Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is rushing through a tax bill unveiled days ago over significant policy objections from both conservative and centrist factions of the Republican Party.
Conservatives have spoken out against provisions in the bill they see as handouts to illegal immigrants, particularly an expansion of the Child Tax Credit without language requiring the parent to have a Social Security number. They argue the expansion would serve as an additional powerful migration pull, even as migrant encounters at the border reach record highs under President Joe Biden.

A man from Mississippi has been charged with a hate crime after he allegedly badly damaged a Satanic display at Iowa's capitol building in Des Moines in December. The damaged display included a statue of the pagan idol Baphomet. [SNIP] Michael Cassidy, a former Mississippi congressional candidate, was charged after the vandalism with misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal mischief.
He said at the time, "My conscience is held captive to the word of God, not to bureaucratic decree. And so I acted."
That charge was upgraded, according to court documents reported on by the Des Moines Register, accusing Cassidy of committing felony third-degree criminal mischief.

A 20-year-old Alliance man will serve 18 years in prison for attempting to burn down a church because it supports the LGBTQ+ community.
According to the Ohio Department of Justice, Aimenn Penny was sentenced Monday to 216 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
Penny went to the Community Church of Chesterland on March 25 and lobbed Molotov cocktails at the building in an attempt to burn it to the ground, authorities said.
The church had previously announced plans to host a "Drag Queen Story Time" event.

UPS says it will cut 12,000 jobs following a disappointing sales outlook for the year. The layoffs come just five months after the company reached a major union deal.
The job cuts will help the company save $1 billion in costs, CEO Carol Tome said in a call Tuesday morning. Manager and contract roles will be the most impacted.
Labor negotiations last year threatened to disrupt package deliveries for millions of customers, before a deal with Teamsters was reached. As consumers feared potential strikes, they took their business to rival companies, like FedEx. UPS expects to gain most of that business back, but so far has only won back 60% of it.

An activist investor has urged BP to ditch its green strategy and continue to cash in on oil and gas.
Bluebell Capital Partners wrote to the energy giant’s chairman Helge Lund with concerns about how the FTSE 100 energy giant is run.
The London-based hedge fund blasted BP’s green transition plan as ‘irrational’ and said the strategy has depressed its share price.
Investors are concerned that BP is underperforming compared with rival Shell and US energy giants Exxon Mobil and Chevron.
Shell has scaled back its net zero transition strategy under the leadership of chief executive Wael Sawan. And American energy firms have doubled down on oil and gas production.

Bezhani Sarvar, was working as a security guard and then he decided that Allah had a special mission for him. And, like all of Allah’s special missions, it involved shooting a whole lot of people.
So he headed on over to City Hall in the Canadian city of Edmonton and got on with Allah’s work. Not that the media will tell you any of this. [SNIP] The Muslim terrorist ranted about “this genocide that’s going on in Gaza and throughout the world” and vowed, “inshallah, we will rise against you guys, and we’ll put you on trial.”
He vowed, “Salam-Alaikum, brothers and sisters. Inshallah. I’ll succeed with my mission."

In Ohio and other states, the number of people locked up in jails and prisons has increased dramatically over the past four decades.
Many, including Ohio, are taking steps to reduce those numbers. [SNIP]
Those who get locked up are much more likely to be people of color — 69% — didn’t complete high school — 62% — received public assistance before turning 18 — 42% — and had been homeless or lived in subsidized housing while still a child — 31%.

A group of survivors of Nazi death camps marked the 79th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp during World War II in a modest ceremony Saturday in southern Poland. [SNIP] Police were also on alert after pro-Palestinian activists indicated that they would ignore a police order and go ahead with a rally planned to coincide with the Holocaust commemorations. Italy's Jewish community has complained that such protests have become occasions for the memory of the Holocaust to be co-opted by anti-Israel forces and used against Jews.

Footage reveals the moment pro-Palestinian protestors harass attendees of a memorial service held for Henry Kissinger at a Temple in New York City.
In a video obtained by FreedomNewsTV, individuals wearing keffiyehs can be seen heckling and harassing people on the street in front of Temple Emanu-El on Thursday.
The mob is seen targeting one individual, blowing smoke in his face and making fun of his Israeli flag pin.
As they approached the man standing alone on the sidewalk wearing what appeared to be a minuscule Israeli flag pin on his shirt, one person remarked, 'Oh, is that an Israeli flag?' before calling him a 'Zionist coward piece of s***.'

President Donald Trump had an astonishing, historic victory in the Iowa caucus. He carried 98 of 99 counties and was 30 points ahead of the second candidate. He beat Bob Dole’s record 12-point victory over George H W Bush from 1988 – and got over 50 percent in what was effectively a four-way field. [SNIP] Finally, to understand the Trump phenomenon, you must understand that he is not a normal candidate. President Trump is the leader of a national movement. Leaders have a much deeper claim on the loyalty and affection of their supporters than mere candidates have.

The Wizard Of Oz and It's A Wonderful Life are going to get a 'diverse' reboot, a Hollywood director has revealed.
Kenya Barris, who created the ABC sitcom Black-ish, is working on scripts for the Warner Bros adaptations of the Hollywood classics and spoke of his plans to make some key changes. [SNIP]
The producer, 50, said the 1939 Judy Garland film The Wizard Of Oz will get a modern day remake with it set it The Bottoms - Inglewood, California, rather than Kansas.
Kenya added it is the 'best time to turn a mirror on society' and he wants to do both films with diverse characters.
