A powerful blizzard that has dumped huge amounts of snow in the Sierra Nevada mountains will continue to slam the region through Sunday, bringing more snow and damaging winds as a second “weaker” system is expected to bring additional snow Monday. The dayslong storm that has caused treacherous white-out conditions due to its hefty wind gusts has shuttered national parks, ski resorts and parts of a major California interstate. Up to 10 feet of snow was expected to slam high-elevation areas, creating a “life-threatening concern” for Lake Tahoe residents, National Weather Service meteorologist William Churchill said.

Great news for us Californians. Very bad news for the environuts who will have to admit, yet again, that there is no drought to harp on this year.

will this help put out the Fires?
The Texas panhandle fires were followed by snow...
there are STILL massive wildfires in western canada, as there are in Siberia and Mongolia.(all 100 naturally started)
Are those million acre fires causing a Global Impact?
Or is this all because of Cows? And Nat Gas ranges...

Ask the Donner Party about crossing the Sierra Nevada in winter to early spring. It's been like this forever, and that's why there are skiing areas near by.

Here is a fire map...zoom in/out....red are "Wild" fires...yellow is "intentional controlled burn" fires, this IS the season for that.

And it will all go to waste because there's not enough reservoir capacity to store the water when all that snow melts. And yes, this is nothing unusual. When I was growing up in Orange County in the 50s, we'd get storms that put water up to the top of freeway onramps.

Then at least the snail darters will be happy. Because our West Coast idjits never think far enough ahead to save up water for a non-rainy day.

It was so good here in TX Panhandle to get even the light dusting of snow we got!! Stunner and Fritch got extra help killing the heat still coming off the embers of barns, homes and other structures.
My prayers to Californians up there dealing with those incredible blizzard conditions! I know those Sierra Nevada area folks are used to the heavy snowstorms but sheesh in March??

Joe said climate deniers are quote " Neaderthrals." So, they must be holed up in caves to stay out of the global warming thrust upon them. Oh wait I'm sorry he had to go after Texas but not California. Putz!

Re #8, and in northern Cali and southern Oregon, they have been blowing up dams....so DESTROYING water storage and flood protection capacity.....and making millions of acres of moonscape where beautiful lakes used to be.
Econazis are the biggest threat that we face now, in the near term and close to home.

Well, of COURSE it's "life-threatening" - most blizzards are, if you're stupid enough to go out in them.
And, in the midst of all this snow and rain, the idiots in California haven't built a new reservoir in about 80 years. So, when the next drought hits, they won't have any of that water.
Embrace the suck, morons.

Well, I have to ask. If the climate experts can predict what the weather will be like 50 years from now, why didn't they predict this storm back in 1980? Or even a year ago?

Gee, if the Donner Party had been aware of climate change, they could have avoided their disaster (/s).

Several posters have mentioned the Donner party. At the Donner state park there is a monument that represents the depth of the snow when the Donner party was there. The base of that monument is 25 feet high. This represents how deep the snow was. There are also a few photos of the Donner location taken some twenty years later showing trees stumps cut off at least that high. These trees were cut down by the Donner party to keep fires burning. There is a lake there as well, but with snow so deep, even knowing a lake was there was probably impossible to even tell. So, fishing for food wasn't even a thought. I came across this park purely by accident but was well aware of the story of the Donner party. An interesting fact of those sent out to seek help was that they would start fires to keep warm, but they had to keep starting new fires because the fire would melt the snow and the fire would sink several feet into the snow.
