A proposed amendment to the Ohio Constitution that critics say would enshrine a “right” to effectively unlimited abortion in the Buckeye State has secured the requisite number of petition signatures and is now being reviewed for placement on the November ballot. Drafted by the Ohio chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and backed by the Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights (OPRR) advocacy arm Protect Choice Ohio (PCO), the proposed Right to Reproductive Freedom with Protections for Health and Safety Amendment posits a “right” to make “personal reproductive” decisions,(Snip)Fox News reported that the 400,000 signatures collected by supporters are now being reviewed

Another attempt to repackage murder as a form of healthcare. The signatures are highly suspect.

Tying this bill to children and denying parents input into such major decisions plus allowing late term abortion is not the best way to get such a bill passed. Not the smartest approach. Too broad and over reaching. Would not be surprised it does not pass.

A "majority" of Ohioans oppose it, but only a pittance of Ohioans show up to vote.
That's how AOC flitted into office.
Unless you get out and vote, you lose.
And by enough of you to be beyond the cheat factor built into the other side.

It's their state and it's what SCOTUS intended. They want to screw it up, it's their business.
I don't live there so don't much care.

#5, I do live there and I do care. Like many states, OhIo is basically conservatives or has traditional values except in the big democrat run cities. Abortion is murder. Affirming transgender rights for minors is abuse. I will vote my conscience and believe the vast majority of Buckeyes will do so too.

Good. Let there be a vote of the people. We’ll see how much support this really has in Ohio.

I hope they check the signatures as carefully as they do when a liberal lackey is being recalled!

The petition path to constitutional amendment currently requires signatures from only 1/2 of the counties, and only 5% of the states voters(based upon last vote count for Governor). And once it is on a ballot requires only 50%+1 to be adopted.
There is a special election in august on a Legislative Constitutional Amendment proposal, that alters the Petition amendment path...requiring a 60% margin, and signatures from all 88 counties. It will be the only thing on the Aug 8th ballot.
Ohio has four paths to amendments..Legislatively proposed, which requires 60% to pass, All counties and districts get a vote. Signature petition/ballot initiative proposed which requires only 50%+1, Judicial, wherein amendments can be removed as unconstitutional, and the constitutional convention path,( wherin the legislature by 60% can call for a convention, petitions from 1/2 of the counties with a 5% turnout can call for a convention, or on each 20yr anniversary of the 1st state constitutions date of ratification)
The August legislatively proposed amendment ballot does not remove the ballot initiative low 50%+1 threshold for new "Laws", just for "Constitutional Amendments" which would(will) have to meet the same 60% threshold as they do in the Legislature.
Because of the fairly unique low threshold process, Ohios constitution has been amended over 200 times, and now is over 70,000 words long(280 pages). Compare to the US Constitution 7,000 words, amended only 23 times, though there has been over 11,000 attempted amendments.
The push poll person that recently called me to "Inform me" against the Aug ballot could barely speak english, sounded like he was a teen, and could not pronounce "Constitution/Constitutional" reading from his script...he kept say "con-suation/con-suational"

#13 is all over this issue. It seems unfair that all counties are not represented for an issue to be put on the ballot. Furthermore, since only about 2/3 of the eligible voters in Ohio vote, 60% of that number means that less than 40% of Ohio's residents need to vote for an initiative for it to pass. Again unfair. Issue 1 could encourage more voting ... which would be good if it were legal. I'm voting for it!

We Ohioans need to pass Issue 1 on August 8th, to make sure they don't cheat their way to 50% p!us 1 in November. FYI, Issue 1 almost didn't make it on the August ballot because several RINOs in the Ohio house were holding back until the last minute.

The director of CatholicVote Ohio warns that the ACLU’s proposed amendment would prohibit parents from making most important and life-altering decisions on behalf of their children that includes abortions and sex change operations. Additionally, it would invalidate current and future health and safety protection for women plus permit abortions in the state through an entire pregnancy of nine months which is “well after the point at which the unborn child can feel pain.” The amendment is “so unpopular” ACLU grassroots support was not reliable so out-of-state signature collectors were paid to “lie to Ohioans about the dangerous amendment...
