Four in ten donations to presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign are “first-ever donors to the GOP in any form,” the presidential hopeful announced on Friday. In a video posted to social media, Ramaswamy announced that his campaign crossed the 65,000 unique donor threshold this week. He's relatively young, knowledgeable, smart, and quick. He would devastate anyone in a debate. But I couldn't spell his name if my life depended on it. Not that that is important. I wish him well. But, everyone knows the nominee is Our Beloved President Donald Trump.

I read that Ramaswamy had connections, financial or otherwise, with George Soros some years ago. If that is true, and the sources seem reliable, then for me his candidacy is DOA.

A federal judge in Oregon ruled on Friday that a new state gun law does not violate the US Constitution, keeping one of the toughest gun laws in the country in place. US District Court Judge Karin Immergut ruled that Ballot Measure 114’s restrictions on large-capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds are constitutional because these magazines are “not commonly used for self-defense, and are therefore not protected by the Second Amendment.” “Even if LCMs are protected by the Second Amendment, BM 114’s restrictions are consistent with this Nation’s history and tradition of regulating uniquely dangerous features of weapons and firearms to protect public safety,” the ruling said.

Iowa was, for a long time, a political swing state. Speaking as one who grew up there and lived there until my 26th year, and most of whose family still lives in Iowa, I can say with some confidence that Iowa is a place of great momentum. In small towns and rural areas like the one I grew up in, not much changes from generation to generation. Not industries, not farming practices, not families. But Iowa is an important state politically, mostly due to its status as the opening bell for presidential primaries. Another day, another example of Disney’s substituting a political message for creativity. This example is from The Daily Mail, which puts a bit more meat on the bone regarding the already controversial live-action remake of “Snow White and the 7 Dwarves.” The earlier controversy stems from Disney’s self-conscious hire of a Latina actress to play Snow White–an example of the fact that race-swapping is perfectly acceptable when doing so displaces a White actor, but “cultural appropriation” when a White actor plays a non-White character. The supporters of former President Trump are absolutely correct about one thing. If every single Republican pledged their allegiance to him and fell in line he’d win the nomination easily. But he’d also lose the general election, again. He does not receive enough support from outside the traditional Republican and MAGA base to win in 2024. Hillary Clinton beat Trump by roughly 3 million in the popular vote in 2016. While Trump indeed did win the election by taking the required 270 electoral votes, just a few thousand votes in each of the key swing states would have changed that outcome into a Hillary Clinton landslide victory in 2016.

Homeless encampments are back in Venice Beach - after nearly 200 people were cleared from the iconic boardwalk last summer. Almost a year later, footage from the Los Angeles town show dozens of tents back up, and some 120 vagrants overtaking the beach once again.
