I was not going to write about Oliver Anthony’s brilliant song, Rich Men North of Richmond, because I have nothing worthy to add. The video puts all other commentary to shame. North of Richmond refers to the federal government, which is too large, too powerful and too uncaring.
But Mark Antonio Wright, executive editor of the Never Trump National Review, butted in with a Learn-to-Code column attacking Anthony for daring to complain about DC’s treatment of the working class. It lectured Anthony to be more like Woody Guthrie, the Nazi apologist and communist.(Snip)what makes America great are the very things National Review now opposes.

Nat Review is DEAD. I was a subscriber for many years, but a long time ago, it became clear that we no longer agreed on many things. Their NeverTrump views made them as dead as Billy Kristol and his defunct rag, as far as I am concerned.
Uniparty pukes who are assigned to pretend to be conservatives.....just traitors.

"Reason," the magazine for leftists masquerading as libertarians, had a similar article about how the song wasn't really country western because it's not about getting drunk or being unemployed and was only popular because of it's unAmerican "right wing meme politics" . Elitist snobs gonna snob.

I came to loath NR at some point early in the Trump years, and so did not pay much attention to them.
This article points out their level of mental and ethical corruption far exceeds what I had concluded then.
If you think NR is just witless apes, read this article to see the sulfuric soil its roots reach down to.

I am a bit surprised that NR hasn't hired Ann Counter to add to their bordello of Trump haters. Use to enjoy Taki's Mag but they're going the way of NR with many of their columnists.
And to Mr. Wright - it is the middle class that is getting the life sucked out of it by all the disastrous policies of Joe Biden and many GOPelites Our tax dollars are being used for everything but staying in the USA and helping US citizens.

One of Nat'l Review's long-time writers came out denigrating small donors to political campaigns.
Just leave it to the elites, like him, he said.
How about, "no."

VDH had written for years about the hollowing out of the middle class in California. Leftists democrats, along with their eGOP fellow country club members, are taking the CA policies national. Ironically it was NYC billionaire who made this a campaign issue, got elected president (probably twice), actually worked to reverse this, and is now being personally destroyed by these same people. They want every would-be politician to get the message loud and clear, you don’t challenge the ruling class and it’s administrative state or they will destroy you. A (to them) country bumpkin with a guitar and a dog calling them out is an annoying distraction, so they have to tell us why he’s wrong. But they’re not too concerned, they count the votes and Biden reminds us it will take F-16s and nukes to challenge the government.

Here's a forty-one year subscriber to NR (1975-2016). That ended in 2016, when NR published its 100% anti-Trump issue. These people are actually so screwed up in their heads that they supported the PIAPS in 2016. Goodbye, NR. Been nice knowing you. I don't want to know you anymore. Gone bad. Disappear. Eff you.

The thing that galls the writers at National Review and Rolling Stone and all the other neo-con and liberal rags is that Oliver Anthony has the one thing they lack - an authentic voice.
I also snicker at these grifters saying that all Oliver's trying to do is cash in on his new-found fame, but it doesn't stop them from admiring and promoting no-talent musical hacks or washed-up rock icons trying to stay relevant and sell a few more tickets before they croak...as long as their music conforms to "THE MESSAGE!" (hat tip to the Critical Drinker for that).
I dare say you'll never see Taylor Swift open her shows with a serious reading from the Bible...

Thank you for posting.
I never subscribed to NR, but I did read it.
I remember w Bush 1 and then especially w Bush 2, I KNEW something was wrong, but never could put my finger on the problem.
The problem was: there was never a fight, discussion, or any want-to to change policy. (I remember on Sept 12, 2001, I thought Bush would lay waste to our enemies. I was wrong.)
After the war was underway, I thought he would address domestic issues that people longed for. Crickets.
It never occurred to me that the people I thought were friends, at least in political parlance, were really all up in bed with the Democrats. Politicians and trusted pundits alike. (At one time I listened to Georgie Porgy, but he became too officious.).
They were not only NOT actively working for the country. But actually working FOR themselves and their off-shore accounts.
Hence, my undying devotion to one, Donald John Trump.

We know who it was, #6.
Mr "I am the smartest guy in the room, and if you disagree with me or support Trump you are a gullible moron, "beclowning yourself," or just plain unhinged."
Much book knowledge without question, but little or no wisdom, and they are not the same thing.
One guess.

someone please correct me, if I'm wrong in what I'm about to say but ..... wasn't National Review the brainchild of William F. Buckley, the Conservatives Conservative, years ago when he graced our country with his very existence? what the Hell has happened? has it turned into just another method of starting a fire in the fireplace??

They think they rule us and in many ways, thanks to lying, corrupt, politicians and the deep state, they do. That can not continue. It has to go one of two ways. Either they 'win' and no decent will be possible or they lose and get what they deserve. IF they win, soyboy punks like this will be the first to be erased by more ruthless evil. That would be cold comfort for the rest of us.
If we win, the return to a justice system that at least tries to follow the constitution, will arrest and prosecute them and we can watch the rats turn on each other. That path would also have a media that would do it's job and expose them. Such a radical change would educate all the smooth brains that think lying politicians should decide how we live and if we should live.
Either way, Mark Wright has a date with justice in some form. This farce culture and fantasy economy can't not support itself in the long run. Long run being 5 years.
