Risky business: Appearance of ‘risk’

Over its almost 200 years of existence, Oberlin College has faced a civil war, an economic depression and pandemics. But until this year, it had never faced the likes of Kalinda Watson. Student editors on The Oberlin Review have risen up against the addition of Watson to the college ranks as an existential threat. No, Watson is not a conservative or a Republican — groups that haven’t been welcome on campus for many years. Oberlin is ranked in the top three most liberal colleges in the country, and finding a conservative professor is about as likely as finding a licensed, practicing wizard. No, Watson is far, far worse. She

Oberlin is not unique or even an outlier. But hiring a risk manager seems a rather silly approach to controlling student and faculty mis-behaviors. Violating someone's rights to speech is criminal and punishment is called for. Again, none of this activity will end until that is hard and fast reality. If the feds were to withhold funding to schools which failed to protect free speech - this would end yesterday.

The last I heard, college was a place for education. If you don't like what you are being taught, go somewhere else. The only justice here is that universities that tolerate activism and rioting on campus are wasting a lot of money and cheating the students who are there simply to learn.

Oberlin was founded in 1833. Interesting history makes current events no surprise. For example: “Perfectionist radicalism and attendant causes, including the Graham vegetarian diet, female moral reform, temperance, missionary activity, and particularly antislavery activism, permeated early Oberlin. “ https://www.encyclopedia.com/social-sciences-and-law/education/colleges-us/oberlin-college

I dont care what college kids have to say about anything. They havent lived life. They havent supported a family or made a payroll. They've never had to make a house or car payment. They've never gone to a job they hate because they had obligations that were more important than their immediate happiness. They know nothing, and are only able to repeat what they are force fed at their communist schools. Student activists? Ptttttt.

Normally, a corporate risk manager oversees things like plant safety, helping train company drivers etc. They also determine what kind of insurance coverage is needed for property and liability factors. It would not surprise me if Oberlin is having trouble obtaining coverage for liable and slander and hired this person because of a request by their insurance company.

Republicans’ best option for unseating Sen. Joe Manchin: Pray that he retires first. The longtime West Virginia Democrat might be the most endangered member of his party heading into 2024. But Republicans still see the contest against him as treacherous. Manchin is a West Virginia institution who has repeatedly defied the odds in a deep-red state. A GOP group tied to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell launched a $2 million ad campaign bashing Manchin a year and a half before the election. National Republican leaders, who have no interest in leaving any room for error in their efforts to retake the Senate, have recruited popular Gov. Jim Justice

President Joe Biden’s most loyal voting bloc might not be quite as loyal when 2024 rolls around. Black voters, who were instrumental in helping Biden win the Democratic primaries during the 2020 campaign, have soured on the president after his over two years in office according to a recent survey. It appears his adventures with Corn Pop have finally caught up to him. A recent poll conducted by ABC News and the Washington Post has revealed a significant decline in support for Biden among black Americans. The survey indicated that only 52% of black respondents approved of Biden’s performance as president, a sharp decline from the 82 percent approval rating

President Biden launched his reelection campaign recently with an unconventional video that looked like it was produced by former “West Wing” producer Aaron Sorkin. The video shows an invigorated Biden shaking hands and embracing Americans from across the ethnic and racial spectrum. It also features plenty of his otherwise largely invisible vice president, Kamala Harris, who doesn’t speak during the video but sure appears to love working with the president. Despite the campaign relaunch, there hasn’t yet been much in the way of traditional campaigning. Much like 2020, Biden has preferred to lay low and away from the stump while mostly avoiding the press.

President Biden is all in for another four-year term as commander in chief. While Mr. Biden has his reasons for seeking a second term, Americans have their grounds for wanting him out. Mr. Biden launched his opening second-term campaign pitch by video last Tuesday with dark images of the U.S. Capitol riot of Jan. 6, 2021, which ushered in his divisive rule: “The question we are facing is whether in the years ahead we have more freedom or less freedom,” he intoned.

Broadly speaking, Americans are divided into three groups over charges that Joe Biden participated in his family’s corrupt influence-peddling schemes. First are those who, like me, are convinced the “big guy” secretly got his share of the foreign millions paid to his son and brothers over many years. Second, are those who are undecided because they haven’t heard of the charges or don’t know enough about them. The third group refuses to consider the charges because they are serious enough to send Biden packing and elect a Republican, possibly the dreaded Donald Trump. This third group comprises hardcore Democrats and the mainstream media, which are often indistinguishable.

It’s the biggest con ever perpetuated by the national media. For all of their hysterics over “disinformation” and “collusion,” we know now that they were indisputably the most guilty of both. Recent reports show how the Washington ruling class, including career intelligence officials, the media and Big Tech, plotted well in advance to suppress and discredit the fully authentic and legitimate Hunter Biden laptop story, solely for the purpose of influencing the 2020 election. The greatest offense was on behalf of the news media, the constitutionally protected institution charged with holding the powerful to account. In 2020, they abandoned that mission to do the complete opposite.

Two weeks ago, President Joe Biden announced that he is running for reelection in 2024, promising to “finish the job”. What exactly does he want to finish, other than American exceptionalism as we know it? America is rapidly imploding on many fronts – financial and economic, cultural, safety, and our place in the world. Does finishing the job mean erasing every achievement of former President Donald Trump? Or is he completing former President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign promise, "We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America"?
