Washington D.C. car theft in 2023, so far, is up 118% from 2022. That's remarkable. And these aren't car burglaries. These are carjackings: "(F)olks getting yanked out of their cars with a gun in their faces." Try to get a carry permit in D.C. You can't. But the criminals are strapped, and they're looking for your things. In 1969 my eighth grade class took a trip to the Nation's Capitol. We stayed at a six story Howard Johnson's just down the street from Watergate. Our assistant headmaster told us all that when we got to D.C., we were not to stick our noses out the door. Washington was known to be a rough place in '69. It's orders of magnitude worse now. The proper solution to this problem is to stay out of Washington. Just don't go there.

When my sisters still worked for the government, we made several trips to DC and used their parking spaces. (Weekends, of course.) The museums and attractions are well worth the trip. Would not consider going today.

My method is 100% fool proof....never, ever drive in DC any more. And in the middle sixties, my brother and I would ride the buses into DC on a Saturday to visit the museums. I was in 9th grade and he was a couple of years younger and we were safe. Dems destroy everything they gain control of.

It's been 20 years since I was there: same story as other posters. I was followed to my hotel by some young, dark, swarthy, students. Fortunately a DC cop car caught on and escorted me back to the hotel about a block away. The worlds leadership city, right?

Having no discernible skills pays well, as does offering no good or service to your customers. If that sounds odd, let me add a caveat: If you’re a Biden. The family of President Joe Biden has managed to rake in millions upon millions of dollars, a lot of which comes from foreign companies and governments, without registering as a foreign agent or seemingly providing literally anything in return. That’s a pretty sweet deal. Weirdly, this “perfectly legal” activity is something none of them want to talk about. If I were having millions thrown at me for some magical reason I’d want everyone to know why, if only more rich people

A recently amended California bill would add “affirming” the sexual transition of a child to the state’s standard for parental responsibility and child welfare—making any parent who doesn’t affirm transgenderism for their child guilty of abuse under California state law. AB 957 passed California’s State Assembly on May 3, but a co-sponsor amended it after hours in California’s State Senate on June 6. Assembly Member Lori Wilson, D-Suisun City, wrote the bill and introduced it on Feb. 14. State Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, co-sponsored it. Wilson’s child identifies as transgender. Originally, AB 957 required courts to consider whether a child’s parents were “gender-affirming” in custody cases. Wiener’s amendment completely rewrites California’s

Fresh from the looming trainwreck that is the deal to increase the debt limit, four Republican senators recently signed onto legislation that would require the Biden administration to study the feasibility of . . . a national tax on energy that would be collected at the gas pump and in electricity and heating bills. The four Republicans — Senator Cramer (R-ND), Senator Cassidy (R-LA), Senator Graham (R-SC), and Senator Murkowski (R-AK) — joined five Democrats in asking Team Biden to determine the amount of energy used — and carbon dioxide emitted — by various countries in the production of essentially everything that makes modern life possible (aluminum, iron, steel, plastic,

Southern Baptists are meeting in New Orleans for their annual convention this week. Megachurch Pastor Rick Warren, author of the bestselling book The Purpose-Driven Life, is waging war with the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), hoping to push the denomination to the left on the issue of female pastors. Warren, now “retired” but still listed as the Founding Pastor on Saddleback Church’s website, is pressuring the SBC to allow female pastors, contrary to clear biblical teaching that pastoral roles are reserved for men. Warren has been all over Twitter, TikTok, and YouTube this past week, viciously attacking his opponents (while calling for love and reconciliation). He’s become increasingly combative, calling his opponents

Regardless of what you think about the Trump indictment, it’s hard not to believe that it smacks of the Democrats’ endless attempts to nail Donald Trump for — something. We’ve gotten used to it over the past few years, and these legal maneuvers always seem to play out the same way. “We’re all familiar with the ‘Trump facing…’ news loop by now,” writes Freddy Gray at The Spectator. “America is stuck in Trump legal groundhog day — he’s remorselessly prosecuted, over and over, on so many fronts. He always responds the same way, protesting his INNOCENCE in capital letters on Truth Social, saying he can’t believe this is happening in America.

A leaked video shows that at least one Washington, D.C., cop—and likely more—acted on January 6 as apparent agent provocateurs, dressing as protesters outside the Capitol Building and urging protesters toward the iconic building. See the video below. Congressman Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) says the authenticated GoPro video raises the question of why police officers, who were identified as intelligence officers, were working to stir up the crowd of protesters instead of working to stop an assault on the Capitol. At one point in the video, the unidentified police officer equipped with the camera said to

With fires raging in Canada and blanketing America’s northeast in thick orange smoke, leftists are again beating the “climate change” drum. Saner minds point to Justin Trudeau’s refusal to practice good forest management. But what if it’s neither of those things? It turns out that there’s compelling evidence suggesting that eco-terrorists set the fires to corral weary Westerners back into a climate change panic—and it won’t be the first time that’s happened. It was inevitable, once the fires started raging, that the leftists would raise the specter of climate change. Justin Trudeau insisted climate change was the culprit and again demanded a carbon tax to save the world. Bloomberg announced

Every week I listen to the podcast from the Bible Project, and hosts Tim Mackie and Jon Collins are currently in a series exploring the theme of the city in the Bible. Confession: this hasn’t been my favorite series of theirs because they approach the subject from the perspective of urban dwellers, which doesn’t interest me as one who lives along that exurban line between the suburbs and rural areas. The overarching theme of this series is that the city tends to represent both the best and worst aspects of human nature. (If you’re not interested in my theological columns, don’t worry. Anyone who says that minority groups do not play an important role in our government here in America know nothing of us. We fought a war with 700,000 dead to settle that issue. It's because of minority rights that we have both a Senate and a House of Representatives. One represents each state equally, the other the people by population. We even have the Electoral College that prevents larger states from dictating to smaller states. Of course, we have Democrats working to absolve that minority right. Dems are big on mob rule. We have been swimming upstream for years here at American Thinker, arguing that conversion of the automobile fleet to electric vehicles is a mistake, harming the environment more than helping it, and utterly impractical for a variety of reasons, including charging time and an entirely inadequate electrical grid, already at the breaking point. Yet the green image (and the subsidies) continue, impervious to the reality. (Snip) However, there are signs that the gravity of the practical problems with E.V. conversion are sinking in. Rowan Atkinson, who has become a global icon portraying "Mr. Bean," a character Atkinson describes as "a child in a man's body," is publicly raising these questions.
