Gun control Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) tweeted Sunday that AR-15 rifles are not necessary for hunting or self-defense and suggested mass shooters would be those “most affected” by an “assault weapons” ban.
He described the AR-15 as “the mass shooter’s best friend,” omitting any mention that the shooting at an Atlanta hospital earlier in the week was carried out with a handgun.
Murphy tweeted: [Tweet] The AR-15 is the most popular rifle platform in America, as variants of the rifle are used for long range shooting, competition, hunting (predator and big game), as well as self-defense, home defense, and plinking.
On February 17, 2018, Breitbart News pointed out that then-Sen.

There are all sorts of weapons that can produce mass casualties. The Armolite Rifle - AR- model 15 is just one such. But, it does not meet the previous federal definition of an assault weapon. There are many other semiautomatics, going back Colt Pistols, etc. Heck, even a bolt action can lay down rapid fire, according to the Warren Commission. As upsetting as these events are, they are rare compared to pistol murders. And it does seem that removing semiautomatics from the law abiding population will not stem their illegal use

In respect to the AR-15, Murphy said, “It’s the mass shooter’s best friend.”
I am very fed up with being lectured (talked down to) by elitist democrats who are protected by heavily armed guards.

I built my AR15 style rifle over 40 years ago. It has NEVER committed a single murder, let alone a mass murder. How will taking it away from me make the country safer?
Sorry, Senator Dumass, G-d gave me the right to keep and bear it, and can GFY.

Since every mass shooter is a registered Democrat or leftist loon, I propose a bill that prohibits Democrats from owning guns. Patently perfect solution!

Someone who wants to use a gun for evil will manage to find one. The law means nothing to criminals or wannabe murderers. This isn’t brain surgery, it’s common sense.

Impact on the 100Million or so lawful, legal AR owners? "Negligible"...

Spoken like a real city Boi.
When you live in a rural area, you have to worry about things like packs of wolves and wild hogs. I want as much fire power as possible. I might miss a few times, so I don't want to be limited to one shot- or even seven. Those Piney Woods Rooters are mean. (I'd like to see an "insurrectionist" turn a few loose in the congressional offices next time they rise up. But they better beware of "assault with a deadly weapon" charge.)

AR-15 is also the best way to take down an active shooter, as has been proven several times.

Then they'll use shotguns. In fact, my retired federal law enforcement friend told me that he was trained to shoot the guy with the shotgun first.

One of the most common rifles, the class known as Modern Sporting Rifles, or MSRs, where a nearly vanishing number of the many tens of millions owned are used in crimes. They can lie and say that they are "assault weapons" but they, as ALL rifles, are very, very rarely used in crimes.
FAR more ordinary handguns are used in crimes than ALL rifles, let alone the minority of them that they call "assault weapons". The use in crimes iso prbably 100 or 200 to 1, handguns over rifles. Perhaps higher.
And, these sorts of "bans" on commonly used guns will not pass Constitutional testing against the 2nd Amendment's clear "the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed".
Our Founding Fathers didn't write that language after returning from a deer hunt. They wrote that after winning a successful revolution against a tyrannical government. The 2nd Amendment is NOT about a right to go hunting or target shooting.

If you got rid of water no one would ever drown or die of shark bite. But since water covers 7/10 of the Earth's surface and liquid water is necessary for all life on Earth getting rid of water is neither practical nor desirable. Now how about guns? There are millions of guns in private hands and trillions of rounds of ammo. How do do gooders plan to get rid of guns? They might have some luck with the law abiding but for the nut cases does anyone think they would comply? I live in Georgia and a local heavily dim county had what they call a gun buy back. $ 100 for rifles and $ 75 for pistols. I don't have anything that cheap. I have coffee pots that are more expensive. So what's the answer? Don't have the exact figures but back in the 50s the population of America was around 100 million and total now is 330 million not counting the number added by Quid Pro Joe nonexistent border. But, back in the 50s around 500,000 Americans were in Loonie Bins. Today that figure is around 35,000. Yes let's get rid of Nuts with Guns. But let's do it by putting Nuts where they belong.

Mr Murphy hasn't seen the videos where the home boys turn their hand gun a certain way before they pump the bullets into the white or black guy?

Chris is so concerned he is going along with a New Haven policeman in an unmarked car so they can start confiscating illegal guns from gang members. He made the announcement to a stunned media by saying, 'I've done so much mouthing off about guns during my political career that I decided it was high time I actually took at least one illegal gun out of the hands of a criminal. Going into a high crime area to find one seemed like the logical approach. I know it won't endear me to my fellow gun ban crazies, but if I can prevent one gun related crime, it will be worth it.' Well, that's what he would say if he wasn't a lying freak.

If we ban every gun in this country every nut , mass shooter and gang member will have plenty of access to weapons across the southern border . . We cant even keep the illegals and drugs out , there will e a black market i guess it will be job security for the ATF the rest of us can just take our chances

This guy is such a dunce. Would love to ask him why government cannot seem to stem the black market that the gangs and criminals seem to get their guns from? Or how about closing the border to shut the cartels black market operations down? No, they have to go after decent law abiding citizens who want to protect themselves.

The small state senator would have more credibility if he was already on record insisting that Hunter Biden be prosecuted for his gun law violations. Next time Abbott and DeSantis ship some illegal aliens up north, maybe they can do a little profiling and send some MS13 recruits and put them off in Hartford. Let this anti-gun soy Boi get a taste of the border.

Don't waste your time trying to explain to these leftists about what an Armalite pattern rifle is or what possible uses it might have. I promise you, THEY DON'T CARE! They want We The People disarmed and helpless, period. A disarmed populace has been the common goal of tyrants throughout history.
Sure, the Armalite pattern rifle, and other similar platforms, can be used for, FTA, "long range shooting, competition, hunting (predator and big game), as well as self-defense, home defense, and plinking". All of that is irrelevant. What IS relevant is that such weapons are supremely suited to resisting tyranny; and that, my fellow patriots, is why the left is so adamant about taking them from We The People.
You see, TYRANNY is what the left is all about. It's what they do, it's what they live for, it's what drives them. In order to stop them, we must STOP them. COLD. Make ready. It is coming.

"Assault" weapon is a meaningless emotional term borrowed by modern gun control fanatics from Germany's 1943-1944 Sturmgewehr, which Hitler named "storm rifle." The StG was the first mass produced rifle with machine gun capability at the flip of a switch. The original AK-47 and the M-16 also have the same machine gun capability, necessary for a battlefield combat rifle. There is no infantry unit on earth that would be issued a common civilian version of the rifle, a semiautomatic AR-15 or AK-47. Their enemies, who have machine guns, would cut them to pieces. Because of the NFA, only a few Americans can legally own machine guns. Conveniently, anti-gun organizations and individuals conflate "semiautomatic" and "fully automatic." They look similar, but they're not the same.
The Democrats are now fully anti-2A. They must be defeated because they're not going to change. They want only the government and criminals to have guns. That way we can be controlled, and we can't defend ourselves.

Shotguns are FAR more effective assault weapons... so much so that they are banned from the battlefield by the Geneva Conventions. It was the good old American soldier who introduced them to the German soldiers in WW I as a means of eliminating them in the Trenches, and was even categorized a, "Trench Clearing Weapon." Just pray that these evil miscreants never discover the close quarters killing power of the shotgun.
