An Arizona man says he was trapped in his Tesla in the extreme heat after the power died and he didn't know how to escape.(snip) "I couldn't open the doors. I couldn't lower the windows. The computer was dead, so I couldn't open the glove box. I couldn't open anything."(snip)Meggison said he eventually called his sister who somehow got the passenger door to open through the Tesla app, but it cracked his window. He said he had to call a tow truck to take his Tesla to the company's service center. His invoice reads, "Car won't power on… remove and replace 12v battery."

Time to form a consumer group that sues EV manufacturers for everything and anything. Tie them up with huge cost overruns to fix a litany of issues.

Multiply this by millions of people driving those things. What if the baby was in the car? What if you're on the way to the hospital with an emergency? What if you're in the middle of heavy going home traffic and it stalls in the middle of a busy intersection? These cars are a disaster and way too dangerous for regular use.

One thing that I don't think many people realize is that when you go to trade the EV in YOU are going to have to assume the costs of replacing the battery at prices I have seen up to around $40,000.00.
And just who is going to pay for ALL of these re-charging stations all over the country? YOU ARE!!!

If the mobile app worked then his 12v battery wasn't dead. Every computer in the car runs on the 12v. The main battery only drives the motors for propulsion. If the app worked then everything else would have worked. There's also an emergency mechanical lever that doesn't rely on power right there on the inside door handle.
This guy is a liar or idiot.

Its usually not a good idea to get new technology, no matter how exciting it may be or even how good it is. I'm thinking of quadraphonic records, Betamax, "smart" guns, the older cordless phones (could be monitored by any scanner), Blu Ray, Windows 1.1, low flow toilets, the list of failed ideas is endless. Let the stylish trendy types take the loss. I'll wait for the improved version.

Those EV cars seem to have about as many problems as the NASA Mercury program had when it incinerated a load of astronauts in a 100% oxygen filled spacecraft. That Tesla, with occupants sitting above a huge lithium battery pack storing an enormous charge of energy, needs ejection seats. I don't think anyone has done a proper risk analysis on those things.

#4 is correct about the mechanical handle inside. I recently was assigned a Tesla 3 when I rented a Hertz "Manager's Special". However I was given NO prep at all on how to use it. I'm computer-proficient, so I managed to fumble my way through the basics of using it, but I can definitely see how some people could have problems with the most basic functions of this "computer on wheels."
And for the record, having a week of driving the Tesla, I can authoritatively say that its asserted range (total miles it can be driven on a full charge) is a complete fraud. Even in mild weather in California on flat terrain we got nowhere near the claimed range and had to go to charging stations almost daily. Among the things they don't tell you is that (1) there aren't very many fast charging stations, and (2) none of the ones we went to would allow you to charge it beyond 80% of its capacity! Talk about range anxiety.
Buyer (or renter) beware!

The article states that directions for manual door release are in the Tesla manual. People need to read manuals before using their devices no matter whether a blender or a Tesla.

Good to know about the interior lever but I don’t understand #8’s point about the 12v battery and the phone. I can use my cell to make calls when I’m outside because the phone runs on its own battery. Why would the car battery matter?

9, the biggest problem with the emergency release is it looks like the normal door lever so people who never rode in a Tesla will grab that by reflex instead of the electrical release. The normal release drops the windows a tiny bit to save them from damage. My ICE car does this too so I assume this is a common feature. The emergency release does not.
Where in California were you driving? Never had a problem getting a supercharger spot and never heard of an 80% limit from the charger. The car was probably set to 80% because after that charging slows dramatically. It is adjustable via app or the car's console on a slider.

That Tesla could have been a lot hotter if he was inside when the batteries decided to burst into flames.

Seems like the Bricklin cars had extremely heavy powered gull wing doors and if the power died, you couldn't get them open, either. And if it rolled over, nothing could get you out until the car was righted.
Sounds like a similar issue, not well thought out.
Oh, well, I'll never ride in one, so not my problem. Life is about choices - an EV is a bad choice.

He didn’t read the instruction manual.
That he was stuck in the car is his own fault. It takes an idiot not to read the instruction manual, especially on new technologies like the Tesla.

Electric vehicles are a joke. They are dangerous and the technology is not advanced enough to make them commercially viable. They do nothing to help the environment and are actually far worse than gasoline or diesel powered vehicles. They are a unique little plaything and status symbol for virtue signaling liberals who have no idea what they’re talking about. The automakers are going to take a huge financial hit for jumping onto this ludicrous bandwagon. Idiots.

Sorry, but I don't have any pity for someone dumb enough to pay the big money to buy an EV. I could almost say the same for the dumb people that accepted the lies of the Vax too, but it damaged their health and some have died because of the vax, so for those people I have a lot of passion. I just hope people learned the lesson not to believe the hype and lies that the government through the media tells them. Research things from all angles before you buy them.
