If, like me, you find the presidential debate format a rather meaningless exercise, you will be astonished at what one-on-one interviews by a skilled interrogator can accomplish. At the Iowa family Leader conference, Tucker Carlson interviewed several leading contenders for president Tim Scott, Asa Hutchinson, Mike Pence, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Ron DeSantis. If the participants thought this was going to be another tongue bath, they were certainly surprised. He asked hard questions and some of their answers exposed their muddled thinking. At least two of them – Asa Hutchinson and Mike Pence -- were clear losers

I like Vivek Ramaswamy's positions. I doubt he'd win the nomination but whoever wins would be wise to bring him into the fold.

If you can't get thru a Tucker interview, your not prepared for a hostile media that will lie, take statements out of context and look for any gotchas they can find. Tucker is performing a valuable service. Weeding out the weak or forcing them to toughen up. I would pay money to watch him evicerate Christie. And Trump needs to get the same treatment to prepare him.

When will Gov DeSantis be grilled on the insane property insurance tsunami sweeping Florida? Some friends in smallish older modular home parks with paid off homes are being swamped with premium increases as high or higher than mortgages. Media doesn't seem to realize that not all of FL is MarLago level incomes. How will those entering retirement be able to stay in their homes when they can't pay or their insurer has pulled out of the state?

Pence gave an awful performance. He sounded like he was out of breath - nervous, perhaps? He's so tone deaf he probably went away thinking he did fine, but he seems physically, intellectually, spiritually and morally close to death. Very very disturbing. #5: Florida has a big red bullseye right in the middle of it for hurricanes. Most insurance companies don’t even sell insurance in Florida. If you choose to live there, the cost of insurance will always be a problem. Don’t blame the companies. Blame Mother Nature.

Amen! #3. 6.... when these fakirs cannot think on their feet when asked a straight question that deviates from their pre-prepated answers, their candidacies OUGHT to fall . Tucker pulls no punches and asks fair, thoughtful questions-- not the "gotcha" type questions we continually see when the libtard 'journolist ' media types moderate these sorts of things. It would be quite interesting if Tucker had asked these same questions to the Vegetable!

And a PS Math definitely isn't RACIST. During my engineering career I worked with Black guys from the USA, Trinidad, Various Africas and some of them could math my butt off. I was a calculus B, they could have taught the class.

In all fairness, I am asking the question of why Donald Trump wasn't there. If Donald Trump is asking to be president for another four years, he should have been interviewed also. . . No more elitism. As an average American citizen, I want the voting process to be fair again. There should be no exceptions, favorites etc. Money, power, and prestige seems to have taken the voting process of the American people's hands.

Tucker Carlson culls the Republican Presidential field. Is that his job? Thought that was the job of the voter. Do agree most of the field isn't serious and the only real choice at this point is Trump in spite of his problems. Trump needs to realize he is alone in Washington and none of his advisors are trustworthy. He will need to trust his own beliefs and not rely on anyone else. DeSantis reminds me of a fat cat Republican that takes direction from Democrats and globalistas. The rest...just 'no'.

Clarice gets most of it right. Mike Pence was a non-contender going in, he just reaffirmed it. Hutchinson is nothing but a never-Trumper who swings with the breeze and repeats tired old talking points. Haley hasn't done anything spectacular in her career, just applied some recommended business practices, except for the plan to embed teams of "efficiency experts" in a business to second-guess management, like the Two Bobs in "Office Space." For a refresher, read "The Efficiency Expert" by Edgar Rice Burroughs. If your management isn't performing, replace them directly. As for Rammasmarmy, he has successfully compiled a list of Donald Trump's accomplishments and plans and proudly states them as his own but the man is smart. Tim Scott and DeSantis are good men who will eventually rise to the top with a few more years under their belts. What #7 said about Florida hurricanes. It's the same story with people who rebuild along major rivers and get swept downstream every couple of years in floods. Believe SunTzu, stick with the high ground.

It's the job of any responsible journalist to inform the voters before they wander into the voting booth. We got Obama and the Vegetable because the journalists from the Left hid these candidates' frailties, stupidities, and treacheries from the voting populace. Even if the DOJ and FBI had hid the Hunter Biden laptop and bribery news from the voters, responsible journalists should have brought it to the attention of the voters through investigative journalism.

Re #16. Nothing concrete or scientific. Does DeSantis remind me more of Trump or the Bushes/Mitt Romney/McCain and take it from there. It was my very first impression of DeSantis before anything was said about him. I could give DeSantis the benefit of the doubt like I did others that proved to be RINOs. Not doing that this time. Especially as long as there is a real alternative in Trump.

#17, who says Donald Trump is the frontrunner? Oh, polls. I am reminded that the election in 2022 didn't pan out with a red wave. One concern I have about Donald Trump is the entitlement factor. I firmly believe he should be humbled and participate.

#18 At a certain point you and many posters in this salon, should star showing proof of your allegations about DeSantis and his associations with Romney, the Bushes, Dark money, Carl Rove, the Deep State, and the Establishment. I’ve asked this question here repeatedly with no factual responses so far. (BTW, Trump once hired Rove to help in his campaign)

President Trump has sat for many interviews and pressers, often fielding questions from mostly unfriendly media. Brit Hume once expressed astonishment that “he takes every question and answers every question”. He never ever “put a lid on it” and walked away as Zhou does. Where was everybody? Does anyone here think he will be any different, that he is weaker, that he now cares less for his and our country? And what’s this about being “humble”? A word I learned to hate when I read Dickens and met that mendacious ‘umble creature, Uriah Heep. I far prefer Trump’s being what his daughter described: blunt. “Uncompromisingly straightforward”, according to my dictionary. President Trump was interviewed by Maria Bartiromo. Today and next Sunday on Sunday Morning Futures. Why not have a look. Get real! We need Trump this time because we are in a world of hurt and he’s the only one who knows the territory and the players. The others are greenhorn wannabes with no presence or qualifiations or respect on the national and the world stage. Do we really seriously want a newbie with training wheels in the White House? Did no one learn where PDJT was during his term?

Oh, I am real. I never said I wouldn't vote for Donald Trump. What I am saying is that if there is a forum like this one where Tucker is questioning the candidates, I would want Trump to be part of it. Look up the definition of humble: 1. Marked by meekness or modesty in behavior, attitude, or spirit; not arrogant or prideful. 2. Showing deferential or submissive respect. 3. Low in rank, quality, or station; unpretentious or lowly. As stated in above paragraph, I never said I wouldn't vote for Donald Trump but there are times his behavior points me somewhere else especially when he is attacking another Republican candidate. It is bad enough that Democrats are bashing Republicans but for each other? I have also said many times that he will have four years and that is playing into my decision. By the way, since insurance costs were hung on DeSantis from another poster, I do not live in Florida; yet, my auto, umbrella, and homeowner's insurance went up significantly. I think it is happening across the board and not just in Florida. Posters like you #21 or #22, whatever, do not intimidate me. I have been around this forum for PROBABLY longer than you and I try to be gracious in my comments. I have freedom of speech just like you.

Posting here since early 2001 and not trying to intimidate anyone. Just exercising free speech when I say I don’t want a president who has to humble himself. I want a fighter. President Trump has proved himself in the office. Four long years wth enemies attacking “from both sides of the aisle”. I believe the unknowns are the ones who need to be vetted and questioned. They have never held the office.

This man is the personification of President Theodore Roosevelt’s “man in the arena ... whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly,” whose personal sacrifice has touched the lives not only of Americans, but people throughout the world in a positive, meaningful way that his adversaries refuse to recognize and appreciate. With all due respect, to further expound on the definition of “humble” has exacerbated the hurtful dialogue. Mortal man is what he is, innate personality as well as acquired persona due to bumps and bruises experienced in one’s life. Having grown up in the construction industry President Trump’s verbiage may be distasteful at times but likely the result of interaction with people who are a vital part of America’s fabric, people who are appreciated and without whom this country could not survive. President Trump is not an elitist snob. President Trump does not need to be vetted. President Trump is the only man for this time, a time when this country hangs in the balance of its survival as founded and in a world teetering on World War III. The uncertainty of all that can happen with the 2024 presidential election is of paramount importance and to add the uncertainty of a novice as a Republican presidential candidate is naïve and too foolish to risk. #21,#25~ Well expressed reality check.

Sorry #11, I would be right there with ya if it were any other politician than Trump. He has been interviewed by TC more than a few times. He has never been one to avoid tough stuff unlike we are used to every single four year primary process with our wimpy Republicans. Trump basically running as incumbent and his record recently as President makes him much more of a known quantity. That said, betcha if had not had a big speech Saturday night, he likely would have been there.

I didn't see any of these interviews. When I have time, I may try to find them and watch. Pence and Hutchinson were toast before and are moreso now. The rest, except DeSantis, are running for VP. Vivek's answer about Jan. 6 is spot-on. It is also the reason Trump is leading this pack, by a lot.

This is my last comment on this article and the only reason I am commenting is because the article is posted to the Must Reads. I want to explain my intimidation statement. It just seems that if a person is not 100% Donald Trump, it is beyond belief and the follow-up comments reflect it. I need to get real? I believe I have been posting since 2001 also. I am trying to figure out who I will vote for because I am not 100% Donald Trump. Mainly, because he will only have four years. Lately, I do not care for how he is defending himself. Yes, I agree he has gone through more than any person should have to but he should have expected it. It is called the Palin treatment and she wasn't even running for President of the USA. As for being humbled, I never said he shouldn't fight for his character. What I am turned off by is the name calling - DeSanctimonious for example. Name calling does not represent Donald Trump's character at all. That is all I have to say. . .

Reading the posts this morning, I think someone didn't have their coffee :) I watched on C-Span the interview of Tucker and Pence and it was disturbing. Pence seemed to sigh when he answered a question as if he was being bothered by an inferior and was annoyed by Tucker's presence and questioning. Not a good look by a former V.P. BTW, as a Christian, Pence seemed unconcerned about Priests and religious leaders being arrested and jailed for their speech. He argued with Tucker about that news coming out internationally. Pence seem unconcerned. I question Pence's care for The Body of Christ.

Sounds good...haven't figured out how to watch Tucker...yet...but I will....bet Fox is wringing their hands now that they can see what Tucker can accomplish....or....perhaps they knew and were scared of him...so much for the republican Fox debate...looks like there won't be any need for lying Ryan's spotlight in the show...with no one on stage...sorry Cristi Creme Cristi...you might be the only one who shows up....

We Conservatives have to acknowledge that a large part of the country despises Trump as much as we despise Brandon: all the Democrats, maybe half of the Know-Nothings(independents) and many Pubbies. It's because he's rocks their boat or he Tweets too much. I'm DJT all the way, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't vote for the contender who could defeat the Commiecrats. It's always been that way until DJT came along and I happily voted for him.

This is an election for this moment in time and not four or eight years from now because this country and/or the world may be something beyond recognition or reclamation in four or eight years. There is no question that some of President Trump’s language makes his supporters cringe, but the substance of the man is what is desperately needed at this time—he knows where the bodies are buried. Tucker Carlson is doing the Lord's work. Asa Hutchinson tried to hew to the God-says line, but showed his inner Joseph Goebbels. Asa gets to keep the money. The House Oversight Committee led by Rep. James Comer (R-KY) held a hearing with IRS whistleblowers on Wednesday. Two IRS whistleblowers, Gary Shapley, and Joseph Ziegler, testified on the government prosecutors’ preferential treatment of Hunter Biden. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has suspended the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s eligibility to receive federal funding after the lab failed to turn in requested documents about safety and security measures. HHS issued a memo on Monday notifying the lab of its decision and warning that it is also seeking to permanently blacklist the lab from receiving future taxpayer funds. The lab hasn’t received funds from the National Institutes of Health since July 2020. The lab can challenge the suspension and proposed debarment.
