Israel, the tiny democracy in the Middle East with terrorists along all its borders, has more stringent gun-control laws than anywhere in the United States. Unlike our Second Amendment, there is no recognition of the right to keep and bear arms.
After the horrific terrorist attack by Hamas from Gaza, Israel’s government suddenly made it slightly easier for its citizens to own firearms for self-defense.Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir announced Sunday in Hebrew an emergency declaration that will “allow as many citizens as possible to arm themselves.”
(snip)
Ben-Gvir’s emergency policies for the Firearm Licensing Department went into effect in 24 hours.

That is an important step even if it is somewhat late.
The famous quote most everyone has heard from Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the architect of the Pearl Harbor attack when asked why it was not accompanied by an invasion of the West Coast of the US is appropo: "If we invade the American mainland, we will face a rifle shooting from behind every bush and blade of grass."
He also said, "I fear that all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and to fill him with a terrible resolve."
Israel may not be a sleeping giant of a nation, but it appears something of the same resolve is forming amongst the Israeli people. Also, God's promise to Abraham and his descendants is still in force: "Those who bless you I will bless and him who curses you I will curse."

Thats mighty white of them. They cant defend themselves most days, but when the government says so, they can defend the government. I guess thats the difference between a subject and a citizen.

I’m trying to wrap my head around the fact that in of all places on Earth, Israel doesn’t require all citizens to be armed to the teeth! How does that even make sense? Have they caught the liberal anti-gun disease? Unbelievable.

Israel is surrounded on all sides by those that want them dead. Why in the world didn't each household have guns and ammo and the training on how to use them? If ever a second amendment was needed this is it. This is why FJB and others like him don't want you to have a means to protect yourself. Because when they come for us they want a clear field of fire. Think about it. They had "safe rooms" but no means to protect themselves when they needed it most. While the barbarian were at their doors they were scooping up their children and running to their safe rooms. Can you imagine what might have happened if they had the ability to shoot back?

With these laws “as many as possible” is still very few. In Vermont, by contrast, the requirement is breathing. When will Israel learn?

Too little, too late. I have read that only 1-2% of Israelis have been allowed a gun permit for a pistol... limit 50 rounds.

If you need bomb shelters everywhere, you need an armed citizenry.

Please forgive the second post. Israeli political history is important here. In broad terms, it was European left-leaning Jews who formed the backbone of the nation. Hence, their Labor Party's hold on power until 1973 and relatively slow economic growth. After the Labor government blew it at Yom Kippur, Likud, the conservatives, finally got a foothold. It is only under Likud that Israel has become a powerhouse of innovation and wealth creation.
Leftists do not like constitutions, so one was never officially adopted. (Remember, the left was in early political control.) That leaves room for leftists to do whatever they want without any sort of legal bulwark. All the hullabaloo about the Supreme Judicial Court is over that court's gradual accumulation of power to rule over every aspect of Israeli life, its drive to perpetuate its power by controlling who gets appointed to it, and ultimately usurp all power---even over the military's actions. So there are demonstrations over domestic political matters like this, with the usual false narratives from the left in their reluctance to give up their unwarranted power that rightfully belongs to the elected members of the government.
Now come the Muslims attacking in this savage and brutal way and we see the world's leftists, wokesters, and appeasers flocking to restrain Israel's righteous response to a despicable act of war.

The reason the Nazis killed all the Jews during ww2 was because they didn't have guns same as Sunday. These measures are only a fraction of what they need to do.

The second law tne brand new Israeli legislature passed in 1949 was to disarm all citizens, collect all weapons.
The government has always been against armed citizens, there is NO 'gun lobby' or anything remotely like one.
There are something like 100 total permits in the country for a private citizen to own a rifle.

Israel is smarter than the United States on many things. I would think that having enemies all around them and nothing but flat land and a small body of water separating them would cry for armed citizens on every border.

The adults in Israel have been through training to defend their country if called upon to do so.
The Hamas terrorists and their comrades have now provided the reason why they were trained.

It is way late for this, Israel. But it is a start. Israel's problem - it has an unwritten constitution consisting of group thought by its historical betters. Instead, it has the written Basic Laws of Israel that address government arrangements and human rights. The Knesset needs to get off the dime yesterday and develop and pass a WRITTEN constitution that includes the right to bear arms.
Knesset, if it helps to speed things up for you, you may consider for your purposes our Second Amendment language as follows:
"A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Israelis are locked and loaded in defense of their country....and the world order dudes had better understand they have unleashed a tiger....their plan isn't working out for them...as they had planned...and no amount of demonstrations by the squad can change America's support of Israel.....nor will Israel back down...

Yes...a little late. The government that doesn't trust its own citizens is not to be trusted. A while ago Switzerland had an armed citizenry...not so sure now as lately they're throwing someone in jail for calling a fat lesbian a fat lesbian. Ninety-nine percent of the Demodrats here...and half the Republicans are not to be trusted.

Actually #20l, if you talk to an Israeli citizen about it, they'll tell you that this is another fiction. Any conservative Jews can easily opt out of mitlary training and most do. Many others manage to avoid it, too.
The idea of "every adult is a soldier" is an outdated idea, not actually true.

To #4 and others, here I think that Israel got to point by believing, erroneously, that a population is safer
when 'weapons' are strictly controlled by, who else, government !
The first 'class' of weapons to be COLLECTED and CONTROLLED is, of course firearms. Very little
thought or consideration is given to knives, explosives, flammables, hammers, screwdrivers, rocks or just
plain ol' fists, or the ledge of a tall building ( for those considering suicide ) !!
I hope and pray that this 'belief' has been thoroughly stomped to death with the tragedy that is currently
unfolding.
People who want to kill or maim others will FIND A WAY regardless of WHAT may be 'outlawed' !
Let the populous protect ITSELF by having them able to procure and use GUNS.
Government, ANY government CANNOT protect you, let alone protect EVERYONE, no matter what
they may claim. NEVER forget that.
Given Israel's geography, and its neighbors ( and their hatred of Israel ), I would have just about
every citizen possible armed in anyway they wanted as long as they could afford to buy and feed
their 'protective device(s)'.
There would be exceptions of course. You can't just hand out weapons on a street corner, free of charge but the
overall effect would be a HEAVILY armed populous which, I'd be willing to bet on, heavily, that overall crime
would drop like a stone. Yamamoto understood this regarding invasion of the United States - '...there would be a
gun behind every blade of grass'.
Israel, this is your wake up call, A disarmed populous IS NOT the answer, nor the solution, and it just
might not be survivable !

Take two countries, First, Switzerland. They have the most liberal gun laws in the world, over 25% of citizens have guns in their homes and almost anyone can get a gun, even non-citizens. Switzerland is surrounded by mostly sane human beings, also Switzerland hasn't been invaded or at war for over 200 years. If anyone wants to know why, hang your head in shame and go sit in the corner for the rest of the day.
Now, Israel. Citizens can't own guns. Israel is surrounded by insane, psychopathic creatures whose sole reason for living is to kill as many Jews as possible. Israel is constantly, almost daily under some form of attack by these creatures, for want of a better word I call Orks and Israeli's are unable to defend themselves. And now the citizens are reeling from an attack that has taken more lives since the Holocaust in WW2. Do you think that if the citizens had the right to arms in their homes, the Orks might have had taken a few moments to think maybe invading them might not be the safest thing to do? Now, let's ask our so-called representatives in Congress why they want to disarm us.
