Soaring crime in the nation's capital is leaving residents rattled, with locals driving small distances to avoid walking and others now too fearful to step outside even during the day.
Homicides and robberies are up 29 and 67 per cent from the same time period last year, with murders approaching levels not seen in two decades - while other big cities such as New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and Baltimore are seeing declines.
Neighboring Baltimore could end the year with under 300 killings for the first time since the riots over Freddie Gray's death in police custody in 2015.

FTA:
“Stephanie Heishman, 44, a Northwest Washington event planner, said she now drives the minute five blocks distance for her usual Sunday evening dinner with a friend, after a gunfight outside her Adams Morgan apartment last year, and the murder of three men on her block last month.
'It's so ridiculous,' she said of the driving. 'On the other hand, I don't want to randomly get shot.'”
Unless you work for the DNC (think Seth), you needn’t worry.

I have an idea, let's create a city with a 90% black population, 100% black leadership, hobble the police and see how well that works out. If murder rates are indeed dropping in the other cities it can only be that the violent criminals are finally killing each other off. Let's hope that continues. The great defund experiment blunders on. Nice job Libs.

Several years ago, a reporter from a local paper here in Seattle told about her experience while she was in D.C. for a meeting. As she was leaving her hotel the doorman stopped her and asked her where was going. She told him just across the street, he told 'no Ma'am, you take a cab there and get a cab to come back.'

Some more anti-police measures are due, pull money, reduce the force, and it will all be better, right?

Liberal cesspool. Good luck getting those in charge to own up to it.
They will contend that the crime is due to racism, coupled with not enough money.

I guess it makes sense. You have the street thugs robbing you if you go outside, and the politicians robbing you from the big buildings. Plus your God given, inalienable, Supreme Court affirmed right to own and carry a gun has been taken away for decades. I notice both kinds of criminals are still allowed to carry.

The once "Shinning City on a Hill" has turned into a crime ridden, drug infested, den of political scum and villainy. Instead of being cautious get out and avoid at all costs. Also thank the corrupt democrats like mayor Muriel Bowzer and chief of police Pam Smith on the way out.

A lot of fruit from the tree of the Million Man March. So many welfare grifters hopped on the bus those many years ago, and never left.

FTA:'I'm like, 'How did I get this wrong? I live across from the Smithsonian and there's an Hermès store two blocks away,' she told the paper.
In other words, the crime is supposed to stay bottled-up in the ghettos areas. But now it's spilling into neighborhoods where white liberals hang out. What shall we do?

There were sections of D.C. that no one with any sense would walk around forty or fifty years ago. As for Chicago, Philly, and Baltimore. Maybe they're running out of people to shoot. All the decent targets have been eliminated. Now it's just a matter of time waiting to see who takes the place of the ones who have already been eliminated. I know in Baltimore, once work is over, it's ghost town by dark. My friends and I would normally attend a few baseball games in Baltimore in the past, but not now. One has to park four or five blocks away from the stadium and walk. We decided we didn't want to take the chance this year because once the game is over, you're walking back to your car in the dark with your head on a swivel.

This is an absolute shame and scandal that our nations so called 'Capitol" is a cesspool of crime and danger. A national embarrassment. Shameful. Who's responsible for this mess? Why is it permitted?' Thanks DimOHcraps.
Of course you can't talk about who the criminals are. That would be "rayciss"
The rest of the world mocks us for our weakness and stupidity..

Poster #17 and I saw the same thing: she lives near expensive stores, so why is she subject to this mayhem?
I wonder if she has an ICE car to hold spots at the charging station for her Tesla.

Perhaps, just possibly, after a few more years of violent chickens roosting in their homes, just MAYBE a few of these folks might possibly consider changing their views of law and order, and long periods of imprisonment for violent felons.
But people who are leftist Dems are amazingly dimwitted and resistant to external facts impinging upon their pre-existing wrong headed ideas, so perhaps they'll continue to support leftist causes.
Stupid people do stupid things. Again, and again and again.

Re #10, they have tried to outlaw guns and self defense but the Supreme Court has forced DC to issue CCW permits and people must be allowed to own and carry guns. The city puts as many impediments as it can in the path of would be legally armed citizens, but they cannot stop it.
Total cost is reported about $600, and they delay as much as they can, may take 4 months to run all the hoops. And the city tries their best to make as many prohibited places as possible, and make the laws and limits as vague and confusing as possible.
But you CAN be legally armed in DC.

then they must be semi-reclusive at night, if they're "too scared to go out during the day", ah, our nation's capitol city, a model for the good life, for city dwellers
can't say as I have much sympathy for these people but the people really suffering are the resident blacks, who have lived there for many decades and call it "Home Sweet Home"

The causes of DC's crime wave are complex to pinpoint.
An illiterate line attempting to make an indefensible argument. (Is there there no hope, anywhere?) Seeing the photo of the incompetent mayor overlooking the "black lives matter" painted on the street below reminds me that there is at least one safe space in the city.
