Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah announced Wednesday he will not run for reelection to a second term in the Senate in 2024. "I spent my last 25 years in public service of one kind or another," Romney said in a video posted on social media. "At the end of another term, I'd be in my mid-80s. Frankly, it's time for a new generation of leaders." Romney, 76, was the Republican nominee for president in 2012 and won election to the Senate in 2018. "While I'm not running for reelection, I'm not retiring from the fight," he said. "I'll be your United States senator until January of 2025."

Why would he run again? Most people in his own party don’t like him.

Trump back in the WH while Mittens watches unable to cause problems in the Senate.
That would be awesome.

It's a sensible decision (for once). He's worth a fortune but the clock is ticking. Might as well enjoy the years he has left instead of bitterly clinging to power.

This is really funny. Do you think he'd back out if he thought he had a ghost of a chance of winning the next election---which he does not have. The people of Utah found out right after he was elected that they'd made a HUGE mistake. Bu-bye Mitt!

He couldn't get elected dog catcher. Instead he'll collect his Senate pension of our taxpayer dollars without having done anything in the six years he is consuming oxygen and occupying space in the Senate.

Really? Everybody's taking his word at face value? The Mitt that I thought we all know would do this only for his advantage -- like maybe to set himself up for entering 2024 POTUS race with a claim that he was already in the process of retiring, but HAD to change his mind, because the nation needed him too much as President right now... gag.

Was it the horse's head the Utah voters left on his doorstep? I worked for a company in Utah (90% Mormon, excellent people to work with). They wanted nothing to do with this shallow fool.

He probably intends to become the Alphabet's preferred "conservative" talking head for our "opinion".

#11, he'll run for President with Manchin as VP on the No Labels Ticket. He's running as a spoiler with vast promises if he succeeds in debunking Trump.
Nobody should get excited.

Betcha he didn't make that decision -- the voters did. His pollsters probably told him he was toast, and so he decided to go with Plan B -- bow out graciously.

He discovered there was no amount of deception, trickery, and lies that would get him across the finish line. Good riddance. Or he discovered he would have to spend his own money for his re-election bid.

Romney was installed as Senator from Utah. Nobody knows what state Romney is from, except it is not Utah.
