Biden administration proposes tighter
efficiency rule for new home water heaters

The Biden administration on Friday proposed tightening an efficiency standard for new residential water heaters — a move that it said would both save consumers money and combat climate change. The draft rule would require that, in order to become more efficient, most common-size electric water heaters use heat pump technology and gas-powered heaters use condensing technology. The proposal from the Energy Department would cut 501 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions over 30 years, the department said. That’s the equivalent of the emissions of 134 coal-fired power plants in one year. The department also said the standards would

New regulations never save consumers money. They are just obsessed with controlling every aspect of our lives.

Ask these new regulations to "fight climate change" also look like they are intended to keep the economy churning at a high rate. They outlaw ICE cars and force you to buy EVs. They outlaw old water heaters and force you to buy new water heaters. Etc. It's all a con game. And they tip off their pals where to invest next as entire business sectors are shifted from one product to another.

We added 2 bathrooms and our contractor talked me into a new water heater that has separate tanks for upstairs and downstairs. It’s covered in a thick polymer type shell. I know nothing about water heaters but every repairman that’s been in our basement comments it’s the Cadillac of water heaters. I’m assuming with that covering it’s very energy efficient as well. Water temperature depends a on how many feet of cold pipe the water must travel, before getting to a faucet. The current water heaters are adjusted for summer temperatures. You have to get a plumber to increase the temperature for winter, and for more distant faucets.

ZURICH - Switzerland looked set to shift to the right in national elections on Sunday, as concerns about immigration trumped fears about climate change and melting glaciers, though the vote is unlikely to change the make-up of the Swiss government. The right-wing Swiss People's Party (SVP), Switzerland's biggest political party, increased its share of the vote to 29%, 3.4 percentage points higher than the last election in 2019, according to the final projection by Swiss broadcaster SRF. The party campaigned on a platform of preventing the country's population - currently at 8.7 million people - exceeding 10 million. "We have problems with immigration
