Johnson Sets Vote on Tax Bill Conservatives
Call ‘Trojan Horse to Expand Welfare’

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is rushing through a tax bill unveiled days ago over significant policy objections from both conservative and centrist factions of the Republican Party. Conservatives have spoken out against provisions in the bill they see as handouts to illegal immigrants, particularly an expansion of the Child Tax Credit without language requiring the parent to have a Social Security number. They argue the expansion would serve as an additional powerful migration pull, even as migrant encounters at the border reach record highs under President Joe Biden.

From what I read on this POS bill, it's more welfare for illegals and no real tax relief.

Mr. Speaker, justify this to the American taxpayer citizen! Let me assure you that we are sick and tired of being sucked dry by politicians whose only consideration is not in our best interests. Cut off the welfare spout. It is the reason so many illegals are coming here. If they knew there was nothing for them waiting here to make their lives easy, they may think twice about coming. We cannot keep giving what we do not have to people who do not earn it. My empathy for these law breakers is nil. American citizens are being asked to do for illegals what they cannot afford to do for themselves and that is to put food on the table and a roof over their own heads. This is simply unacceptable and asks too much of the American taxpayer. Mike Johnson, you are a failure.

Speaker Johnson on a personal level is a great representative of the people== Politically, he appears to be buried by an avalanche of allowing the kinds of stuff that is bringing down this country by breaking the bank much like the drug addict who wants to quit but just needs one more 'hit' before going cold turkey and then relapsing and having to STEAL things from others to get more money to keep doing the "drug" of over spending money we do not have--

When talk of kicking Johnson out I thought give him a chance, now he has had the chance and if they bring up voting out again I will be for it, because he has done just what they all do, turned his back on the American people for politics. Finding one honest individual to live up to what they profess to get in looks to be next to impossible, they all in the end bow to the Dems. Cowards, all of them. NO more tax payer dollars for illegals, deport evey damn one of them Johnson.

There should be no refundable tax credits, much less expanding existing ones. They are a massive source of fraud, and have turned the tax code into a welfare code. Giving any incentives to illegal invaders needs to stop immediately. Ship them back across the border.

What this is telling everyone is that the economy is so bad, with inflation in particular reeking havoc on the average person's paycheck, they decided to help Democrats with one of their favorite "benies" they like to give away. Yet, Speaker Johnson mentions he will have a vote on increasing SALT next week. Presumably they had assurances from the same Democrats that they'd support some increase so they can then bash Republicans for only looking out for the wealthy. I would suggest Speaker Johnson obtain the increase in SALT in the current bill, but only increase SALT to say $25,000 maximum which will help the average taxpayer and not be a giveaway to the wealthy.

It's pure lunacy. We don't need any more immigrants, legal or otherwise. We should tax the ones who are here so much that they will want to return to their home countries. Or handle them like North Korea does.

A man from Mississippi has been charged with a hate crime after he allegedly badly damaged a Satanic display at Iowa's capitol building in Des Moines in December. The damaged display included a statue of the pagan idol Baphomet. [SNIP] Michael Cassidy, a former Mississippi congressional candidate, was charged after the vandalism with misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal mischief. He said at the time, "My conscience is held captive to the word of God, not to bureaucratic decree. And so I acted." That charge was upgraded, according to court documents reported on by the Des Moines Register, accusing Cassidy of committing felony third-degree criminal mischief.

UPS says it will cut 12,000 jobs following a disappointing sales outlook for the year. The layoffs come just five months after the company reached a major union deal. The job cuts will help the company save $1 billion in costs, CEO Carol Tome said in a call Tuesday morning. Manager and contract roles will be the most impacted. Labor negotiations last year threatened to disrupt package deliveries for millions of customers, before a deal with Teamsters was reached. As consumers feared potential strikes, they took their business to rival companies, like FedEx. UPS expects to gain most of that business back, but so far has only won back 60% of it.

Bluebell Capital Partners wrote to the energy giant’s chairman Helge Lund with concerns about how the FTSE 100 energy giant is run. The London-based hedge fund blasted BP’s green transition plan as ‘irrational’ and said the strategy has depressed its share price. Investors are concerned that BP is underperforming compared with rival Shell and US energy giants Exxon Mobil and Chevron. Shell has scaled back its net zero transition strategy under the leadership of chief executive Wael Sawan. And American energy firms have doubled down on oil and gas production.
