A grand jury indicted Alec Baldwin on Friday on an involuntary manslaughter charge in a 2021 fatal shooting during a rehearsal on a movie set in New Mexico, reviving a dormant case against the A-list actor. Special prosecutors brought the case before a grand jury in Santa Fe this week, months after receiving a new analysis of the gun that was used. Baldwin, the lead actor and a co-producer on the Western movie "Rust," was pointing a gun at cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during a rehearsal on a movie set outside Santa Fe in October 2021 when the gun went off, killing her and wounding director Joel Souza. Baldwin has said he

He's definitely guilty, from all the info released so far. The gun was in his hand, and operated by him. No doubt he didn't intend to kill her, but his negligence was responsible for her death.

Too bad for Alec the courts stopped protecting defendants from double jeopardy when they indicted Trump the 9th time.

Re #3, double jeopardy wouldn't apply. That term is for a defendant found innocent in one trial couldn't be recharged and a new trial take place. Baldwin was never tried, I believe that the charges were dropped, so this is still 'single jeopardy' as I understand the term.

The gun was in his hand, he pointed it at the victim, he admits to drawing the hammer back but not pulling the trigger, every tester of the gun said there was no way to fire unless you pulled the trigger while the hammer was cocked....you committed involuntary manslaughter, Alec.

Mistakenly thought the dropped charges had been an exoneration, #5. Maybe because so many "news" reports made it sound like it proved his innocence, but still my bad for that...

RE #8: I was taught that there is no such thing as an unloaded gun, to treat every weapon as if it were fully loaded. Baldwin is a leftist so I doubt he has had firearm safety training or he would have NEVER pointed a gun at someone without checking it out himself.

Re #13, Baldwin the producer put in place operating rules on his movie which permitted an unqualified person (assistant director, IIRC) to handle a gun and incompetently declare "cold gun", so that Baldwin, the actor, could point the gun at a living person, cocked the hammer and pulled the trigger while pointing it at fwo staff members, killing one, wounding the other. If the producer and the actor were two different persons, perhaps the blame could be spread out more. However, since Baldwin did both jobs, he aggregates most of the blame to himself. The tense is wrong above because the brainlessdirty word filter wont recognize the verb for pulling back the hammer. Stupid.

Anyone who has handled firearms knows that you never ever point that gun at someone you do not intend to shoot. What he did was stupid, incomprehensible, and the result of an ignorant, arrogant POS who thinks he’s far smarter than he is. I very much hope he goes to jail where he belongs.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has approved $1,075,660 in grant funding since 2016 to develop and test the effectiveness of a Japanese role-playing game-inspired web app in reducing binge drinking among sexual and gender minority youth, according to a federal grant database. The grant claims LGBTQ youth are “at greater risk for alcohol-related morbidity and mortality across the life-course.” The NIH pledged to pay $343,340 for the game’s development between April 2016

When I was in middle school, someone gave me a copy of "The Catcher in the Rye," which, depending on the national mood, has found itself on the banned list of various schools. The adventures of Holden Caulfield were interesting and entertaining. But more often than not, I found myself convulsed with laughter over Holden's observations about the world and the way in which he expressed them. I have often used the phrase "as sensitive as a toilet seat" to describe many people I have met. Moreover, Holden's problems resonated with me. Many young people, and for that matter many adults, can relate to Holden's inability to conform to the

China used to boast that this would be its century, but will there even be a China at the end of this century? The numbers are not promising. China’s population fell for the second year in a row in 2023, as deaths outpaced births in what was once the world’s most populous country. Chinese authorities see the declining population as an existential threat to its economic future. In 2022, China saw its first population decline since the 1960s, though it still had a population of 1.41175 billion people. China’s population declined for a second consecutive year in 2023, dropping by about 2.08 million to 1.409 billion people, the country’s National Bureau of Statistics announced Wednesday.

Throughout the Biden presidency, there's been a constant refrain that eliminating fossil fuels will solve all our environmental problems. A big part of that narrative is the push to encourage, cajole, and force everyone into buying electric vehicles (EVs). The disadvantages of EVs are obvious. They're more expensive than gas-powered cars and don't have a long enough range for traveling, but both facts are lost on the elite leftists who think that EVs are the answer to every question. The charging infrastructure is lacking, and it won't be sufficient to support extensive EV use for a long time. Remember Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm's disastrous EV roadshow

Just recently, ahead of the anniversary of Jan. 6, President Joe Biden gave a speech near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, to kick off his 2024 campaign. His theme was that the upcoming presidential election will determine whether or not America remains a democracy because a vote for Donald Trump is a vote to end democracy in America. Politically speaking, the purpose of the speech was clear. Given that Biden has among the lowest favorability numbers ever recorded for a sitting president, he cannot make the election about his achievements. Because he has none that warrant his reelection.
