Betsy DeVos says she hopes Americans elect a president in 2024 who will shut down the Education Department and strip powerful teachers' unions of their control in order to champion freedom and choice in American education.
'I don't think the Federal Department of Education should exist,' the former education secretary told DailyMail.com during an exclusive interview.
'I'm hopeful that we elect a president who is also committed to either scaling back dramatically or ultimately shutting down the Department of Education.'

When one has power, it must be exercised. Betsy should have done more. She was good, but she should have been ruthless
She knew when she in that the Dept needed to be shut down. Now the chance has gone. Maybe she can convince Trump to reappoint her.

It is a great idea. But, it doesn't seem like she did a lot to help in her time as the administrator.

Betsy DeVos was the media and leftists (same thing) punching bag for 4 years. It's the President that needs to get rid of the Dept of Ed. I wholeheartedly agree with her. IF they took the 50% of budget that is allocated for the Dept of Ed and gave it to the school districts directly and allowed the schools to become community run the kids would have a much better education. OR get rid of all public school and go private, allow parents to pay for the education of their choice with tax credits so every student has access to the school of their choice. Let performance of the school dictate their success or failure.

It is like speaking the unthinkable, when most of us are programmed the believe that the DOE is essential, and benevolent. It has become the opposite with its woke agendas. Children, thus our country and world would be so much better reviving the three R’s, while retaining the remarkable technology advances.

Start with cleaning out the colleges with their marxist and socialist professors who are putting feces in the heads of those studying to become teachers.

Good luck with shutting down Education, etc. Heck, the a majority of the GOP keeps voting to fund Planned Parenthood, NPR, etc because they have such thin skins and don't want to be yelled at. You killed Big Bird!!

Money corrupts absolutely and the teacher's union has the democrats by the short hairs...WE need school vouchers and then the teacher's union will wake up...it will be a battle for the children of this country...I saw this coming years ago and moved my children into private Christian schools...they are all successful professionals today...and my grandchildren are following in their footsteps...it just takes one generation with a foot up the ladder and the rest will follow....

The ignominious Jimmy Carter started this "thing" and it's been the "evil that keeps on taking," ever since.
The only way this can be shut down is to simply shut off the department's funding and let them "go broke for being woke."

Be VERY careful of this Neocon GOPe anti-union sentiment. In many communities the teachers' unions are the ONLY thing keeping a Woke school board or administrator from firing every teacher who voices ANY views that don't toe the Woke Progressive line. Want to eliminate every MAGA America-First teacher? Ddo away with the union that provides the ONLY protection from those sorts of political shenanigans.
This Neo-con anti-union blather is a holdover position from a time when America was awash in good-paying blue-collar manufacturing jobs. Time to align our positions with 21st Century conditions on the ground.

Or offer a parallel to the national teachers union.
This is an incremental fix. Spending cuts are essential.
Federalize school choice unless states opt out
less funding for brick and mortar
more pilot programs for virtual schools for minorities

From #11 we get the following:
" Be VERY careful of this Neocon GOPe anti-union sentiment."
I'm not quite sure what to make of that.
I guess #11 thinks Randi Weingarten and her crew do everything they can to provide the best possible education for our kids.
Sure.

I know we are not supposed to chat, but some clarification of my comment at #11 is in order. Conservative Americans were tricked by Neocon elite into supporting positions against our interests.
Yay war in Iraq! Uh, wait a minute where’s the end game? Yay NAFTA, free trade for all! Uh, wait a minute, where did my job go? Boo unions! Uh, wait a minute, with all the factories closed and MY job moved to China, my kid now works at a non-union distribution center and has to pee in a bottle because he doesn’t get breaks.
Yay global capitalism and free global markets! Uh, wait a minute, there’s nothing free about the rigged international trading systems that have Americans paying several times more than other countries.. Boo tariffs, they increase prices! Uh, wait a minute, President Trump’s tariffs reduced prices.
It was Mark Twain who said “it ain’t what you don’t know that gets you in trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.” Our heads are full of Neocon GOPe stuff we know for sure, that just ain’t so. “Unions bad” is part of it.
