sharing Scripture Draws Criticism

Original Article

Posted By: Imright, 3/26/2024 6:21:54 AM

Former President Donald Trump received criticism for sharing scripture from a supporter who drew a parallel between his ongoing legal battles and Jesus Christ’s persecution. “Received this morning—Beautiful, thank you!” Trump said on Truth Social, sharing the commentary he received from a supporter. “It’s ironic that Christ walked through His greatest persecution the very week they are trying to steal your property from you. But have you seen this verse…?” the quote reads, pointing to Psalm 109:3-8.

I do not really like people comparing Trump, or anyone else, and his suffering to that of Christ, especially invoking one of the messianic psalms. That said, I love that the left despises Christ and the Word of God, except when they can use Him and His Word to play "gotcha". Suddenly, they're all about Jesus and the Bible, even though they otherwise deny Him and His Word at every turn on a daily basis.

Tribulations of man and his plights help him to reach out to the greater power of prayer against forces out of their control. David, a serial sinner was pleading for strength and guidance. President Trump reposting a prayer sent to him by someone thoughtful and caring enough to want him to read Davids plea is NOT a comparison to Christ but a pathway for protection and know there is a TRUE light and the end . MAGA.

Trump is trying to do good. Evil and wickedness are opposing him - for that very reason. There is rarely such a clear cut demonstration of the trials and tribulations of the righteous (and Trump is no saint!) in everyday life. What has God or Jesus got to do with it?

No matter what Trump does, the left will criticize him. If he had posted a quote from the US Constitution they would accuse him of comparing himself to the founding fathers of the country. Trump was complementing a post by a supporter. Get over it. The Psalm noted perfectly described Trump's current situation.

Whatever. I can see it. Even a deep sinner like Trump can suffer persecution. And Jesus stood for all mankind. So while I may question Trump’s judgment (he had to know what would follow), injustice is injustice. Shoving through an extension of the statute of limitations in New York state solely to prosecute Trump; levying a half million bucks in another prosecution in which the alleged, “victims,” suffered no material losses and had no complaint; being charged with electoral corruption by a Georgia prosecution team itself deeply and demonstrably corrupt; charging Trump as President with lawfully harboring Presidential records as privileged, under security and secret service protection, as Vice President Biden without Presidential privilege unlawfully left equally sensitive material in multiple insecure locations including a Delaware residential garage? While Trump should probably not have compared himself to the Man of Sorrows, he’s certainly got wicked and deceitful mouths opened against him, speaking against him with lying tongues and words of hate, and attacking him only with the cause of political gain.

Trump receives criticism every time he takes a dump. It's the Democrats making mountains of molehills, they have been doing it for years. Trump should not be compared with Jesus Christ, but it wasn't Trump who drew the comparison. Trying to find another politician to compare him to is difficult, because to my knowledge no other politician in history has been put upon so badly unless it was Julius Caesar who was stabbed in the back by the Romans.

Lighten up, folks. God always uses the most unlikely people to accomplish His will. This was not a comparison of Trump to Jesus but to David who as we all know was not sinless perfection. I think any Christian witnessing what is going on with President Trump has made comparisons with individuals in the Bible simply because it is such a stark and evil persecution. It is so wrong and in the open, yet it continues like a train barreling down the track. I know I have never seen anything like it. Of course we know President Trump is flawed as we all are but at this particular moment in history I do not see how he manages to keep his head up and retain a positive attitude. Most of us would have been crushed long ago. God, I believe, is using President Trump but the outcome is still uncertain. I do not know God’s thoughts but I do thank God that he appears to have his hand of protection on President Trump. Frankly, I am not sure that we as a country have crossed a line and are now experiencing the judgment of God on us. Only time will tell.

Okay, a third comment and I am done. In reading the New Testament, a person comes to realize that Jesus came to this earth to experience what humans have to endure. One of those human experiences is hate. Jesus died because of it. #11, a person doesn't have to look hard to find the animosity being shown to Republicans. In my time, I could point to Richard Nixon, George W Bush (quite surprising who he sides with), Sarah Palin, the person running against Barack Obama in Illinois etc., etc. Jealousy seems to be the motivating factor but I also realize that when a political party works hard at taking God out of society, wisdom goes out the window. No more to say. . .

Here's what the Bible says that is being quoted by a SUPPORTER, and that Trump says is "beautiful". Works for me. Psalm 109:3-8 With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause. In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer. They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship. Appoint someone evil to oppose my enemy; let an accuser stand at his right hand. When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayers condemn him. May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. I especially hope that the last two lines are applied to Joe.

It's laughable to me that President Trump is being accused of blasphemy by those on the left. It's doubtful that they could provide its definition if asked. It's just a catchy buzzword to them ~ nothing more. I absolutely agree with #12 concerning "the twin demons". They receive no pushback from the left since the left is aware that these two spout Scripture for expediency's sake and to make people believe they are pious. Sadly, too many people are more gullible than they should be.

They are shouting blasphemy from mighty shakey ground. There is an obvious YUGE amount of need for repentance before judging Trump or anyone else if they want to escape the consequences. The planks & beams vs motes & specks (depending on Bible versions) give a clear description of hypocrisy in Matthew 7. Christ died for all of us. He desires that none be lost. But, salvation has its requirements before its rewards. Pointing fingers and claiming that someone is worse than you isn’t one of them. We won’t be judged by comparison to one another, but by the perfect word of the Lord. There should be a lot more focus on the entirety of His word, imo, and a lot more evidence of obedience to it, if we want to be saved as individuals and as a nation. Our Founders were not ashamed to honor God & quote His word publicly. God will bless us up to a point, but He is holy and righteous and He can be pushed to the point of protecting His own name. May there be enough of us to prevent US from destruction when that time comes. As #13 indicated in her excellent comment, it’s still to be determined. I agree that Trump is being used by God. That indicates, to me, that this isn’t about Trump. This is about God. If we are sickened by all of this evil & want something done about it, we can be assured that our righteous God wants it more. If we stand for Him, He will stand with us. If not….

#9, Yeah, in well aware of when the Psalms were written. That does not negate the fact that some were indeed Messianic prophesies. Psalm 22 is not about David. And Paul points out that in one of the Psalms David refers to Christ when he says, "the Lord said unto my Lord...". Also, David did not write all the Psalms, if we're going to have a proper discussion of them.

Also, #6, I've been through a lot in my life (like many other people). I don't compare my suffering to that of Christ. There is no comparison of momentary afflictions to God Himself condescending to take on human flesh and offer himself as an atonement for sin he never committed. Surely you can understand the difference. By the way, if we're going to throw Job in the mix, it's worth noting what God said to him when he did start to complain about his "troubles". (Job 38-41).

By the way, for those who seem to be implying that anyone who disagrees about the person who made the original post comparing Trump's troubles to Jesus, is a "troll", "hater", etc.,... sorry, you don't know what you're talking about. Anyone who posts here regularly knows I am a Trump supporter, full stop. That doesn't mean I can't disagree about anything he does. I mean, I'm not a liberal, so I form my own thoughts and opinions, and do know that no one, not even Donald Trump, is perfect. Good grief, THAT is liberal mob mentality - no disagreement, no dissension, no criticism, or you're not "loyal". Whatever. I won't be intimidated by such silly comments. I don't base my worth on unseen and unknown people on an internet forum. And of course, the silliness of this is that I was actually disagreeing with the person who had made the original post making the comparison.

#1~ With all due respect, be reminded that Jesus was both human and Divine and, in His human nature, experienced the sufferings of mortal man and it is the human side of Jesus that may allow for a degree of comparison with Jesus in that regard when it comes to a well-meaning, gracious reference to Jesus on behalf of someone being subjected to suffering and persecution beyond the norm as the originator of suggesting the Psalm 109 did on behalf of President Trump—a compassionate Christian act of kindness. Defending our Lord Jesus from irresponsible comparisons is necessary and laudable, however, this comparison was not irresponsible. As for Psalms, it has been written that the Psalter is the mirror of Christendom---an insight into the hearts, souls, and writings of the saints for mortal man’s comfort, joy, and learning.
