Here we go. It must be election season! CDC Director Dr. Mandy Cohen issued a new alert for the COVID “Pirola” variant and recommended for those who are feeling symptoms to mask up. “Respiratory viruses commonly cause illness such as flu, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), especially in the fall and winter. There are actions you can take to protect yourself and others. Learn about how to reduce your risk of getting sick from these viruses, and if they are spreading in your community,” the CDC stated. The CDC issued an updated COVID alert on Friday. JN.1, a variant of the virus that causes COVID-19, is a closely related offshoot

Oh, I think not. The CDC needs to be cleaned out, as well.

Good Grief! I was with Seven Ladies a week ago (playing Rummikub for the Afternoon). The next day one of the Ladies called all of us to let us know she tested Positive for COVID. So, what happened? Nothing! None of us even have a Cold. We are all over 80! I think we should use common sense and IF we get a COLD we should stay home until we feel better. It's worked for 80 years for us! Yes, I have had COVID. Caused us to be in isolation for four days of our Cruise. Four of us who traveled together got it the same day. All of us were over it in five days. I don't get this "The Sky is Falling" attitude every winter!

I recently had Covid, and was working the whole time. And I never wore a mask. By the time I was diagnosed, I was about 4 days in to the symptoms. I initially thought it was allergies, which is why I continued to work. I started to get a little achy, then thought it might be the flu or pneumonia so scheduled a doctor appointment that day (day 4). The worst part was the coughing, which had gotten really bad. That said, until went to doctor and got a diagnosis, I had no idea it was Covid. And even with all my coughing and sneezing (obviously, covering mouth, etc, again thinking it was allergies!!), not one person I work with, nor my youngest son whom I take to and from work each day, caught it from me. Even without a mask. All that aside, I do want to say that I was prescribed Paxlovid that 4th day, which I started with the evening dose, and by the next morning, I felt at least 50% better!

Almost four years after Covid made its way around the world, some people still cling to their face masks, and wear them everywhere. You don't have to guess whom they voted for; they believe what they're told, voted exactly the same straight Democrat ballot as paid Pfizer "vaccine" flack Martha Stewart, and look at the rest of us as super spreaders who probably ought to die, untreated in the hospital parking lots, as punishment for not obeying St. Anthony of Fauci and obediently getting our clot shots and clot boosters. (And lay off that horse paste!) It's hard for me not to give these fear drenched folks a look with equal parts pity and contempt. In the bird world, they're dumb clucks, as malleable as soft lead and as toxic.

IF YOU feel the need for this added layer of protection (they don't really work) then YOU go ahead and wear one. Wear a mask every day of YOUR life if you want to. Protecting YOURSELF falls on YOUR shoulders. It is not my job to make YOU feel comfortable about leaving the house. Put one on and put some extra masks in your pocket just in case. My mantra: Wash your hands; don't touch your face! Don't touch your face; wash your hands! When people are wearing masks, they constantly touch their faces. Watch them sometime. Then they hack and glurgle and then pull the slipping mask up to... up to... their noses, touching their skin. Then they touch the object, something, anything (like when we were looking at kitchen faucets one day. disgusting). So, Wash your hands! Don't touch your face, especially eyes, nose, mouth! Cough into your elbow, or inside jacket, just not into your hands. Then wash your hands. Efficacy of hand sanitizers is questioned by some, but we use them. Sometimes I use it, then wipe it off when moist to (i think) wipe off substance, then reapply if observed conditions warrant. Perhaps hand cream would serve the purpose of cleaning off the hands just as well. Keep hydrated. Get out outside, sunlight is especially salubrious. Breathe fresh air. We take vitamin D. Laugh! A good belly laugh will make you feel good. Hopefully you can find something that really is funny. Be thankful. Every day, among many things, I am thankful for Miss Lucianne, for this, her genius site, and my fellow Ldotters.

The House Committee on Education hearing was somewhat low-key but riddled with appalling moments, like when three college heads from MIT, Harvard and UPenn endorsed Jewish genocide. After the past week's Congressional hearings, the presidents of Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Pennsylvania are being exposed to an amount of publicity and scrutiny they're not used to and likely wish would go away. As we reported, the trio claimed that calls for genocide against Jews needed to be placed into context before deciding whether they violated student codes of conduct. The backlash was swift, and so was the backpedaling. UPenn's Liz Magill wasn't able to keep her job, though, and Harvard's Claudine Gay might not be far behind. Longtime Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) filed for reelection just two days after a stinging electoral loss in Houston's mayoral race and before the 6 p.m. deadline on Monday to file. Jackson Lee lost the mayoral runoff election on Saturday to another longtime Texas politician, Democratic state Sen. John Whitmire, who will helm the nation's fourth-largest city. The race had gone to a runoff after the pair of candidates advanced from the November all-party primary.

On Monday, CBS Mornings joined ABC and NBC with a hair-on-fire warning for President Biden that if he continued to support Israel and oppose Hamas, he risked losing the Muslim vote and possibly losing the 2024 election. Of course, the source of CBS’s moral cowardice in standing up to the terrorist organization was the fear that Democrats could lose the key state of Michigan and former President Trump could become president again. Co-anchor Tony Dokoupil kicked off the network’s kvetching by warning that “The latest CBS News poll, in fact, finds most Americans do not approve of President Biden's handling

A year after leaving the White House, Barack and Michelle Obama created a production company called Higher Ground Productions that would produce documentaries and high-end movies. Their most recent movie, though, seemingly seeks the lowest ground possible, for it appears to stoke racial hatred in the context of an apocalypse. According to the Higher Ground website, Leave the World Behind throws a white and black couple together during a massive cyberattack: A family’s (Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke) vacation is upended when two strangers (Mahershala Ali and Myha’la) arrive at night, seeking refuge from a cyberattack that grows more terrifying

As Cop28 in Dubai enters its final hours, the emotional weight of the moment is hard to bear. I find myself thinking of a six-year-old boy called Desmond I met in Turkana county, Kenya, who died from severe acute malnutrition on the same day. His death was the result of a climate-induced drought that has left millions of people on the brink of starvation in the Horn of Africa. I want the negotiators deciding the outcome of Cop28 to know Desmond’s story. Because in the end, the climate crisis is not about pledges, statistics, reports or activists. It’s about human suffering and ruined lives. It’s about death.

First, Team Biden announced it will stop production of all new coal plants in the United States. This comes on the heels of President Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency saying this year it would impose new power-plant emission regulations that are virtually impossible for coal plants to comply with. The bottom line: no more coal. Period.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Monday that Iran and Israel have only one thing in common: neither believes in a “two-state solution” for the Palestinians. Other Iranian officials jumped in to clarify that Tehran believes all of Israel should be given to the Palestinians, annihilating the Jewish state. Amirabdollahian told a forum in Doha devoted to the Israel-Hamas war that a state of “Palestine” should be created via referendum, with “only descendants of those who lived there prior to 1948 being permitted to vote.”

Old hybrid vehicles can come with massive bills when their batteries die, as an Arizona man recently found out. Lucas Turner was driving his 2014 Infiniti hybrid when its check engine light made its annoying appearance on the scene, according to KPHO-TV. Not good, but with fewer than 70,000 miles on the vehicle, he was not expecting the bill would be a whopper.

Ahem. Later today, Beege will explore the question of what exactly it takes to get fired from Harvard. For now, let’s just marvel at the intellectual gymnastics of Harvard’s corporate board, which issued a statement just an hour ago or so expressing unanimous support for Claudine Gay … while tacitly admitting her plagiarism issues. Here’s the Harvard Crimson report passing along their enthusiastic vote-of-confidence in the integrity of Gay’s leadership: “As members of the Harvard Corporation, we today reaffirm our support for President Gay’s continued leadership of Harvard University,” the board wrote in a University-wide statement on Tuesday. “In this tumultuous and difficult time, we unanimously stand in support of President Gay.” Aaaaaand
