House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) is expected to endorse an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden in a closed-door meeting with House Republicans this week. McCarthy plans to tell those present that the move is the “logical next step” in the Republican Party’s probes of Biden and his son Hunter’s alleged influence peddling schemes, Punchbowl News reported Tuesday and Fox News confirmed. At the private meeting set for Thursday morning, House Judiciary Committee chair Jim Jordan (R., Ohio) and House Oversight Committee chair James Comer (R., Ky.) will each provide an update regarding their respective investigations

Ukraine has struck Russian naval targets and port infrastructure in the Crimean city of Sevastopol, in what appeared to be the biggest attack of the war on the home of the Russian navy’s Black Sea fleet.
A Ukrainian intelligence official said a large vessel and a submarine struck in the attack were so badly damaged as to be likely beyond repair.
The pre-dawn strike highlighted Kyiv’s growing missile capabilities as Russia continues to bombard Ukraine from afar with long-range missiles and assault drones.

A federal judge in New Mexico issued an order Wednesday blocking Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham's recent suspension of certain gun rights in Albuquerque and its surrounding county.
U.S. District Judge David Urias heard arguments Wednesday afternoon before issuing his ruling granting a temporary restraining order. Lujan Grisham’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Democratic governor’s directive sparked at least a half-dozen lawsuits. Opponents have argued that the governor's 30-day ban on the right to carry open or concealed firearms in public in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County was in violation of Second Amendment.

Convicted killer and escaped convict Danelo Cavalcante was nabbed by authorities Wednesday after evading search teams for two weeks by breaking into suburban homes for food and hiding out in the Pennsylvania woods.

Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio claimed federal prosecutors tried to “coerce” him into implicating former President Donald Trump in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
Last week, U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly sentenced Tarrio to a record-high 22 years in prison despite not being in Washington, DC, on January 6.
“I don’t know what instructions I would give somebody at that point … I’m not speaking. I have no function. So there was no communication,” Tarrio said in a phone interview with the Washington Post.
Tarrio revealed that federal prosecutors tried to “coerce” him into implicating Trump during a phone interview from the D.C. jail.

BP chief executive officer Bernard Looney has resigned after less than four years on the job, the London-based oil producer announced Tuesday.
Looney took over as CEO of BP in 2020 after previously leading BP's Upstream group, focused on exploration and production. The resignation of Looney is effective immediately. The company's Chief Financial Officer Murray Auchincloss will serve as interim CEO, BP said. The change comes as Looney informed the company that he was not "fully transparent in his previous disclosures" about relationships with colleagues prior to becoming CEO, BP said.

The California legislature passed a bill Friday that would threaten parents with losing custody of their children if they question their child’s supposed desire to undergo disfiguring hormone regimens or surgeries to appear more like the opposite sex.
Assembly Bill 957 was initially proposed to require courts to consider whether parents were “affirming” a child’s identification as transgender in custody cases. The legislation was later amended in June to declare parents who aren’t deemed sufficiently “affirming” liable for child abuse.
In a tweet sent out over the weekend, Rob “Meathead” Reiner declared that “For our Democracy to survive, two things have to happen. Donald Trump needs to be Convicted for Jan. 6th and there can be no Third Party Candidate.”
Reiner’s comment was so blatantly anti-democratic that it elicited an avalanche of criticism, some of it from leftists who didn’t particularly like the idea of barring third-party candidates.
