Hollywood star Richard Dreyfuss, an Academy Award–winning actor best known for his role in the Jaws, said in an interview that the new diversity rules imposed by the Oscars for films to be eligible for the “Best Picture” award “make me vomit.”
“They make me vomit,” Dreyfuss told Margaret Hoover on Firing Line which aired Friday night on PBS. “This is an art form. No one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is.”
New policies enacted by the Oscrars in 2024 will see film award eligibility dependent upon meeting two of four stipulated diversity

During an interview with MSNBC on Friday aired on Friday’s broadcast of “The 11th Hour,” President Joe Biden responded to the prospect of his son, Hunter, facing federal charges from the Department of Justice and how any potential charges brought by the DOJ will impact his presidency by stating that “my son’s done nothing wrong.” And that the situation surrounding Hunter “impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him.”
Host Stephanie Ruhle asked, “Sir, there is something personal that’s affecting you. Your son — while there [are] no ties to you — could be charged by your Department of Justice. How will that impact your presidency?”

At least eight of Georgia’s "fake electors" have been granted immunity in the Fulton County district attorney's investigation into former President Donald Trump and his allies regarding alleged interference in the 2020 election, according to a new court filing.
More than a dozen individuals signed a certificate falsely declaring that Trump had won Georgia in the 2020 election and declared themselves Georgia's “duly elected and qualified” electors. Georgia has 16 electors in the Electoral College. The eight unnamed individuals agreed to interviews with prosecutors, seven of which were completed between April 11 and April 14, according to the filing.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky announced Friday she is stepping down from her role.
The CDC said Walensky will leave the agency at the end of June.
"The end of the COVID-19 public health emergency marks a tremendous transition for our country, for public health, and in my tenure as CDC Director," Walensky wrote in her resignation letter to President Biden. "I took on this role, at your request, with the goal of leaving behind the dark days of the pandemic and moving CDC — and public health — forward into a much better and more trusted place." Covid-19 is no longer a global health emergency, the World Health Organization said on Friday.
WHO's International Health Regulations Emergency Committee discussed the pandemic on Thursday at its 15th meeting on Covid-19, and WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus concurred that the public health emergency of international concern, or PHEIC, declaration should end.
"For more than a year the pandemic has been on a downward trend," Tedros said at a news conference Friday. "This trend has allowed most countries to return to life as we knew it before Covid-19," Tedros said. "Yesterday, the emergency committee met for the 15th time and recommended

Former Obama-era CIA Director Mike Morell and current Secretary of State Antony Blinken were recently exposed as being behind the infamous “intel letter” that sought to dismiss Hunter Biden’s laptop as Russian disinformation. Now, a new report is providing unassailable evidence of exactly what the motive behind the gambit was. According to The Washington Examiner, Morell sent a recruitment email to gather signatories for the letter. Notably, in the email, he admitted that the entire purpose was to give Joe Biden a rebuttal to Donald Trump’s attacks during the presidential debates.

You learn a lot on Twitter about banking, and it’s fascinating. Simple stuff to start, like if Jim Cramer says “This is the GREATEST [fill in the blank]!!!” I now know to giggle and run the other way as fast as I can.
If I had any money, that is, so this is rhetorical, of course. Since I don’t, I’ve learned to sit back and watch whatever he’s loving explode shortly after he acts the fool about it.
I’ve also learned that the people in charge of our finances right now – with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell at the top of the power structure

The Federal Reserve on Wednesday approved its 10th interest rate increase in just a little over a year and dropped a tentative hint that the current tightening cycle is at an end.
In a unanimous decision widely expected by markets, the central bank’s Federal Open Market Committee raised its benchmark borrowing rate by 0.25 percentage point. The rate sets what banks charge each other for overnight lending but feeds through to many consumer debt products such as mortgages, auto loans and credit cards. The increase takes the fed funds rate to a target range of 5%-5.25%, the highest since August 2007.
Markets, though, are more focused on whether

Some interesting reports about the war in Ukraine today which paint an overall picture of Russia maybe being a little bit in trouble and worried about near-future outcomes. Let’s start with this Ukrainian attack on a Russian freight train.
An explosive device derailed a Russian freight train in a region bordering Ukraine for a second straight day Tuesday ahead of an expected counteroffensive by Kyiv…
The last four days have seen two trains derailed by explosions, a suspected drone hitting an oil depot in Crimea that caused a huge blaze and power lines blown up near Saint Petersburg.

If you are looking for a late-night show to watch instead of the tired, boring, and liberal ones that have dominated legacy networks, you’re in luck. This week the Writers Guild of America (WGA) members are on strike and the shows have gone dark. All of them except for on Fox News Channel, where the new kid on the block rules. Gutfeld! will be on the air with a new show. Jazz touched on the late-night shows going dark in an earlier post.
As it turns out, Greg Gutfeld writes his monologues and he and his team are not members of the WGA. Ah, yes, the joys
