German officials in Berlin on Sunday commemorated the 62nd anniversary of the construction of the Berlin Wall. Construction on the Berlin Wall first began on August 13, 1961. Communist East Germany, formally known as the German Democratic Republic (GDR), erected the 155-kilometer-long (96-mile) barrier in order to keep its citizens from fleeing into West Berlin. The GDR's border guard monitored the wall and would shoot those trying to escape. At the Chapel of Reconciliation in Berlin, the city's State Senator for Economy, Energy and Enterprise Franziska Giffey attended a memorial service along with other German officials. Giffey and the others then laid wreaths at the wall

I remember reading in depth stories about that wall in the Saturday Evening Post back in the day. And remember all the spy books? Good reading. Authors lost an entire genre when that awful wall fell.

''Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.'' Ronald Reagan's words can never be erased from history.

Remember also that the entirety of Berlin in those days, both West and East, lay 110 miles within Russian-dominated East Germany and was accessible only by narrow, strickly-controlled land and air corridors. Penalties for violations were both harsh and immediate. I lived and worked in West Berlin's Templehof Zentral Flughafen with the USAF's 6912 Security Squadron from 1965-1967 when West Berliners well-rembered the Berlin Airlift that saved their lives during the extended Russian blockade of their city, and also realized that Allied forces stationed in West Berlin were all that stood between them and a quite possible reprise of the death and destruction they endured when the Russian army overran Berlin just twenty years before. I will never forget the genuine gratitude and many kindnesses shown to me by West Berliners for the protection and security our military provided them.

#2 - If Biden gets four more years, we shall see. "Today is the anniversary of the death of Ronald Reagan, famous for encouraging vandalism on the property of the peace loving people of East Germany."

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday told an Australian woman complaining about "too many American flags" to go back to her country in response to a video of her posted to social media. TikTok user Mia Chloe, who goes by the username @meanderwithmia, often posts about "Traveling the world on a budget & no brain cells," according to her account page. In a video posted several days ago, she called out the abundance of American flags she observed in her travels to the United States. "I'm just going to say it. There are too many American flags. They're on houses. They're on cars. Some are on couch cushions," she said.
Who will go to prison, Biden or Trump? 3 replies

President Biden and former President Donald Trump are now in a legal death match, where, for either one to stay out of prison, his opponent will probably go to prison. The Biden Democrats have made no secret that they are willing to do almost anything to put Mr. Trump behind bars. The necessity of locking up Mr. Trump for Mr. Biden and his family to remain free has become even more acute given the added evidence of wrongdoing by the Biden family. Mr. Biden has to be reelected to be certain that no member of his family, including himself, is convicted of any felony with prison time or, if convicted, pardoned.

Just hours before former President Donald Trump was indicted for a fourth time in Georgia on Monday night, his former political opponent, Hillary Clinton, laughed merrily at him on MSNBC. "All over the country, people are wondering what Hillary Rodham Clinton is thinking watching things unfold in Georgia," MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said Monday to laughs from Clinton. "Oh, I can’t believe this," Clinton said, again breaking out into laughter. "Honestly, I didn’t think that it would be under these circumstances. Yet another set of indictments."

The capital of the most powerful and prosperous country to ever grace Earth is an unpleasant — even unlivable — place to call home. Over the past decade, Washington, DC, has transformed from a beautiful, bustling and vibrant metropolis into a city that often feels like a ripoff of Batman’s Gotham.Between 2013 and 2019, DC recorded between 104 and 166 homicides per year. In the three full years since, it’s recorded 198, 223 and 203 murders. This year, it’s on pace to bear witness to 256. All this has been accompanied by skyrocketing crime rates across the board.

Here’s what I dream of Donald Trump saying when he stands trial on bogus charges proffered by his political opponents: “I do not recognize this court’s right to try me … I do not recognize my action as a crime.” Those are the fighting words of industrialist Hank Rearden when he was put on trial for ignoring an unjust law in Ayn Rand’s novel “Atlas Shrugged.” Although the circumstances of the cases differ, Rearden is a perfect avatar of Donald Trump, as both larger-than-life men are persecuted by the justice system for seeking to pursue their own self-interest and for refusing to surrender to government oppression.

Joe Biden has about 17 months left as an elected politician—if he is lucky. That projection guides most of the inexplicable and shameless behavior of the Department of Justice and Biden himself. View Biden as in a race against the truth. Will he be physically and mentally able to complete his term and head to retirement before his decades-long crimes of corruption catch up to him? Joe Biden’s serial yarn that he never knew anything about his son Hunter’s quid pro quo grifting with rich foreign grandees has been finally exposed as the old lie it always was. Biden’s fallback untruth—that he never got involved in Hunter’s business—proved instantly laughable

We have all heard about contempt of court and contempt of Congress. They are offenses for which one may be fined or jailed. But what about contempt of public? What’s the penalty for that? I don’t know that you will find contempt of public in the statute books. If not I offer up the phrase free and for nothing to the bureaucrats who look after such things. I think it should be added to our vocabulary if not to our code of laws. It names a grievous assault on the community. By making a travesty of the rules and institutions that undergird our social life, contempt of public

In the wake of last weekend's summit in Saudi Arabia where nations gathered to discuss Kyiv's plan to end the Ukraine war, Russia is cutting an ever more isolated figure on the world stage. It seems to be striking a nerve. At the summit in Jeddah representatives from 40 nations gathered to discuss Ukraine's proposals for ending the conflict. In a surprise move even Russia's staunchest international backer, China, sent a representative. A Chinese presence pointed to a growing rift between Beijing and Moscow — meanwhile Russia was not invited. In comments to The Moscow Times, four former and current Kremlin officials familiar with Russia's diplomacy were troubled.

Of course, Ron DeSantis can come back and win. Anybody in the race can win – we saw Trump come back in 2016 when most everyone wrote him off in the general. Now it’s the Florida governor’s turn to be written off, but he’s not exactly in the same place that Trump was. DeSantis is a strong second right now. For him, it’s not a matter of a miracle happening, threading a bunch of needles to win the general when rational betters would bet against you like in 2016. No, Ron DeSantis has a plan, and there’s a method to his muddling through.

That is honest. That is true, and that is credible.

Meanwhile, Hawaii Emergency Services Administration said Friday: 'Neither Maui nor HI-EMA activated warning sirens on Maui during the wildfire incident.'
