Republicans’ "obsession" with work requirements are "offensive" to poor people and could produce a backlash, CNN political commentator Ashley Allison said on Sunday.. I think it's offensive when able-bodied people are deluged with freebies and they refuse to contribute anything to society. They could at least pick up trash, remove graffiti, or wash windows.

Gawd for bid we insult poor people, why are they poor? Almost every business I have visited since the pandemic has a "Help Wanted" sign in it's window. Maybe if the "poor" worked a little harder instead of sittiong back getting government handouts they wouldn't be poor.

What I find "offensive" is writing a big check to the IRS last month knowing that a chunk of what I earned is being used to pay people whose only "job" is to vote democrat on election day.

Ashley Allison is not too swift about how the system works. People, rich or poor, work for a living. The welfare system is out there to help individuals and families back on their feet. It is not there to support people who don't want to work; and people on welfare should be made to perform some type of work for the money they get from the government.

Clinton was forced to sign a Workfare bill by a Republican Congress. It drastically reduced the number of those who were able bodied from getting Welfare. Obama killed the restriction and now why should anyone work if they're getting paid not to?

It has been a societal truism that those who contribute no skin to the game tend to ignore being respecters of other people's property. Unless someone has a definite reason why they cannot work, like severe health problems or a disability, then they should get out there and contribute to their upkeep. Even prisoners contribute labor which is applied to their board and room at their prison.

The Democrats do not care why poor people are poor. The fact that they are is enough to put them on the government dole and earn votes for it. Working for what you eat may instill some pride. That could be dangerous. What left and right coast liberal media toadies think is irrelevant.

Years ago, in the early 90's the Governor of North Carolina, a democrat, had the LARGEST drop in welfare and return to work of any state. His solution worked better than any other, and it was simple, cost nearly nothing. He had cards printed up, they went out with every check, were read aloud at every contact with social service people, the cards simply said" "You are going to HAVE to get a job, the sooner you do so the better the choices will be" I don't remember the exact numbers any more, but I think it was 43%, in under 3 months.

CNN is correct. A large segment of the American population is lazy, entitled and has no sense of ethics or responsibility. Forcing such people to work would be psychologically damaging, demeaning and could cause mental stress that could cause violent reactions. Starvation is cruel so I would prefer euthanasia, a much safer, quieter and merciful solution.

The idea that polluters should pay reparations for climate change is gaining steam among advocates. Some environmentalists and academics argue the companies or states that are most significantly contributing to the climate crisis should be made to compensate the people bearing the brunt of its impacts.
