Actor Tom Hanks lectured new graduates on truth during his commencement speech at Harvard University Thursday. (snip)
The actor attempted to motivate graduates to pursue "sacred" truth instead of the truth that has evolved from today's society. “For the truth to some is no longer empirical. It’s no longer based on data, nor common sense, nor even common decency,” Hanks said. (snip) Hanks acknowledged that an effort to pursue truth "is optional. But the truth, the truth is sacred. Unalterable. Chiseled into the stone and the foundation of our republic." All throughout the speech, the actor quoted from the Declaration of Independence and the Bible to get his point across,

Well, now…. It seems Mr. Hanks has broken ranks. This is a guy they can’t attack; too much money, too much power and too many Oscars.

To hear such speech from the super liberal Tom Hanks means this world really has turned upside down when liberal ideologs start speaking rationally.

I hate to admit it but my favorite commencement address was delivered by ultra liberal Tom Hayden: Graduates we have given you a perfect world. Don't (explicit deleted) it up.

Leftist Hanks complaining about how The Left has become entirely deranged, insane and uncoupled totally from reality?
Amazing. And I'm sure that his "solution" is more leftism.

Hey Tommy boy you supported every hate America cause while you were getting rich. I do not think the fact that you play dress up and read words someone else wrote makes you any better than my Shih Tzu Luna. Please sit down shut up and go away.

Spare me, Tom. You were in the bag for The Messaih every step of the way. He trotted you out whenever he needed credibility/likability, and you performed just as you were instructed. When you say truth you mean liberal truth, which is an oxymoron. In fact, this speech sounds an awful lot lot The Won’s speech a couple of days ago. He was lamenting that there was no longer one truth, as well.

Actors should stick to acting. Hanks does not know anything more than we do about politics. I, for one, am much better educated than he is.

Sorry Tom! Truth is empirical, but like everything empirical, it is not unalterable. Before Torricelli, "nature abhorred a vacuum. When pumps didn't work, Galileo said maybe nature only abhorred a vacuum for thirty feet. The Torricelli did some experiments and discovered air pressure. And so it goes! As we experiment, we get more empirical experience and "truth" changes. Ever since Michelson and Morley "proved" the earth was standing still (until Einstein published special relativity) this has been recognized. However, you just can't make up "truth." The things you "knew" to be true previously need to be explained, not ignored.

Well well well. Yet another life long progressive abhors the logical conclusion to his politics. The sophistry of progressive "choice" has leaked all over all the Earth, just like they wanted. Only now do they see the the inevitable result of chaos that accompanies the death of critical thought.

The face (and promoter) of the massively bogus DaVinci Code movies gets sanctimonious about the damage caused by twisting of truth now? Were he to renounce that story and his part in spreading the impression that it's real, I might pay more attention to him on this.

He's not a smart man, but he says he knows what love is. There is no such thing as "my" or "your" truth. The ultimate Truth is the Word.

I think he means truth is no longer objective. But since "empirical" was on the script, and sounded more esoteric, that's the line he delivered.

"Truth is empirical?"
Maybe scientific truth, but certainly not moral truth.
I had to look up the word: "empirical" means "observational", approximately.
To be observational requires a point be chosen from which the observations will be made.
For example, if a transvestite observes a drag show in a kindergarten setting, his observation, affected by his own biases, will determine that the basis for the show is justified...in effect, it is "true." From my perspective, and the perspective of every civilized culture in the history of mankind, it is not.
Moral truth, in reality, is absolute, not empirical. Sin will be sin no matter what is the perspective from which it is observed,

Does he tell them who they can blame for today's society? That would be extremely helpful since the destruction of society continues. We are a massive extended train wreck.

TH earned his fame and fortune reading what others told him to say. He is as much a part of the problem as anyone else. Maybe greater, given we live in a Society that worships celebrity.
When he starts saying that, then I'll believe him. Who wrote his address?
