The Ukrainian Gordian Knot

Most Americans understandably favor the Ukrainian resistance against Vladimir Putin’s Russian naked 2022 aggression. Yet for Ukraine to break the current deadlock—our generation’s Verdun with perhaps 600,000 combined casualties so far— and “win” the war, it apparently must have the military wherewithal to hit targets inside Russia. Such strategically logical attacks might nevertheless provoke a wounded and unpredictable Russia finally to carry out its boilerplate and ignored existential threats. From the last 75 years of big-power rivalries, the operational “rules” of proxy wars are well known.

If the US continues to provide aid (10% of which ends up in the pocket of The Big Guy) the war will continue. The killing will continue. The destruction of property will continue. Redirect the aid to the US which needs it for border security, crime fighting, and inflation reduction, ad infinitum. We don't need to be Santa Claus and the World's Police force. Return to the isolationism we had for centuries.

Ukraine has been the center of the tug of war between East and West for a long, long time. At one time during WWII fighting Russia - with the Nazis. At other times they've been under Russian rule. We should have never have stuck our nose in there and let the chips fall where they may - Ukraine being independent or Ukraine being a part of Russia, it's not our concern. With us arming Ukraine against a nuclear power, Russia might just say, "Screw it. Let's pop off a couple of low yield nukes and take what we want. We're going to one way or another." If that happens, things get very, VERY interesting by the West's response.

Most Americans do not support the Ukranian resistance, and we certainly don’t want to continue to waste resources and money on this pit of corruption. I feel sorry for the Ukranian people whose leadership has done this to them. Karma will catch up with these clowns soon.

Um, no, most Americans do NOT favor the Ukraine resistance. Most Americans see exactly what is going on and are disgusted by US support for it.

Hey, Vic, I think it was NATO's (US) aggression that started this thing. Get your facts straight.

Sheeee's baaaaack! Yes, America's cold sore, Hillary Clinton, is back in the news. She's hoping the newly resurrected Clinton Global Initiative (the fake charity but real influence-peddling operation that temporarily closed its doors while being investigated for engaging in pay-to-play fraud) can make a financial killing off all the real killing going on in Ukraine. CGI is ready to help the widowed, orphaned, and suffering people of Ukraine by collecting large sums of money that will go a long way to supporting the Clintons' lavish lifestyles. What remains of their tax-free charitable "services" can then be distributed among their army of cronies desperate for an easy payday.

In George Orwell’s dystopian novel “1984,” he portrays English society – renamed Oceania – as a futuristic version of the 1940s Soviet Union. In this invented society that Orwell calls IngSoc – English Socialism – the populace has even less freedom than the Soviets permitted its citizens and life consists only of drudgery, loneliness and hideousness. The novel grips the reader with fear and loathing of a totalitarian future enabled by technological advances and prompts one with the question: “Can it, will it happen here?” It goes without saying that the United States in 2023 bears little resemblance to 1984 Oceania.

Ukrainian troops are surrendering in droves, Russian TASS news agency claims, to the extent that Moscow has set up a special radio frequency so Ukrainian soldiers wishing to survive the Meat Grinder can do so safely. Approximately 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have surrendered to the Russians using the special 149.200 “Volga” radio frequency, which has been operating since mid-summer, TASS reported. “Now more than 10,000 Ukrainian servicemen have already chosen life and used the 149.200 ‘Volga’ frequency to surrender. The captives are being fed; they are being provided with all necessary medical care,” a source told TASS, saying the radio frequency works along the entire front.

On Tuesday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed several gun control measures into law, one of which restricts where gun owners can carry their firearms. According to the Los Angeles Times, one of the laws Newsom signed, S.B. 2, came in response to the Supreme Court’s New York State Rifle & Pistol Assn. vs. Bruen ruling last year, which struck down a gun control law in New York. The new law “seriously limits who can obtain a license to carry a concealed firearm” and details more than two dozen “sensitive” locations where guns cannot be carried. This includes child care centers, public transit, museums, zoos, medical facilities, among many others.

In April 2019, Ukraine was brimming with optimism as it elected Volodymyr Zelensky, a candidate who promised peace, an end to government corruption, and economic prosperity. Fast forward four years: a civil war within the Donbas region turned into a European war raging on Ukrainian territory, destroying the country’s infrastructure, killing hundreds of thousands of its citizens, and creating millions of refugees. Government corruption is an all-time high, and the country is in a state of material poverty. When Ukraine gained independence in 1991, its national debt was $0.4 billion; in 2018, before Zelensky was inaugurated, it was $76 billion,

A Manhattan judge on Tuesday found Donald Trump committed fraud for years by exaggerating the value of his wealth – clearing the way for a civil trial where the former president could be ordered to pay $250 million and banned from doing business in the Empire State. Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron found Trump, 77, his family and his business, the Trump Organization, liable for fraud – the key claim in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ sprawling lawsuit against the defendants. In a 35-page ruling, Engoron sided with James, who argued that Trump made several indisputably false statements in business documents to secure favorable terms

I used to make a joke about gambling and friendship – my best friend bet me $50 that I’d never beat my gambling addiction. I find it funny for reasons that, were I to explain them, would take away all the humor in the joke. I thought this up at a time when, if you wanted to gamble, you had to drive for hours to a small Indian casino, fly to Las Vegas or Atlantic City or, growing up in Detroit, drive to Windsor, Ontario, in order to gamble. Or, of course, you could know a bookie and bet on sports. Now, thanks to the desire of state governments

Two weeks ago, I had breakfast with George Zimmerman — yes, that George Zimmerman, the Florida man whose life was ruined by a national media eager, as always, to highlight the killing of a black person by a white man. Within a week or two of Trayvon Martin's death, the media had transformed the innocent, Hispanic, Obama-supporting civil rights activist Zimmerman into the poster child for white nationalism. In my 2013 book, "If I Had a Son": Race, Guns, and the Railroading of George Zimmerman, I document all the editing tricks Big Media — NBC, ABC, CNN, the New York Times — used to pull off this evil alchemy.

America has been in a veritable cultural revolution since the 1960s. Nearly all our major institutions finally became woke—the administrative state, traditional and social media, universities, K-12, the corporate boardroom, entertainment, professional sports, and the foundations. So the Obama and the Biden administrations finally seemed to have achieved their aims, in what the Obamas once boasted would be the “fundamental transformation” of America into something unrecognizable by its Founders. But what they gave us was nihilism—the destruction of norms, laws, and customs. There is no border, no criminal justice system, no real president any more.

This past week AG Merrick Garland testified before the judicial committee of the US House of Representatives. Garland provocatively and erroneously declared that he was not the president’s attorney nor was he the Congress’s prosecutor. Garland sanctimoniously declared that he and his DoJ served only the American people. My understanding of our U.S. Constitution is that it is very clear that AG Garland, like DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and all other officers of the cabinet, are appointed by the president and by extension ‘shall take care’ to faithfully execute our laws. President Biden from the earliest days of his administration has tried to create a ruse by declaring a split

She was the first woman president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the first woman mayor of San Francisco, and one of two of the first women elected to the U.S. Senate from California. "Dianne Feinstein, right from the start, was an icon for women in politics," said former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Senator Chuck Schumer adds, "She's a legend. A legend in California as the first woman senator. A legend in the Senate. She was the leader on so many different issues."

Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein has died at the age of 90 after a long struggle with health issues and a distinguished political career that saw her break many gender barriers. She passed away Thursday night at her Washington D.C. home, according to her office. She had voted that morning in the Senate. 'There are few women who can be called senator, chairman, mayor, wife, mom and grandmother,' her chief of staff James Sauls said in a statement. Army Gen. Mark Milley delivered a full-throated defense of democracy and not-so-subtle swipes at former President Donald Trump during a packed ceremony on Friday as he closed out his four, often tumultuous years as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Under cloudy skies at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Milley never mentioned the former president by name. But he practically shouted on two different occasions that the U.S. military swears to protect the Constitution 'against ALL enemies, foreign AND domestic.' 'We don't take an oath to a king or a queen or to a tyrant or a dictator. And we don't take an oath to a wannabe dictator,' he said.

The Biden administration announced its latest regulatory action targeting home appliances late Friday, this time targeting popular home gas-powered furnaces. The Department of Energy (DOE) said the energy efficiency regulations would slash household utility costs by $1.5 billion on an annual basis while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the residential sector. The proposal, according to the agency, require non-weatherized gas furnaces and those used in mobile homes to achieve a far higher level of efficiency than cheaper models on the market. "At the direction of Congress, DOE is continuing to review and finalize energy standards for household appliances, such as

It is finally really happening, it seems. The Democrats have dug their own grave by forcing the only true populist candidate on their ticket out of the primary and into direct competition with incumbent Joe Biden (or whichever puppet they replace the current puppet with) in the general election. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been threatening — due to maltreatment from his own party, including being viciously smeared with every pejorative under the sun — to vacate the Democrat Party plantation and plot his own third-party run as an independent. Here’s what he said a couple of weeks ago during a Forbes interview:

The death of Sen. Dianne Feinstein places Gov. Gavin Newsom under intense pressure to quickly name a replacement as a bitterly divided Congress votes on a spending plan in the coming hours to avert a government shutdown. Newsom had hoped to avoid the politically charged decision of selecting a second senator. But he will need to move swiftly as a budget standoff has the government on the verge of shutting down, and Senate Democrats could need every vote. New York Democrats are planning to distribute flyers at the US-Mexico border telling illegals to “consider another city.” On Wednesday, Mayor Eric Adam’s office announced this plan to “combat misinformation at the border.” The flyers will be in both Spanish and English and will warn the illegals that New York City is the most expensive city in the world so they will be better off somewhere else. How interesting that a sanctuary city run by Democrats who have been all for illegal immigration is now troubled by the flood of illegal aliens. Leftist ideas sound compassionate coming from those Democrat leaders until it’s at their front door.

As a result of the late-night votes, the State Department, Department of Defense, and Department of Homeland Security were funded for the next fiscal year, although the agricultural spending bill failed to pass. The House previously passed an appropriations bill for military construction and veteran affairs in July, bringing the approved total to four out of 12 bills.

The United States House of Representatives has approved an additional $300 million aid for Ukraine. The decision came late Thursday night with a 311-117 vote. The aid for Ukraine was initially part of a larger Pentagon funding bill for the fiscal year 2024. House GOP leaders, including Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), had initially planned to hold a separate vote on the Ukraine aid. The decision to separate the aid came after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and a group of conservative Republicans sank a procedural vote to advance the Pentagon funding bill, The Hill reported.
