The nation's largest drugstore chains, Rite Aid, CVS and Walgreens, will shutter more than 1,500 stores, leaving millions of Americans without access to healthcare in 'pharmacy deserts.'
Rite Aid said it will close 150 of its 2,100 US locations after they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this month.
The pharmacy chain has been unable to settle hundreds of lawsuits that accused them of overprescribing opioids and has struggled to keep up with competitors.A slew of drugstore chains slashing their locations has left millions of people living in areas where it's difficult to obtain medication, areas known as 'pharmacy deserts,'

Typical sensational DM headline. Millions without health care! Then get your prescriptions by mail. Drug stores are not required to stay open in the urban jungle.

Competition? isn't that what the free market is all about?
As for the crime, we all know the who and where and that's happening most because of poor choices in voting. When you give criminals a slap on the wrist and tell them don't do that, they will ignore you and do worse.

I wonder if the people suffering these 'deserts,' including food and other things, will ever figure out why the stores can't stay in business. I live in the midwest, didn't know we had 'smash and grabs' going on here. I happened to have the local St. Louis news on this morning and an Ulta store in Fairview Heights, IL had been broken into. Haven't heard of any more, but I don't do the local news. However, St. Louis is #1 in crime so I imagine this isn't the only one.

Walgreens is the dominant pharmacy chain where I live. They have bright shiny stores everywhere, some even within walking distance of others. But there is a pharmacist shortage. Walgreens has cut their pharmacy hours drastically, opening late in the AM and closing early PM and closed on weekends. The stores stay open but not the pharmacy departments. Even the Walgreens “24 Hour Pharmacy” is not a 24 hour pharmacy. Life in Biden’s America…

So, if like around me there are a CVS and a Walgreens across the street from each other in about 10 locations in the area....if half the CVSs and half the Walgreens go away....perhaps the others can succeed.
And as to shoplifting. They need security who is a big guy and a company willing to press charges.
Of course, in many Soros conquered cities, "mere" shoplifting is not prosecuted. THAT may be the root cause in this.

If there's a Walmart around, there's a pharmacy. Lots of our grocery stores in this area have pharmacies. But we don't have yutes smashing and grabbing everything.

The Walgreens near us gets a lot of complaints. They are short staffed and prescriptions are usually not ready on time. There's a drive thru option but the line gets really long. They have a good variety of over the counter meds and personal care items, but prices are very high.

*****Millions without access to healthcare!!!!!*******
1: But I thought 0bamacare fixed that for everyone!?!?!? /s
2: No 'brick and mortar' store? Order on line... That'll work until your friends and neighbors start robbing the delivery trucks / delivery people, like they do the stores.

I don’t typically shop at Walgreens, but the last time I was there, I couldn’t buy fricking batteries without calling a clerk over to unlock the case.

Reaping what they have sown. Black yutes destroying the access of elderly blacks to food and medicine. The stores should have hired armed security from the get-go. It's cheaper than losing half of their profits and would have stopped the free shopping sprees.

Mail order pharmacies can deliver your Rx to your home. At least while the P.O. still sends carriers to your neighborhood.

Watch people's health start to improve in these areas.
Doctors are little more than pill pushers these days and many of the pills they push are poison. Statins being the most egregious offenders.
Did you know that statin drugs increase life spans by a grand total of FOUR DAYS... while having to deal with the side effects resulting in a lower quality of life.

This reminds me of the couple who kept having kids because they did not realize the linkage between sex and reproduction.
