Federal judge rules Oregon gun law doesn’t

A federal judge in Oregon ruled on Friday that a new state gun law does not violate the US Constitution, keeping one of the toughest gun laws in the country in place. US District Court Judge Karin Immergut ruled that Ballot Measure 114’s restrictions on large-capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds are constitutional because these magazines are “not commonly used for self-defense, and are therefore not protected by the Second Amendment.” “Even if LCMs are protected by the Second Amendment, BM 114’s restrictions are consistent with this Nation’s history and tradition of regulating uniquely dangerous features of weapons and firearms to protect public safety,” the ruling said.

High capacity mags not commonly used for self defense? My AR has 30 rd mags. My mini 14 has 30s and 42s. My FAL and CETMEs use 20's. I guess it doesn't take much smarts to be a communist judge.

Hey Judge, the Second Amendment has nothing to do with self defense, but rather protection from an overreaching government.

Ten round magazines for guns have been the law in Maryland for fifteen years. The demosluts of the state passed that law thinking it would reduce gun violence. If the law was passed to reduce gun violence in Baltimore it has not worked. Baltimore is going to record the eleventh straight year of 300+ murders this year. Maryland's 10 round mag law was probably used a precedence to pass the Oregan law.

Every caliber is different, as is every handgun. The last thing you want as an innocent victims of a crime is to have 10 bullets but need 11. This one will get struck down rightfully (with "Judge" Jackson dissenting). This kind of crap always does.

So Lord Black Robe Demigod Immergut , if 11 rounds is too much than what is the correct historical number? 9? 1? 7? Please clarify for us peons what wisdom you and you alone have to know the correct number of rounds we can Constitutional use for self defense?

Looks like her honor is angling to be appointed the SCOTUS by a progressive-leaning POTUS. Like Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Ketanji Brown Jackson, she rules based upon "tradition" rather than upon Constitutional law: "these magazines are not commonly used for self-defense, and are therefore not protected by the Second Amendment." So the plain words of the Constitution vary according to common uses for self-defense? Hmm.

Barack Obama released a rare public letter denouncing the “profoundly misguided” attempts to ban books in libraries across the country. “Today, some of the books that shaped my life – and the lives of so many others – are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. It’s no coincidence that these ‘banned books’ are often written by or feature people of color, indigenous people, and members of the LGBTQ+ community,” the former president wrote. The report was scant on details, but in one section, jurors expressed concerns over perjury on the part of some of the witnesses. Later that month, Bonchie wrote about Emily Kohrs, a member of that special grand jury, giving interviews to NBC News and CNN.

Iowa was, for a long time, a political swing state. Speaking as one who grew up there and lived there until my 26th year, and most of whose family still lives in Iowa, I can say with some confidence that Iowa is a place of great momentum. In small towns and rural areas like the one I grew up in, not much changes from generation to generation. Not industries, not farming practices, not families. But Iowa is an important state politically, mostly due to its status as the opening bell for presidential primaries. Another day, another example of Disney’s substituting a political message for creativity. This example is from The Daily Mail, which puts a bit more meat on the bone regarding the already controversial live-action remake of “Snow White and the 7 Dwarves.” The earlier controversy stems from Disney’s self-conscious hire of a Latina actress to play Snow White–an example of the fact that race-swapping is perfectly acceptable when doing so displaces a White actor, but “cultural appropriation” when a White actor plays a non-White character. I found the earlier controversy to be an example of the tedious character of these racial debates because sometimes it matters–race swapping in JRR Tolkien stories makes no sense–while

Recently, Arizona Republican Eli Crane was rebuked for referring to “people of color” as “colored people.” That’s a controversy which would, at any other time in the history of the English language, be incomprehensible to a sensible reader. After all, there’s no practical difference in the phrases. In fact, the choice to give preference to the phrase “people of color” is worse than practically useless to an English speaker -- it’s needlessly more burdensome to both the talker and the listener. Consider this formula with any other trait. Would you refer to yourself as a “person of dark hair,” or a “dark-haired person?”
