The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower’s push-off from the pier at Naval Station Norfolk was delayed Friday. “The departure was delayed to ensure the ship is in peak readiness when she joins the units from the strike group,” said Cmdr. Lara Bollinger, public affairs officer for the U.S. Second Fleet. The Navy didn’t specify when the aircraft carrier will depart. The Eisenhower is the flagship of the Ike carrier strike group, a combined force of more than 5,000 sailors. It has long been scheduled to deploy this week to the Mediterranean. I don't know if last-minute delays like this are unusual, but it looks bad.

Whatever the cause for the delay, you can be sure this explanation isn’t it. I have my own suspicions.

What do they mean it is not sea worthy? What the hell are they doing with all the money we give them to be combat ready at all times. Is this another equal opportunity commander running the show? This is totally unacceptable. Biden is in charge and he needs to be held accountable. It borders on treason.

I've seen it before. In 1969 the USS America was due to depart Pier 10 (in Norfolk) for a 13-month cruise to WestPac. A large number of the crew didn't show up. Officers crossed the pier and shanghaied a number of crew from the USS Independence to make up for the loss so they could get underway. A bunch of guys who thought they were going home that night instead were gone for over a year.

Good grief! When a family member was a carrier commander, he would never have even considered leaving for the Med without being fully battle ready. Always ready. They are warships not cruise ships.

They may well have had to do a verrrry serious security screening of some of the sailors scheduled to deploy....OR...they may be having to task an enhanced submarine screen to precede/accompany the carrier group, maybe even chase away foreign subs that have just showed up lying in wait across it's path.

Years ago, the media was running stories about the USS New Jersey cruising in the Caribbean. Something that I found odd. Later that day I saw the call sign up in the message center for the Jersey, which confused me. I asked and was informed that the Jersey was steaming thru the Straits of Gibraltar in the next 24 hours. Within days, they New Jersey was lobbing 2000 lb shells at Lebanon. That was the first time that I became aware of the U.S. government deliberately misleading the public. And it hasn’t been the last. Moral of this story is, don’t trust what your being told.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken told his staffers Thursday night that he knew many were shaken professionally and personally by the Israel-Hamas war — a message he sent amid unhappiness among some Muslim and Arab employees over how the U.S. is approaching the crisis. Blinken’s note to staff wasn’t a response to reports of the frustrations, a person familiar with the issue said. He had planned to write to department employees about the Middle East crisis but wanted to wait until he returned from a visit to the region, said the person, who was granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive

Before epilepsy was understood to be a neurological condition, people believed it was caused by the moon, or by phlegm in the brain. They condemned seizures as evidence of witchcraft or demonic possession, and killed or castrated sufferers to prevent them from passing tainted blood to a new generation. Today we know epilepsy is a disease. By and large, it’s accepted that a person who causes a fatal traffic accident while in the grip of a seizure should not be charged with murder. That’s good, says Stanford University neurobiologist Robert Sapolsky. That’s progress. But there’s still a long way to go.
